I had both of my sons here with the Group Health Midwives (the same midwife caught both). I felt so supported by them, and they gave me LOTS of encouragement and support during my pregnancies and births.
I had a 10lb first baby in 8 hours, using the tub and then having an epidural right at the end. The nurses were spectacular - you can tell that they really like working there. They stayed with me and were great doulas for me. That took a lot of the pressure off of my then-husband and to this day, he is quite thankful for that.
I love to attend births here, as it is such a joy to work with care providers who really want what's best for mom and family, not just treating it like a "job" that they have to drag themselves to and get over with. They really enjoy birth here.
Although my last baby was a homebirth, my second baby was a planned homebirth who decided to come at 34 weeks and was a 3.5 hour labor. I went up to GHC Central and had a terrific birth (while being scared at his prematurity) with my midwives (homebirth as well as hospital midwife). Turns out that my hospital midwife's three babies were all caught by my homebirth midwife at home, so when they both saw each other at my birth, they were quite happy, which made me happy.
I'm so glad to have been a patient here and had such caring, excellent staff at both of my births. That means a world of difference to a new mother.
As for pediatricians, we went to Dr. Ute Ochs (now retired - bummer!) who was consistently rated one of the best peds in Seattle for many years. We also saw Dr. Krober, who is equally terrific. I miss those docs, since it's rare to find docs who take the time to listen to you and address your concerns without making you feel like a stupid new parent!
