Very bad haircut 3/10/2009

While my expectations are lower for the training academy, I at least was hoping for decent, if not "passable" haircut. My experience was not good, first it took 2.5 hours for a haircut (my hair is not that long) and the stylist did not listen to me, although I tried repeatedly to explain how I would like my hair. I ended up with uneven, stringy, layers, even my co-workers commented on how bad it looked. I called politely and asked if someone could fix it, I was told I had to speak with a manager, we played phone tag for several days, after a week, I finally gave up and had to pay again to get my hair fixed at another salon. In the end, while the prices are cheap, you get what you pay for a very bad haircut! more

Sorely Disappointed 3/15/2008

My husband gave me a spa package gift certificate for Gene Juarez about three months ago, and I finally got the opportunity to get my hair done this morning. When I started to explain what I wanted, this woman proceeded to tell me what a bad choice of color I already had, and that it would take 3-4 trips back to them to get the color where I wanted it. She actually pointed at a portion of my previous colored hair and said "This has got to go..." I have never been talked to so rudely when paying such a ridiculous amount of money. It was going to take about $500.00 to get my hair where I wanted it? I did not feel like a queen. I felt like trailer trash getting a hand out of her expertise. She continued to belittle me when I told her what I did want. At this point, another woman had already done the precut, and I just had to walk out. I cried for about 2 hours and sent my husband into hysterics, because he was so worried about me. This particular young lady sounded as if she was so much better than me, and made me feel very bad about myself. I just hope this never happens to anyone else. No matter what anyone says, God made you special and he loves you very much. No matter what some stuck up Gene Juarez hair stylist makes you feel. more

Snobs 5/15/2006

I have found Gene Juarez to be snobby, impatient, and generally hold a "customer is always wrong" attitude. I tried them twice and both times I was made to feel like they were doing me a huge favor by allowing me to potentiallly pay for their services. more

Best Hair Stylist for Thick Curly Hair 3/31/2006

Traci White, at the Redmond Gene Juarez Salon, has great ideas on how to wear my thick curly hair. She has been cutting it for the past five years and is fantastic. more

Best place for color. 3/25/2006

I've had highlights put in my hair at a number of different salons in the Seattle area. Looking back over years of pictures, the highlights I liked best were consistently from Gene Juarez. They're very pricey, but I feel the quality is worth it. As far as things like nails and massage go, I'd go elsewhere, but for highlights this is the place. more

Excellent Hair... 10/25/2005

I love Gene Juarez. They are always quick and nice. I was hesitant at first to make an appointment because I don't wear Gucci or Prada, but after walking in, I found that everyone was very welcoming and nice. I really enjoy how they treat you like a queen. The haircuts are very advanced and stylish and the stylists aren't rude or stuck up. The only downfall is that it can get a little pricy, so this salon is good for a nice once in a while treat. more

Luxury and Pampering is at its best! 10/15/2005

I don't mind paying extra to get my hair cut at Gene Juarez. They treat you so well here! Not to mention, my hair always looks great! From their drinks when you come in, to the robes, and the head massage, this is a great customer friendly spot. Their spa pedicures are great as well. And the atmosphere is top notch. more

Fair Spa 9/21/2005

My maid of honor and I went there for my pre-wedding pampering and I did not really enjoy it much at all. it wasn't a place that truly pampers their customers, it was more like churn and burn. It's fine for a typical manicure or pedicure, that type of thing, but not if you are looking to feel relaxed in a serene environment. more

It's a factory, but it's not bad 8/30/2005

I go to the Northgate Gene Juarez. It definitely feels like a factory, with lots of people being moved in and out very quickly. But I get a nice $35 haircut there and I can't complain about that. Plus, it's in the mall so I usually take some time out before or after to walk around. It's not bad. more

Great Haircut 8/19/2005

I used to think that hair stylists were pretty much all the same, or at least that it wasn't necessary to go to a high priced salon to get a quality cut. However, after trying Gene Juarez I have noticed a real difference. My hair is cut with great precision and my stylist, Rayna, has a great sense of how to make it look good and work when I go home to style it myself. I'm not fond of the pounding techno music or the haughty vibe that jolts through the chi chi salon, but when I remind myself that I'm just there to get a great haircut I can stomach it for a half hour. more

stay far away from this beauty aide 8/18/2005

Gene Juarez is the only salon that has stylists who will give you a certain hairstyle whether you want it or not. After my hair had been washed the stylist looked at my hair and said "I think you will look great with the Jennifer Aniston cut". I then told the stylist that I didn't like her haircut. The stylist looked at me and said that was what I was going to get. She then proceeded to cut my hair like Jennifer Aniston's. My mother had a similar negative experience here. She was poked hard in the neck with a pair of scissors. The stylist then denied this fact. My mother refused to pay. Gene Juarez, even after looking at the now bleeding cut told my mom the stylist was not responsible. My mother, finally received a written apology from them a few months later. There may well be others out there who like Gene Juarez and are happy with the level of service they provide. I will not let them within ten feet of my hair again. If you go, you should know that Gene Juarez also offers an array of other services. The average haircut costs around fifty dollars. more

Great Eyebrow Shaping - open early and late 8/17/2005

While I haven't been there for any other services, the eyebrow shaping is superb. The downtown location is convenient, clean, and lovely. A true urban retreat. My favorite thing about Gene Juarez however, is the hours. They're open both early in the morning and late in the evening. They open at 7:15am on Saturday and 8:30 on Sundays, which is great for us early morning weekend warriors. The prices are high, but you're paying for a real spa experience. more

For an overpriced haircut 8/15/2005

Try Gene Juarez. The salon employs an endless supply of stylists and can easily accommodate most schedules and offers a beautiful atmosphere. One can not help feeling like just a number in this salon that seems to encourage quantity over quality. Be prepared to pay $60 for a basic haircut, not to mention $10 for parking at a nearby lot. more

Lily has Fingers of Gold! 7/19/2005

Lily is a massage therapist at the downtown Seattle Gene Juarez spa, and I've got to say , she gave me the BEST massage I've ever had. I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for, but I have upper & lower back issues, and requested the "Ultimate Back & Neck Massage" when I booked the appointment. It was, more or less, a deep tissue massage on my neck & back that was, frankly, out of this world. Gene Juarez is an experience in and of itself, but Lily worked some serious magic on my back! Included in this massage were also some foot massage time, and Lily also spent some time on my arms. It was $100 plus tip (I left $15) for an hour for the whole she-bang. I've had quite a few massages, but this one was by far the best. Call her NOW!! more

i can't tell 6/30/2005

i think i have finally decided that gene juarez is too conservative for me. they have high quality cuts, btu if you want something funky, you might want to try a place like vain. they certainly make you feel luxerious while you are there, so that's a plus. it just depends what you're looking for. more

My Genie in a Bottle 4/28/2005

Gene Juarez will take away all your tensions. It's a little bit of heaven, a break from the absolute chaos of downtown Seattle. Just get past the millions of protestors and pettitioners, and you can spend an entire day with your head in the soft sand of this amazing salon. Everything they do is gold: from the make-up application to the day of beauty. Once you get inside, everything horrible you read in the newspaper that morning just melts away. The only thing that's left is a perfect pedicure and a warm-stone massage. Treat yourself! more

Go for the tea, stay for the robe 4/23/2005

The more I get my hair cut at Gene Juarez and the more I talk to others who do, the more I realize that it's a more luxerious twin of most hair salons. For those who like ambiance and want the spa feel, this is money well spent. You put on a robe and wait in a very upscale waiting area with all the cinnamon tea you can drink. You feel relaxed and surrounded by luxery. The hair cuts are like most places, hit or miss. Sometime's they're what you want, sometimes better, sometimes worse. So it depends on what you're looking for. If you want the get-away-from-it-all spa feel, go to G.J. If you just want a hair cut, you're money's probably as well spent at a cheaper place. more

I second that emotion 3/29/2005

I don't have broad experience with spas and massages, but Gene Juarez does the trick. I used to be very timid about the whole thing, not sure what to expect. The Gene Juarez folks helped me get over that, and fast. It's time well spent. more

The Seattle standby 3/28/2005

The downtown location is the "fanciest" yet not too overwhelming. My husband always goes here for massages, pedicures and manicures. Relax and Enjoy! more

  • In Short
The front desk and the urban, brighly lit salon have a fitting air of sophisticated chaos. However, there's a quick escape: the tranquil, feng shui-adapted waiting room. There, after changing into spa clothes and a luxurious robe, spa-goers are treated to an aromatic foot soak by the spa hostess. Services include the standards--facials, body-wraps, manicures, massages, mud masques--and more.
