Great Studio!!! 1/5/2012

I've been a student at this studio for several years. The Staff is very knowledgeable, friendly and honest. The move to the new location was the best thing that could have happened. The new studio is beautiful and classy and these people really know what they're doing. They try to help everyone become better dancers and I've learned so much and can't wait for every lesson! more

Not Responsive to Clients 11/28/2011

My elderly mother signed up with this studio and paid well in advance for lessons. When she became too ill to participate any longer, I contacted Bryan Chandler and advised him of the situation. He concurred that there is a medical clause in the contract that allows for cancellation. He was very congenial and expressed his good wishes for my mother's care and comfort. He promised to get back to me in a few days "after he got things sorted out" and reconcile any monies due her. It has been over three weeks and he has never contacted me and does not return any phone calls. This is most disappointing as my mother was a faithful client for many years. I do not believe that this is how a professional organization is run. Buyer beware. more

Good, Metropolitan is better, WAAAY better.... 10/15/2010

Cons: After seeing the dancers and Instruction at Metropolitan and how much I've learned over the past year there, I'm upset with how much money I wasted at this studio... Cons: SALES, WAY more EXPENSIVE, poor instruction, generally feel lied to, felt like a number cons: creepy manager, unfriendly owner Pro: Friendly staff, fun, good for parties, nice floor, more

Addressing concerns of customers. 2/2/2010

As part of the management team at Fred Astaire Charlotte, these reviews were brought to my attention and I felt I needed to address these issues in a concise and understanding fashion. Derek and Andy, thank you so much for your positive comments! For those who have negative opinions, I truly apologize for anything we did not do to help you achieve your dance goals and appreciate you voicing your opinions so that we can make ourselves better. As any long-term dancer will tell you, it takes a lot of time, effort and desire to become a really good dancer. Our studio tries to assist new students to discover where they wish dancing to take them in their lives, relationships and life experiences. I have been an instructor for more than 17 years and I know I still have a lot to learn about dancing! It is an ongoing process that never stops. That's why I love it so much! Unfortunately, many people in today's society put too much pressure on themselves to achieve the quickest results with the least effort invested. I want it now! Drive-through mentality at its' best. Dancing is easy and fun when you take the time to learn it well. Just like ANYTHING else in life. The more time you put into it, the better you are. We try to please every one of our students and let them meet their goals. Unfortunately, sometimes we fail. For those we did fail, I truly apologize. However, congratulations to those Thousands of students who have walked in , then danced out of our studio over our 50 years in Charlotte! Thank you all for your input, both positive and negative, allowing us to get better and fail less often. Pros: People matter Cons: You cannot always please everyone, but we try. more

Great Experience!!! 1/21/2010

I am getting ready for my daughter's wedding. I was reluctant, to say the least, to dance in front of a crowd of people - I haven't done that since my wedding!! (20 years ago!!) My wife loves it and I enjoyed i more than I thought I would - heck, I'm feeling crazy enough to sign up for some more after the wedding. Pros: friendly, fun, i really like my instructor Cons: Far from home, more

honest, it's sales institute than a dance one!? 10/15/2009

I have spent a whole lot of time in diff dance studios in the city...n here is my experience- they are good, they know dance skills for sure and are most aware of technicalities of diff dances from fox trot to tango to club salsa to swing to any dance probably....BUT!!!!! the problem is their primary target is to sell you expensive packages and teach you a v few number of steps, spread it across 20s of diff dances so that after completing one package, you end up knowing one step/dance type and at the end, buying a new package.....and you buy a new package and again ends up the same...n this never stops!!! I wanted to focus on few dances and wanted to dance only one type of dances but get really well versed in it. They will keep you expanding on multiple things you want or you don't, but they will never tailor private lessons to your needs......their only motive is to keep you involved and make you keep buying new packages one after another...Beware of your expectations, if you go here!!!! Pros: skilled staff Cons: focus is on sales more than dance more

Honest review from a former instructor 12/26/2008

Hi, I normally check up on things in my life that were of some important meaning and as a former instructor in 2002, I had to read these comments. Now, I have to respond. I was pretty appalled by "Smooth Girl'"s approach to commenting. i read different reviews on different things and most of the time can't see why they receive negative reviews. Sometimes I wonder if there is any merit at all to any of those reviews. I read and read again and realized that Smooth Girl, by the way she shortened her comment with brash and vile words could only had been at fault. There was no intellect on her behalf in her comment at all. I have always seen that studio ran with professionalism and dignity. I know things can change in any short time and especially in the time I have been gone but even if instructors were to have personal problems with each other, it has always stayed behind the door or left before you walk in. Mr. Thompson has always kept a clean floor and I could never see anything wrong coming from the instructors side. I believe her comment was delivered out of anger, spite, and revenge. I believe her attempt is lousy and should be flagged to the other studios that offer dance instruction--------------Derek Morrison Pros: The atmosphere, the energy Cons: No cons more

in response to smoothgirl 8/25/2008

Hey smoothgirl, As a student at this school I know what really happened in your situation and it had nothing to do with the instructors or the school itself. The fact that you were mad at your instructor because he shot you down when you made inappropriate suggestions to him is the reason you dropped out of showcase. Therefore, I feel it is very wrong that you want to hurt a great school with your comments because you did not get your way. Your instructor was very professional and handled himself in the correct manner. Too bad you did not . Pros: Great, fun instructors and hugh dance floor. Customer service is excellent. more

Worst lessons in town!!! 2/5/2008

Poor dance instruction, terrible customer service, weak management. I was verbally abused, and had to withdraw from a Showcase. Staff was rude and uneducated. I do not recommend this dance studio. more
