Excellent food! 1/29/2011

I can't believe all the negative reviews about this place - my fiance and I absolutely love it! The food is delicious, especially the hummus, kebab, and house-made flat bread! The service is quick and every waiter and waitress we've encountered has been great, and the food is always spiced deliciously. It's a small restaurant, so call for a reservation or be prepared to wait a bit, and remember that it's BYOB! more

the worst restaurant ever! 11/28/2009

THIS IS THE WORST! restaurant I've ever been to after 15 years of dinning in metro NYC area. FOOD : I ordered a salad to go that included olives....& found NO OLIVES when I opened it up at home. ONLY OLIVE STEMS!! & very small portion, SOGGY vegetables!!! >__< It was so disgusting! SERVICE : The waitress ""Threw"" my bill at me & forgot to give me a receipt ... Also, even after a very very long wait .. she didn't even bother to hand me the food that came out from the kitchen while ago! she was busy doing her own thing. I CAN NOT believe that they think it's OK to be so RUDE !! NEVER GO HERE!!! Pros: atmosphere Cons: FOOD & SERVICE more

Decent experience 6/19/2009

I am surprised to read so many negative reviews. My husband and I were strolling for a place to eat and decided on Gazala - its menu had decent vegetarian options and a lot of variety. The waitress seated us and told us about the daily special. We had their special bread with cheese which was tasty and filling for two. We then had falafel (quite soft and fresh), one of their breads, and chicken kebab. Overall decent food with good portions, but I was not blown away by the food. In general I don't prefer Greek food, so did not find the food here delicious. The ambience was cozy, and waitresses friendly. An okay place. Pros: Cozy ambience, friendly staff more

Worst Service in New York City 11/7/2008

The manager at night delivered the worst restaurant experience that we have ever had! We called and told them when we were coming and then walked there in the rain...only to find that he decided to close the kitchen. He just sat there and ate in front of us and told us that it was our fault for wanting to eat late at night. more

Awful 4/19/2008

From the outside, Gazala's looked like it had the potential to be great. It's menu looked diverse and tasty and the prices exceptional. In the window, Gazala's was making her famed ""druse"" style pita, which I was excited to try. Although small, the restaurant was cozy and you felt as though you were eating in someone's own kitchen. Cons: tiny portions, bad service, total rip off, food more

What a disappointment 3/14/2008

This was one of the worst dinning expereinces I have had in all of new york city. Pros: nothing Cons: service, food, uncomfortable chairs more

Waited An Hour For My Food and It Never Came! 2/21/2008

Me and two friends who work in the area met here for lunch. We waited a few minutes for a table and then we were seated. The place was crowded, but not so crowded that we should have been ignored. We had to get our own menus and flag down the server to order. We had a very simple order of two sandwiches, a salad, lentil soup, and two appetizers (nothing complicated). After being there for an hour, we got the soup and one appetizer. We never got any of the fresh made bread and had to ask twice for water after sitting there for 30 minutes. Cons: Service is extremely slow more

My favorite NYC restaurant. 12/18/2007

I've lived here for 2 years. I eat at Gazala's Place probably once a week, and it's always delicious and fresh. Gazala has a dedication to the restaurant, the food and the service that is amazing. I'm eager to check out their brunch. Definitely get the mint/black tea and the osh-al Shurai (custard like dessert). I leave every meal content and at peace. Make sure you strike up a conversation with Gazala, she'll happily arm you with any information on the food. I've had salads, hummus and foule, gyros, a whole fish, a couple specials I couldn't pronounce if I tried to, and dessert, and I've enjoyed EVERY SINGLE THING I've eaten there. I have never been disappointed. Pros: Awesome food, great service, Gazala is always there with a smile. Cons: no winter door buffer, restroom stuffed way back (don't let these deter you, they're amazing!) more

Fresher than Fresh 12/1/2007

This place is amazing across the board. The food - everything is so fresh, especially the bread which is made from scratch in the front window. The waiter refreshes your basket every few minutes with a warm batch. I've sampled most things on the menu and have loved everything. There are a bunch of different kinds of hummus to choose from and they're all delicious. The staff - delightful. The prices - unbeatable. You can literally stuff yourself for $10. FYI-the menus you'll find online are not updated, the current menu has about 50 more items than the ones I've seen. Well done, Gazala. more
