Great Cut 2/18/2011

Normally I don't spend a lot on a hair cut. Yet a friend of mine suggested I try Gary Manual Salon. The staff was friendly and professional. The hair cut was the best I've had in years. No more Supercuts for me. Highly recommend. more

mediocre haircuts 12/5/2006

In the trendy world I guess Gary Manuel Salon is "up there." I'm not particularly trendy... I'm cheap but I do care about my looks. So I thought that the training salon would be a good alternative. meh. It's ok. I've gone there twice and probably won't go back. It's too expensive for a so-so haircut and the stylists are not exactly friendly ... kinda on the snobby side (the girl who did my hair thought it was funny that I'm so low maintenance and only want to blow-dry my hair in the morning) more

Gary Manuel: Hip, helpful, and unpretentious 11/6/2006

I have a hard time with hairdressers. Between cut and color, and a somewhat limited budget, it's nearly impossible for me to find a stylist that really makes me happy with consistent results. I was referred to Alex at Gary Manuel by a friend (with great hair!) and have been going dutifully for 6 months. So far... Fabulous results! I love the atmosphere- it's hip and cutting-edge without being stuffy. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful, and most importantly I've been thrilled with the results. more

Alas, The Worst Haircut in Years at Too High a Price 10/29/2006

I paid $35 for the worst haircut I have had in years. The stylist paid no attention to what I wanted, had no knowledge of how to cut fine hair, appeared rushed--and really didn't know her stuff. She was also completely unsupervised, so this was like going to a school with no instructor as backup. My husband laughed when he saw my hair and he's a kind soul--that's how inappropriate the style was. I have had tons of better cuts at SuperCuts or from friends. If you read my other reviews, I rarely bash a place--but I really felt cheated. Having read the other reviews here, I MAY try it again if I can get ever my courage up. But, I had to pay a whole $10 to go to the Greenwood Academy to fix the cut so I could go out in public. more

Champagne haircut at a beer price 9/23/2006

I've been shopping for a new hair place. I tried Phase 3 last week and I will definitely be back. Though this is a "training ground" for cosmetologists who want to work next door at the SUPER pricey Gary Manuel Aveda Salon, it is staffed by licesened professionals in their first year of Gary Manuel's program. So these are NOT students - they do have their licenses; the difference is they are just starting out and thus can't command the high prices that they do next door. I had my hair cut by Charles, who was great. He really listened to what I wanted to do, and then he did it - flawlessly. He explained how to use each of the products he used in my hair and he gave me an awesome scalp massage. Ahhh! They use Aveda prodects, of course - and nothing smells better than Aveda! The only thing to note is to allow enough time - the cuts do take a little longer than you might expect, but the salon and the experience are so pleasant that it really didn't matter to me. more

Over priced and overly snooty - not worth the money 9/12/2006

I went there once because it was so highly rated. What can I say: they ran 40 mins. late for my appointment (no apologies were made), the stylist was trying to do me and another woman at the same time - it took forever, the cut was nothing special, the atmosphere was intense (too precious, too stuck up, too focused on the beautiful people driving beautiful cars) and the price was ridculous - $270 for a cut and highlights and a 'glaze'. The cut was really not great, but it wasn't a disaster either. It just wasn't very much of anything (except, of course, expensive). And they pressured me to buy gel and other products (you know, showing them to you while you are in the chair with the apron on asking you which one you wanted...). The parking was difficult to find and expensive (not the salon's fault, of course). Plus, you have to fight traffic to get there. Skip it. Pros: none really - just trendy but not really great Cons: expensive and nothing special Overall user rating: Not Recommended more

The best haircut and color around 6/29/2006

I have been going to see Psyche at Gary Manuel Salon for about 5 years and absolutely love it every time. It is on the spendy side but worth it because I've been to other places that are cheaper but I never like my hair as much. Psyche gives the best head massages during the wash that always make me feel so great. I just recently recommended her to a friend with very different hair than mine (no color, short hair) and she had a fabulous experience and will go back again. more

Consistent! 3/17/2006

I've been going to Phase III/Gary Manuel for 7 years. I've seen many stylists in the Phase III area and have been happy with all of them. Their training program is so rigorous, even the newbies have been doing hair for a while. After about 2 years, they move from Phase III to Gary Manuel and start charging more for their service, which is when I usually move to a new person in Phase III. They can do fun or funky or chic. The service is always top-notch and very consistent. more

Top Quality All-Around 9/11/2005

I've only used one stylist, Lisa Powers, but she is top-notch. I've been going there for almost ten years and the one time I wasn't happy with my haircut, she changed it right away. I had my hair done there for my wedding by a woman who specializes in "up-do's" and she was the best I've ever used. The service is great. If they are running late they call you and if they can squeeze you in, they will. All of the help are friendly. It's a great all-around experience! more

can't beat the price 8/30/2005

today I got a basic cut at the training salon. the stylist was very friendly and did a great job, but took too long - for a 1/2" trim on already short hair, it took more than 2 hours... but the then again the price was FANTASTIC - $12!!! so how could I could complain. more

Great haircut, but pricey 8/20/2005

Gary Manuel has a great professional staff. It is one of those places you can go to and tell them you don't know what you want done and they will amaze you with the end result. It’s also a fun salon in regards to chatting with the stylists. The only thing holding me back from coming here regularly is that it is very expensive. more

Gary Manuel Salon 8/18/2005

Gary Manuel's the place I go when I really want to treat myself. I always leave feeling like I've been on a mini-vacation! I usually see Kathryn Remijan. She's a real wizard with my unruly, thick hair. When I lived closer to Seattle, I was able to get in to see Kathryn more regularly. From Everett, it has become an occasional splurge. more

Expensive look without dropping the benjamins 8/16/2005

Phase 3 is a training facility for the Gary Manuel salon. It may be "trainees" but everyone there is quite skilled. They use high quality products such as Aveda and Bed Head. The decor is nothing to write home about but with cuts that starting at $30 - its a great value for the money so go get a cut and then walk down the street and enjoy the Pike Place Market. more

Great Style, Cheap Price - Phase 3 Training Salon 6/15/2005

Phase 3 is the training salon at Gary Manuel downtown. I was amazed at how great the pricing was to get my hair blown out straight. A regular salon usually charges at least $35 to have this done - but Phase 3 charges $14! You can't beat that and they always do a great job. I have never had a cut or color in phase 3 - but I have also heard it is great. You can also request a trainee that is almost done with training. It is so affordable, great service and good hair. Check it out! more

Great Hair! Hip Experience! 5/27/2005

This is a fun, trendy place to treat yourself to an excellent hair style. The staff is always friendly and the service is first class. My stylist is names Alex and I been going there for three years. Basically ... when my hair grows it becomes more of an overgrown weed than that long sexy look. I tried many different salons and stylists over the years and was never really satisfied. The cuts were always good, but once they started growing out ... well the "Bride of Frankenstein" comes to mind. Alex was recommended to me (she was named one of the top five stylists in 2002 Seattle Magazine) and she has always given me an excellent cut that looks good not only once it is cut, but also weeks later. The salon is a little on the expensive side, but for an excellent style that stays with you, I find it is worth it. more

Ok price! Ok haircut! 7/16/2004

If you want to go to this place go to Stephen. He will listen to you and give you the haircut that you want. If Seven wasn't in town i would go here. more
