Editorial review from Citysearch 12/20/2012

I dont know where to begin. This would be a novel if I included everything that has happened to cause me stress in my Apt. Building since only April 2012. And yet, I love the way my Apt. looks and how big it is and how I get to live on the Park! I am so close to everything I need, too. Though, sacrifices will continue to be made if I choose to renew my lease, due to the fact that this Management Company and This Apt. Building itself, and almost all the people that ""work"" here/there needs to be SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY. In fact, I am SHOCKED that that has not happened yet. Actually, no im not. B/c in New York, everyone is too busy to fight for something other than their selfish selves. ANYWAYS! I wish I knew what to do. more

We were a month behind in rent and paying the previous months rent. we got a letter in the mail saying that we would be evicted if we didn't pay the month of late rent. we promptly paid said rent, the very next day after receiving the letter. now, over a month later we have received a letter from the court saying we have to appear in court and pay the back rent. WHICH HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID! we have the check numbers/ copies of the checks and they have cleared from our account already. i can't understand why they have been such cuntwhores about this when we have been so nice about them not fixing anything that is wrong with this building. we have a front window that is ready to FALL OUT, the vent in our bathroom doesn't work, which has led to 2 of the doors/mirrors on our bathroom cabinet to fall off (from the rust), the drain on our bathtub is broken, we get rats from the GIANT HOLE IN OUR WALL in the kitchen, and we have water damage in our bedroom from the roof leaking! the ROOF, a major part of the building is in disarray and no one seems to care! also we have a cell tower putting off dangerous rf waves, which are above the level for humans to be around.. i called the FCC on these people.. my point is, DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. they are the worst kind of people. everyone in our building has had some sort of problem with them. we are going to leave this place, i hope the next person to see it reads this review and dodges a bullet. DO NOT RENT AT 71 COLUMBIA ST BK NY!!! Comment on Review Delete Review more

THE WORST 4/16/2009

These people are the absolute worst on earth. The building that I lived in would have been amazing had they not completely run it into the ground. I lived in my apartment for five years and never saw them even once. We had multiple problems (front door of the building broken, water issues, pipe leaks, broken kitchen sink, vermin, etc.) and called them over and over again with no response. Their lackey, Marc Goodman, is the most awful human being I have ever dealt with and he is unresponsive and unprofessional. To make matters worse, they lost my rent checks on multiple occasions and at one point actually brought eviction proceedings against me. This was despite the fact that I called them many times to ask why they had not yet cashed my rent checks. Please do not rent from these people. I plan to report them to the NYC Building Department, Housing Department, and Department of Health, as well as the Better/Business/Bureau, and I suggest everyone else do the same. Cons: everything more

Don't let yourself be victimized by these people 2/16/2009

How bad are they? An apartment in this building burned down. Apartments above and below it were damaged. Was this treated as an urgent matter by Mark Goodman and Galster? Nope! And naturally I have the same complaints that some others have posted including repairs and serious noise issues. I got tired of their shenanigans, BS, and complete negligence. I had to get an attorney and start fighting for my rights. It took a few months to find a good one that was affordable but I did. I wonder if there are enough of us for a class action law suit! My attorney, by the way, is Mark. K Lindenberg of Goldberg, Scudieri, Lindenberg & Block in midtown - (212) 921-1600. Pros: Puh-leaze! Cons: Did I tell you about the time they changed the locks on the front entrance without giving everybody the key? Imagine coming home to THAT late at night! more

Is Galster selling the Rent Stabelized Apartments? 1/31/2009

Well can anyone tell me if the converted buildings still have rent stablelized units for rent? Are they renting the stabelized units, or converting them to condo's as well? more

Criminals. Avoid this Management Company like the plague! 1/28/2009

They are a bunch of incompetent criminals. Every action with them is a fight. The building is in need of endless repairs, the apartment is in need of endless repairs, things hardly ever get fixed and if they do...the job is not properly done. They hire useless superintendants. They EVICT without proper notice. They misplace rent checks. They charge you for their mistakes. Everyone working at the company is an idiot. Pros: no pros Cons: everything more

Don't move in! 10/14/2008

I agree with everyone here. more

WORST LANDLORDS EVER (and I've had some doozies) 9/5/2008

I thought I was possible alone in my plights with this company, but reviews here and on Yahoo speak otherwise. In brief, they are miscreants and downright immoral. I won't give too many details for fear of retribution, but in short, don't expect any service and most importantly, watch out for this idiot Mark, a very small man, literally and metaphorically speaking, who will try to play tough. I can only assume he got his a*s kicked on a daily basis growing up and is venting his frustrations on us poor tenants. Know your rights and withhold rent if they are unresponsive. If basic amenities are not provided, you are entitled legally to do so under the ""constructive eviction"" doctrine. I HATE GALSTER, I HATE POMP AND MOST OF ALL, I HATE MARK.. Pros: I do have a roof, although there is a leak. Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE I'VE EXPERIENCED more

Worthless Management company 7/14/2008

These people are the most disrespectful slumlords I have ever come in contact with. I have had a maintenance issue in my apartment for 4 months now and they have done nothing to fix it. It is a leak in the ceiling of my bathroom and my bathroom ceiling is now covered in mold and brown spots and looks as though it is about to cave in. My bathroom is completely unusable and not fit for human living. The last time I called the person I spoke to said to me, ""Well you're moving out at the end of the month who cares if it gets fixed?"" I couldn't believe it. They have no human decency. Stay away from them. Cons: EVERYTHING more

avoid at all costs 4/23/2008

this is a huge, faceless, robot of a corporation that will only appear when they're after their money. if you have to complain about anything at all, good luck trying to get an answer... go straight to 311 and file a complaint with the city. they're slumlords further ruining NYC. more

Disgusting slumlords 3/15/2008

Do not rent an apartment managed by Galster Management Group, East Realty or Pomp, LLC. These people are disgusting slumlords who cheat hard-working New Yorkers out of their money. I've lived in a Galster building for two years, during which I've probably called my landlord around 150 times. He's yet to call me back. My ceiling is leaking, my toilet is broken, there's no heat in my bedroom and I only intermittently have hot water. I've filed numerous complaints with 311, but Marc Goodman, my landlord, has never followed up with me. Avoid Galster at all costs. Cons: Too many to list more

AVOID at all possible costs. 11/29/2007

This management company is notorious for being one of the worst in the city. They must have received a four star rating from insiders in the company, because if you look at any other review listings, they receiveonly one star on average. Cons: too many to mention more

RUN! RUN! RUN! from Galster and East Realty! 2/25/2007

Galster has a tendancy to be unresponsive in any way. They have their hatchet man intimidate board members of any coop or condo they have converted. The guy is named Mark. Mark will even contact your Superintendant and threaten to terminate him because the super is usually non-union. East Realty and Galster Management should be investigated by the Attorney General since they are protected by the system they helped create. Avoid any building that has Galster Management or East Realty as its management or representative. Mark Goodman represents them in the building and on Co-op boards. Cons: are not responsive more

Run far far away! 10/13/2006

Do not ever give this company your buisness. I have lived in one of their units for over two months now and not once have one of my phone calls been returned. They do not exterminate the building properly and my apartment now has vermin and pests. It is so bad I've had to hire an exterminator out of my own pocket. They didn't install any of appliances correctly, no smoke detector in my unit, and they still haven't fixed my buzzer ( I have missed deliveries because of this). Each time I've called, they have either transferred me to some unknown person's voicemail or they are just down right rude. Run far far away from this company becaue in exchange for overpriced rent you will get the most unprofessional and horrible service. Pros: They don't have any! more
