LOVE IT! 2/11/2007

I'm Taiwanese and this is definitely the place to go for some authentic Taiwanese/Chinese food. The sushi is OK, but it's good for the price. They have spider rolls for $6 which is pretty cheap. Their dishes are averaged price but it is served on small plates meaning smaller portions. The quality and taste of the food makes up for it though. I go to school in Arlington and I'm thrilled that they've opened one up there too! more

Good Japanese in Chinatown 3/28/2006

This Japanese restaurant is actually run by Taiwanese proprietors, but it's not bad at all. It is, at least, cheaper relative to other Japanese restaurants. The bento boxes are a good deal and very tasty. They have a large selection of sushi to choose from, and it's about the same quality as that at a standard Japanese-run Japanese restaurant. They also have a Taiwanese section of the menu; if you're in the area, though, I'd recommend going to one of the other numerous Taiwanese restaurants if that's what you're craving. It's a spacious restaurant with nice decorations and a bar, as well as a TV usually set to Chinese cable. There tends to be a more diverse crowd of people here compared to the other restaurants in the area, which attract Asian customers more exclusively. Recommended if you're craving Japanese and in the area anyway. more

Nice Little Japanese/Chinese Place 1/13/2006

This restaurant is a nice little Japanese and Chinese restaurant in the Asia-town area of Richardson. They have a mixed menu of both Japanese, Sushi, and Chinese food (and possibly other types). I have been here for all three types of food. For sushi, I would say it's just okay. The fish is not the freshest I've had, and the rolls are just the normal ones you see everywhere (not much innovation). But the sushi chef is nice, and there appear to be some regulars that go in there often. They also have dollar sushi days, but the sushi on those days is like 1/2 the size of a regular sushi! The cooked Japanese food and Chinese food is good. I think that's really what I would suggest to order at this restaurant. They have all kinds of dishes and if you need help deciding, the waitresses usually help. The atmosphere at the restaurant is also nice. They have a large tree in the restaurant with lights on it, a sushi bar, and a private room for parties. The owner walks around and greets people she knows or asks newbies how they like the food, and she is often very friendly and will help you decide on a dish. As far as the crowd, I usually see Asian people there which is a good sign and means they probably also serve some traditional dishes. Also I've heard that some college students come in for the drink and sake specials. Overall, I'd recommend this place if you're in the area. more

Restaurant review 8/5/2005

Genroku is a pretty special Japanese restaurant. The reason why I said this is because they have quite a few of very inexpensive dishes. Some of them under $5.00 with very decent potion. This is almost unheard of in Japanese Restaurant. My kids like this restaurant. We are not a big spender so we are very happy to find one like this. Of course, you can order their top of the line and the price can go high too. Their dish is heavily seasoned with soy sauce so be prepared to drink lots of water. more
