ok but not the best italian food. we use to go here for dinner until we found villa capry and felt in live with this place then we discover the owners are brothers. sorry to say...

love this place 12/1/2010

had been in meetings all morning, was hungry, and realized that I was passing by Frenchie's. Thought that I would be wicked and treat myself with some quiche but it was all gone. So then, I thought I should go the healthier route & found rigatoni with brocolli. Ooooh! Pres. Bush, Sr. beware! This had so much of the green stuff and it was wonderful. It and the rigatoni was cooked just right. I kept trying to figure out the sauce. It was so good. There was enough for my lunch that day & the next. I can't wait to be that way again so I can feel righteous & decadent at the same time more

Ode to Frankie and his Wonderful Capallini Marinara!! 2/16/2010

As I approach Frankie at the register to pay for my to go order of his wonderful Capallini Marinara, I get soooo excited! I can not wait to devour this hearty, rich, garlicy creation that is so popular. When I get my order, I open the container and sprinkle tons and tons of roasted garlic on it then seal it up. I grab a few pieces of bread and butter to go as well. Then I drive back to my office while constantly looking at my order and guarding it with my LIFE to make sure it doesn't fall off of the passenger seat! I get to my desk, open the container that has the most wonderful meal that I've ever eaten in my life!!! CAPALLINI MARINARA!!!! Angel Hair pasta with hearty homemade marinara sauce, peas, black olives, tomatoes, fire roasted peppers, and roasted garlic. Alot of you complain that you have to wait in line for your meal, but come on, it is DEFINETLY worth waiting for. If you have never eaten at Frenchies or ordered a to go meal, you are definetly missing out. Plus Frankie is hilarious! He always cracks up jokes to keep everyone laughing and in positive spirits. He definetly has a gift. Long Live Frenchies!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Awesome Food more

Great Italian Food - Quaint, neat, friendly atmosphere... 11/24/2007

The service was exceptional, the food was hot and excellent, the Escargot was perfect and the wine (Sonoma-Cutrer) was heavenly and the price was reasonable, especially for the quality! The wait staff treat you as if you are part of their family - I have not had this plesant of a meal experience in a very long time!\r \r We will return - SOON!\r \r Len and Deneen Ward more

Okay Food! Bad Service!!! 9/20/2007

I do enjoy home style Italian food. However, the food here at one time use to be great! Now, it's just so-so but some of their simple dishes still know how to pack on the pounds. The wait staff is all family members. Some long time friends have joined in on the action but nonetheless, they're pathetic. Nice guys, but you can tell their hearts aren't into it. I don't care what anyone says about the food, but if I get bad service, taste becomes a secondary thing. To the owners, if you read this, two words: Kitchen Nightmares!!! They'll whip your restaurant into shape and may even straighten out your waitstaff. Ciao! Pros: okay food Cons: poor service more

Most Authentic Italian Kitchen! 8/8/2007

Don't let the name and simple location fool you! This is by far one of the Greater Houston Area's most authentic Italian kitchen! Amazing pasta (al dente of course) an increadible sauces. Don't miss a chance to meet Mr. Giuseppe, one of the owners, who is a very charming and will make you feel like you are in Italy! They also have a more formal restaurant nearby called Villa Capri, which is also just as delicious and is perfect on a romantic nicht out! Buon Appetito!!! Pros: Ambience is casual and cozy Cons: Not the prettiest strip mall but the incredible food more than makes up for it! more

User review by sunflower5 1/21/2006

The service is TERRIBLE. We were seated and ignored. It took twenty minutes to order. We didn't have one waiter, we just got whoever saw that we didn't have our drinks in 10 minutes and whoever else passing by. We overheard other people from other tables with the same problem. We had to pay $3 for breadsticks that was a tiny small basket. Our food came out after a long while and was put on the table by the waitress and walked away without saying anything. The bustboy came when we were almost done to bring parmesean. My chicken was very dry and the sauce was bland. The salad had Italian dressing just poured in the middle and nothing was mixed. The parmesean was the only service we got during our meal. $16 for bland chicken, no presentation, bad service and hostess wasn't even properly dressed. Never going back. Pros: seated promptly, good bread Cons: terrible service, expensive, food wasn't that good more

20+years and never disappointed! 7/15/2005

For over 20 years I have dined with the Cameras on a regualar basis. And during this time time I have learned that my favorite meal is anything that ends in a vowel! My recommendation is to not limit yourself to what you see on the menu. Ask the waiter for specials and anything that Mario, the genius in the kitchen, may come up with. Frenchie's is full of wonderful surprises! I always assumed that Italian food was spaghetti with meatballs. Little did I know. The seafood dishes are better than anything Kemah has to offer. Now for the best part, desert. The Chocolate Almondine cake is something very special. Enjoy the evening and get to know the family, they are wonderful and caring. We will always return to our little piece Italy in Clear Lake Pros: consistency of food, special requests, portions! more

Great Little Hole in the Wall 6/9/2005

What can you say about this little hole in the wall but OUTSTANDING. The Eggplant Parmesian was OUTSTANDING, the Lasagna was OUTSTANDING. The Desserts were BEYOND OUTSTANDING. more

Better Italian food than anywhere in Houston... 5/20/2005

Frenchie's is one of a kind. Not only will the owners and staff remember your name, the food is truly OUTSTANDING, with generous portions. I don't think it is overpriced at all, especially compared to those ""italian"" chain restaurants on every highway feeder road. The eggplant parmesean is the best I've ever had. Anywhere. Pros: Food, Frankie! Cons: Can get crowded more

Nice but overpriced 7/13/2004

Very nice Italian dishes, great atmosphere (everybody knows everybody! Family restaurant), lots of astronauts picts on the walls. The dishes, except the pasta ones are overpriuced, especially the specials. Wine list limited. Lunch buffet food not great. One should go to that restaurant after visiting NASA because it is a staple of Houston. Go for diner, not for lunch. Pros: good food, unique ambiance, good atmosphere Cons: , overpriced more

Real Italian 5/30/2004

Having lived in Italy for three years and visited often during the last 4 years, I believe I am qualified to judge good Italian restaurants. I have been frequenting Frenchie's since it first opened and have found the food and the service to be excellent. This is one of the few places in the Houston area where I feel like I am back in Italy. The food is authentic and always well-prepared. As for service, they make you feel like you are part of there family. The key word is consistency. I have never had a bad meal. You can't go wrong by dining at Frenchie's. Pros: Outstanding Menu, Consistency, Service more

The best in town! 11/9/2002

You wouldn't know it from the outside, but this restaurant has the best food in town. more

Worth the wait and the weight! 10/14/2002

Absolutely the finest Italian food I have ever eaten! The food is a heavenly experience. I highly recommend the grilled trio of scallops, veal and shrimp in white wine lemon caper sauce, lightly breaded. I don't believe I have ever had anything so wonderful. Great wine list as well. Yeah, you may have to wait a little while on a table, but I can promise you an event that will change your life! Prepare to make an evening of it. You won't be sorry. Pros: Wonderful food, friendly service more

Great Food - Sometimes Awful Service 9/13/2002

Seeing all the glowing ratings I'm having difficulty finding the words. They're good but not that good. It's a New York City style Italian ambiance plain, small and crowded. The food is excellent, but the service runs from average to god-awful. Lunch is order-at-the-counter-and-pickup. It's regular sit-down table service at night. They have one longtime waiter who you'll regret you ever met. We've stopped going very often at night for fear we'll get him he'll ruin your whole week. ;-) Pros: excellent food Cons: service, crowded more

FRANKIE!!!! 8/18/2002

In the last 20 years there has never been another restaurant quite like Frenchie's. The people, the color, the languages, the food have always been top notch and the ones that know, know you have to be a part of this from the moment you walk in the door. I could stand up front and watch and listen while waiting for my food. Frankie will do you right!! Pros: Great food, Friendly, Lots of fun & kisses more

My family's Favorite for 20 years 8/17/2002

This is a wonderful place to go. Frankie Camera always greets you in his Italian manner. I crave his fettichine, it is addictive. Frenchies is just down the street from Nasa and has many famous people drop by. There are pictures of them and folks like me all over the entryway. Don't let another day go by without stopping by Frenchies. Marge Houser more

Resturant is overrated 7/6/2002

I do not care to go back to this resturant. WE have had trouble with the service, help and food every time we go. Last night, I said I refuse to return to Frenchie's. The food was cold & I told the uncaring waitress & all she said was I am so sorry. She did nothing. We ask for different things & never got them. Believe me, if they don't start getting better help on the floor & in the kitchen, I see them going under like so many other resturants. They need to improve food. I think they have gotten to sure of themselves. We will never return & I will pass along the info. to my friends to not go. Pros: tasty food, one good waiter, inexpensive Cons: cold food, limited parking, too dark inside more
