I will never under stand why people have animals if they are not going to care for them properly. my grandson and I went to see the "farm zoo" at Freddy Hill yesterday and it was totally disgusting. The animals are living on cement slabs with no grass and no enrichment. They are obviously depressed and neglected. They have no trees to offer shade, only "igloos" that have junk in them. The male white tale deer just stared into space maybe 5 feet from the fence. not the way to treat other living creatures. In this case the quote, "Be the change you want to see in the world", comes to mind and I'm going to do whatever I can even if it's only to make as many people possible aware of what I saw. These animals have been haunting me since the visit and I believe that there need to be changes made. If possible I would have given them a "0"... more

DISGUSTED!! 5/31/2011

My family and I went to Freddy Hill Farms yesterday evening for some ice cream, and to look at the animals. The ice cream was marginal, at best, but the animal "petting zoo" was nothing short of deplorable. They have large animals, like elk, named after Santa's reindeer penned up in tiny enclosures. ALL of the animals except for the goats and the pigs are housed on concrete slabs. There are no trees for natural shade, or even grass for them to eat. Yesterday (Memorial Day) the thermometer read 94 degrees, and the one elk was unable to get his antlers through the doorway of his water shed to get a drink. My son & I left in tears. These animals may not be "mistreated" by PA laws, but they are definately neglected. Freddy Hill Farms should be ashamed! If you look at their website they have wonderful pictures of everything to do there...numerous pics of the mini golf, driving range, dairy store, corn maze...they have only one pic of the animals, and they are the pigs (in the nicest enclosure). Now I know why. Disgusted!!!! more

Poor treatment of animals 5/23/2009

My friend and I sometimes use the driving range at Freddy Hill. Today, we decided to check out what used to be the petting zoo. It was so sad to see that the animals are in pens with concrete floors, no shade, no grass, no trees, and laying in their own feces. Some of the animals had mates, but many were alone in their pens. What is the point of keeping deer on a concrete slab? We see plenty of deer in the wild, as they should be. I feel that people should speak up and let Freddy Hill know that they shouldn't be keeping animals under such poor conditions. I know that we won't be going back as long as they have the captive animals. more

Freddy Hill Farms is a great place for a family visit. The kids could go see the various animals they have on the farm. You can also visit their milking parlor at a certain time each day to watch them milk the cows. They also have a store that sells farm fresh ice cream. I personally love their lemon meringue pie ice cream in their fresh waffle cones! They also sell milk and make ice cream cakes. Freddy's is also a great place to visit in October during their Fallfest! more
