Food and Service were great 3/13/2008

We took the whole family to Gator's on 3/2/2008. We were greeted by a friendly waitress at the front door and headed up to the rooftop patio. Our waiter was on top of it and had our drinks to us VERY quick (lethal weapon was real good!!) Food came out soon after - had the crawfish nachos - very tasty and unique. The reason why I wrote a review is because they took GREAT care of our kids - we have a 2 yearwold - 3 year old and a 7 year old. Everyone knows if the kids are happy - mom and dad can relax - and our waiter - and even the manager made sure of that! Will be back soon!!!!!!!!!! Pros: rootop - food - drinks more

Terrible service 3/4/2008

We sat upstairs on the outdoor patio. Two of the four ordered food, two were there for drinks. We were told that our food would be arriving soon, then 15 minutes later, we were told that again. The waitress brought the wrong order (french fries when I ordered salad) and she said that she had to take my plate away. I asked why...are you going to serve the fries to someone else ? I was flabbergasted when she said yes ! The waitress was rude, slow to serve, rolled her eyes, and couldn't give us information about the menu. When we asked what took so long to get our dinner, the waitress responded that they had gotten a rush on food downstairs. I suppose happy hour food takes precedent at this establishment. I asked to speak to the manager but he never came upstairs. When we finally got the bill, the waitress walked by us 3 times even though we clearly wanted to pay the bill. We walked downstairs and asked to speak to the manager. He made excuses for the poor service and clearly didn't care that we were unsatisfied with our experience. I absolutely would NOT return to Gator's. This totally explains why there are 5 other poor reviews about them on this site. Pros: Walking distance from most hotels in the area Cons: Loud, poor service and attitude by wait staff and manager more

Avoid this place like the plague 1/2/2008

This is the first review I've ever written, but service was so bad I felt I have to warn other people away from this place. (I would rate it with negative stars if I could.) We went to eat there before the hockey game, and knowing that West End restaurants could get crowded we intentionally arrived VERY early to leave plenty of time for dinner. The waitress was very slow taking our order and bringing drinks, and then we sat over 40 minutes waiting for food before the waitress told us it would be ANOTHER 40 minutes before we would get anything. She claimed the kitchen was backed up, but I don't know if it was that or just an incompetent server that forgot to put our order in. Either way, we knew we'd be in jeopardy of being late for the game, so our group opted to cancel our order and eat hot dogs at the arena instead. I normally don't look for free stuff, but she should've at least comped our drinks (which didn't happen). It was a COMPLETE waste of time to go to this place. In hindsight, we should've complained to the manager, but at the time everyone just wanted to get out of there. Pros: Nothing pro about this place Cons: Very poor service more

BEST FROZEN DRINKS ANYWHERE. FOOD IS SUPERB. FUN FUN FUN 12/27/2007

The is the GREATEST place. Atmosphere is so FUN!! The staff are friendly, and the food is AWESOME. A must visit when you are in the West End or Downtown Dallas. The red beans and rice are out of this world. And the DRINKS- oh my gosh!!!! The wall of frozen drinks is just what the doctor ordered. Worth a few trips to try them all. Highly recommended. Pros: Service food and atmosphere are perfect Cons: NOTHING more

Worst experience ever 11/12/2007

I should have know when the waitress said it would be slow service we were in for trouble. We ordered and none of the orders were right. My wife order a salad with her cheese steak and got cold fries. Her cheese steak was mostly onions. My daughter order a plain cheese burger and got it with everything. I order a crab cake sanwich and it came on two pieces of cold soggy toast, and all with cold fries and no catchup. We would have sent it back but there was no one around to send it back with. I spoke with the manager and he took about 30% off the bill but I cannot belive I paid anything for that meal. It was the worst experience I have ever had in my life. The outside tables were dirty. Just the worst ever. more

Fun place to be with friends!! 8/30/2007

I have been a Gator's fan since 1989! Gator's is one of the best hot spots in downtown Dallas! The atmosphere is relaxed and fun with great food and awesome drinks! The service there is top notch and it is easy to tell that the waiters/waitresses love what they do! They have definitely established themselves as THE place to be when visiting the Dallas area! more

Love the drinks . . . Love the food! 10/30/2006

The frozen drinks ROCK, and the chips and queso AND the coconut mahi are both to die for! We had a great time - loved the hilarious piano show! I can't wait to go back! Pros: food, drinks, service more

Great Food and Service 10/30/2006

This place has been in Dallas for alomost 20 years (I think) and there is a good reason for that. Alfonso the manager took great care of us. We will be back! more

No Service 4/18/2006

We sat down and waited for the band to start. We had to seat ourselves, then we watched a waitress walk back and forth 5 times and we had to flag her down when she was 1 foot away. It then took another 24 min to get the drinks. She then took another 20 min to bring food. We then realized that we had no silverware. I just got up and got my own. I really did enjoy the band, but the overall expieriance was horrible. It is time for a change with managers. NO customer service skills from the top down. Pros: good music Cons: wait staff , management, expensive cover more

Poor facilities and customer management 3/5/2006

Arrived at 5:55 left at 6:55 food was never served. I blame management. Excuses do not work. I came to eat before a Stars Game. I am a season ticket holder so I eat often in WE before games. First time at Gators. Waitress should have asked if it was first time and briefed us about the shuttle and any problems with the kitchen. I would think catering to Stars fans on game night could be a profit center. Spent all their staff catering to partiers upstairs that probably had no idea what time it was. Walked to AAC and was 10 min late for game. Starved. At junk food at game. Awful night. Stars won though. Pros: Location, Frozen drinks, Happy hour Cons: kitchen management, customer service more

The Best 11/28/2005

Gator's is my absolute favorite restaraunt in the West End. I believe that they have the best hamburgers in the state of Texas and I'd recommend this to anyone Pros: Not too expensive, great food Cons: no parking more

Horrible!!!!!!!! 7/17/2005

I called ahead of time and was told addmission was free till 9:00, we got there at 8:30 and they told us that they just changed the free addmission time to 8:30. We sat for an hour before they brought the drinks and we had to ask twice. The drinks were wrong and small. By the time we got our food it was cold. I told them to take it back and warm it up and also to give us a basket of warm fries, since they taste bad after reheating. They took it back and warmed it slightly. When the bills came they were wrong and he had charged us for the fries. I talked to the manager and told him we deserved a discount all they would do was take off the fries. The only good thing was the Piano Guy. Pros: Piano Bar Cons: Service, Food, Wait more

frozen mecca 3/10/2005

There's a good variety of frozen drinks here that should appease any tastes. The place itself has a college bar vibe, but the food makes up for it. more

Gator 6/13/2004

My friends and I had the most wonderful time there. Everyone was so friendly and the drinks where off the chain. This is a great place to chill so go have some fun!!!!!!!! Pros: inexpensive, fun, good drinks more
