Amazing Night 2/2/2011

I took a first date to this spot last night and it couldn't have been better. The waiters were amazing and they couldn't have been nicer. The food was great and the drinks were perfect. I think our second date might be there also. more

Wonderful food, great atmosphere 12/7/2010

Once again, the UWS trumps the UES in food options - Gabriela's is a wonderful, neighborhoody Mexican restaurant with wonderful drinks and a surprisingly fantastic brunch menu. They are accomodating of families and large groups but not an obviously ""kid-friendly"" (read: sticky, annoying) venue and it is a perfect spot for hanging out with kid-free folks when your toddler is in tow! more

I like.... 9/29/2010

I used to be afraid to try Mexican food before I tried Gabriela's, lol. This place was awesome and delicious! Great tipsy crowd here, and they have a bar on wheels that follows you around! more

Real good Mexican! 9/14/2010

Great place to kick back, have a few beers. The service wasn't that quick, but we were really in no rush. It's nice here in the summer cause you can sit outside, but unfortunately it's getting a lil colder now. Great tacos and quesedillas. Margaritas are a bit too sweet for me, but i liked the mojitos and they got a variety of different beerss more

Ridiculously good drinks, great finger foods 8/3/2010

Didn't really go crazy with trying their entrees, but the drinks we had from that bar that they move around from one place to another were really something else. The drinks come in HUGE cups and are very strong. Two margaritas will probably do a number on you. The tacos and all the little appetizer dishes we got were perfect for the occasion, not too filling and enough to keep you satisfied. more

Great quesedillas, huge drinks 7/14/2010

This place is AWESOME! Food was great, fun atmosphere, very cool people. It's really exciting here on a crowded night! Great drinks too! Pros: Lots of Fun! more

Most fun i've had a in while 6/29/2010

Last time I was here I had a BLAST! We started off with tequilas and margarita's...and we finished off with tequlia's and margaritas. We ordered a bunch of appetizers--tacos and guac--and that was some great finger food! The guac was fresh full of flavor, the tacos were good, and one of our friends got the enchillada dish which we all kind of stole from him, lol. We were here on a weekend, so it was kind of a party atmosphere. Great for meeting people, eating a light meal, and just kicking back with a group of friends. There's music here, they have TV's by the bar with all World Cup playing and it can kind of become a madhouse at times. Really a fun place! Pros: Strong, good drinks, extensive far, delicious appetizers Cons: Service slow when its crowded more

Best Mexican i've tried in Manhattan 6/16/2010

Food: delicious Mexican. Enchilladas are spectacular. The chicken is legendary and probably the best thing there. Pros: Trendy, organic products, amazing bar, cool outdoor area Cons: Crowded more

Excellent for delivery 6/7/2010

We ordered a couple of dishes for delivery and the food was there within 20 minutes , and we?re about 10 blocks from the restaurant. It was still nice and hot, and definitely the best Mexican food in the area. Honestly though, there are like a million Asian fusion places within a 5 block radius competing with each other with, and oftentimes, with the same exact food. Gabriela?s spices things up a bit and gives you some authentically Mexican tacos, enchiladas, and great black bean soup. I haven?t actually been inside yet, but need to definitely do that at some point soon? Pros: Really delicious food and quick service, great tacos Cons: You can't order margarita's to your door,... more

Live Insect in my Salad! 8/27/2009

I found a LIVE insect in my salad. It was by far the most disgusting thing I have ever witnessed. Cons: Terrible Service and found a Live insect in my Salad more

Great Drinks, Ok Food, Poor Service! 6/20/2009

I visited the restaurant last week for a friend's birthday party and enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was good, I had the Chicken Chimichangas, but my friend had the swiss enchiladas and did not like them. They had a nice children's menu with REAL FOOD, not chicken nuggets and french fries, which is a plus. However, the service was poor! The waitress took our order and the food came fairly quickly but then we never saw her again! If you were thirsty, GOOD LUCK! We had to get up to find the waiter 3 times because we wanted more drinks. When we asked for the check the waiter NEVER CAME BACK, my friend had to physically get up, look for the waiter and get the check. Which gave her attitude, as if she did something wrong. They did charge us real quick though, go figure! I understand the mixed reviews, I guess it depends on what day you go, I went on a Wednesday, the restaurant was not full AT ALL, and the service was still very poor, and the servers were NOT friendly. Go for the food, drink, but please DO NOT expect quick or friendly service. Pros: Great cocktails Cons: Atrocious service more

You could live on the apps alone! 5/7/2009

This is a favorite restaurant of mine, one that my friends and I often end up staying in for hours until closing. Last night did not disappoint. You can live just off of the appetizers and the drinks alone! The Honey glazed chipotle ribs are divine, the crust for the chicken empanadas are excellent, the quesadillas, the shrimp rellenas are just great. You just can't go wrong getting the enchiladas or even the paella (full of chicken, pork, chorizo, mussels and clams) for a main course. The flavors will not disappoint and you will not leave hungry or broke. The atmosphere is wonderful for a modern Mexican feel. A must in the city! Pros: Everything Cons: Can't think of any more

Not California, but pretty good... 1/18/2009

I had the chicken enchaldas and sangria. The rice was just ok... needs more flavor/season. Chips and Salsa was good. Sangria good, fruit tooo fresh, they did not soak it enough. It was good though. I would go back. I'm from Southern California, and it was very close to home... Pros: Food, Good Date spot, clean and good service Cons: Rice could be a bit more authentic.., price more

Large Yumminess! 5/2/2008

From beginning to end this place was good! Went there with my partner ,she ordered the fish tacos, I ordered the cheese enchiladas, as appetizer we ordered the mushroom and cheese plate (forgot what it was called). The fish tacos were wonderful!!! Cheese enchilada were delicious especially if you are ALL about the queso! They are not shy with the portions. It was busy the night we went but the host (she was great!) still was composed and didn't mind that we didn't want to sit next to the door but remembered us even after she was running a list (super sweet). Our server was busy but tried his hardest and another server helped him out by taking our order, this hardly happens in the city. I have no complaints. We even had dessert. This place is closer to what I call MexiCali cuisine, but hey, some of us like that! Pros: food, nice people, good service more

Keeps getting better!!! 11/29/2007

I was skeptical when they reopened and was less than impressed on my first visits however I have gone there three times in past few months and each time seems better. The service is friendly and attentive, the food is fantastic (I love the chicken and my wife loves the Gabriela's salad), and the margaritas are incredible. In the summer the outdoor cafe is one of the very best on the UWS. Im so glad that indpendent family owned neighborhood restaurant can still make it on the UWS. It seems they have passed the opening blues and are reaching thier stride. They have made a believer out of me!! Im going there again this weekend! Pros: Awesome outdoor cafe, incredible chicken, large strong margaritas, Friendly service Cons: Crowded on weekends. more

A New Favorite 6/19/2007

We stumbled upon this place after wandering down Columbus for a few blocks and were so happy we did. The outdoor area is perfect for sitting outside (it's covered so you bake in the sun). The margaritas were good and strong. The enchiladas suizas was fantastic! Going back again this week and next! Pros: Food, drinks, outdoor area Cons: n/a more

Great margaritas... but that's it. 2/23/2007

I like Gabriela's, especially in the summer when you can sip on your margarita outside on their patio but they are REALLY not known for great quality food. It's all so-so to me. The black bean soup was delish but my lobster quesadillas felt like they were dipped in grease. Our waiter forgot about us several times and we had to keep begging them to refill our glasses. When our waiter didn't write down our order and sure enough he had to come back to make sure he had got it right... which he didn't! Pros: Delicious flavored margaritas Cons: They do not return phone calls! more

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Manhattan 2/16/2007

I've lived in this neighborhood for several years and, like most of the locals, I was distraught when Gabriela's closed and delighted when it re-opened. One of the other reviewers complained about the new Gabriela's. It is more expensive than before, but the proces are still reasonable. The food is still very good and the service is fine. There were some service snafus when the restaurant opened, but things seems to be pretty smooth now. I am a fan of the frozen margaritas and the shrimp quesadilla. The best thing I can say about this restaurant is that it is one of the only UWS restaurants for which my friends from other areas of the city will make the trip. That's no small praise. Also my friends from Mexico and the Southwest say that it is pretty authentic Mexican food compared to other Manahttan Mexican restaurants. I like it and I recommend it. Pros: Good food, nice ambiance, family friendly Cons: long wait for dinner, family friendly (lots of kids during early dinner hour) more

Loved the old one 11/28/2006

We used to live by the old one and when we moved into the 100s we were so happy that we'd be near the new one. It's totally different. They kept us waiting 40 minutes after our reservation and brought the entrees 2 minutes after the appetizers. The portions are smaller and the prices are higher. The food still tastes good but I'm sorry to say, I'm going to Mary Ann's or Mama Mexico from now on. Pros: food tastes good Cons: poor service and high prices more
