Awesome Brunch 9/2/2006

This is the best brunch in Santa Fe - maybe the best brunch in the southwest United States. Pasqual's is a small, cozy, local feeling place. The menu is extensive and the food is outstanding. Heuvos Rancheros - my breakfast standard - has never tasted so good. They can make it mild to spicy - if you've got courage - go spicy. The wait can be long (over an hour) so get your name in early and then wander around downtown Santa Fe. more

Best Food in Santa Fe 8/28/2006

Cafe Pasquals holds a special place in my heart, because that is where my husband and I had our first date. However, we continue to eat here several times a year and marvel at how it pleases EVERY TIME. The food is fresh, mostly organic- gourmet with a New Mexico slant. Although the dining room is small, and by some estimations, crowded, it is still romantic and unique. Definitely make reservations at least a couple nights ahead of time. more

  • The Scene
Lines form early at this cozy restaurant. Inside, hand-painted Mexican tiles, strings of chili peppers and bright murals framed by white lights add to the festive atmosphere. Locals sit side-by-side with tourists at a large community table in the heart of the restaurant. Others nestle into tiny, wooden tables near expansive windows. Friendly and efficient servers help maintain a laid-back vibe in the always-packed restaurant.

    The Food
While the cafe serves a splendid lunch and dinner, it's the morning meal that warrants intimidating lines. Hearty breakfasts are brushed with regional and Latin American flavor, and a half order is usually plenty. Breakfast quesadillas consist of scrambled eggs, Jack cheese, guacamole and apple-smoked bacon or chorizo stuffed in crisp whole-wheat tortillas. Papas fritas suffer from potato overkill, but huevos motulenos, with eggs, corn tortillas, black beans, sautéed bananas, feta, peas, roasted jalapeno salsa and chili is anything but bland.
