Old Fashioned Fun 8/9/2005

If you haven't picked up a bowling ball in a while, grab a few friends and head over to this bowling alley for a few games. What a fun way to spend a hot and humid afternoon or evening, and you will have alot of laughs and even get some exercise. You can rent shoes there, just bring some lysol to spray into these shoes first and don't forget to wear socks! You pay by the person and game, and it's really more reasonable that going to a movie. Check out the snack bar and your trip back into time is complete. Don't forget to bring your camera to preserve the memories more

Not your parents bowling alley! 7/31/2005

So much fun! This has got to be one of the cheapest bowling alleys in Manhattan. Once a month on a Friday or Saturday night they hold a "party night". On this night you pay one price admission, usually about $50 and bowl all night till 4am. This includes shoe rental and a great buffet. The dj spins all night while you bowl! more

  • In Short
Sure, like any typical bowling alley, Leisure Time has balls and pins--but that's where the similarities end. An $11 mango-tini glows, all class and flavor, under the suspended glass orbs that light the bar. Patrons tend to be of the corporate ilk, here for a team-building outing or happy hour; the rest are mostly tourists waiting to catch a bus. Group photos are snapped next to beer towers, with a backdrop of neon light-reflecting Grecian columns and low, purple sofas. A high-tech system keeps score and gives bowlers aiming guides alongside primetime TV. The lounge is dressed up as a nightclub--bouncer, DJ and all--but it's not fooling anyone. Bowling, believe it or not, is the main attraction.

Hits: Maybe nachos are on the menu, but so is an Asian salad that easily feeds two, with grilled chicken, oranges, crisp wontons and an overall freshness rarely seen at a bowling alley.

Misses: In spite of Leisure Time Bowl's efforts, no one is calling Port Authority the next big thing in nightlife. The inconvenient spot is best-suited for killing time before a bus trip or as an alternative to midtown karaoke.
