Love it 1/3/2011

Before i get to the best things of this place id like to say something first, just because we have rodents, ants, flies, and its dirty doesnt mean its not not a good place. If you dont like rodents, ants, flies, and dirt then why are you even at a barn?, ya i dont like rodents, ants, flies, and mud/dirt but if id love my horse enough id ignore it because BARNS/stables are supposed to have them. :D Now time for the good part! Ive ridden and had my horse here for several years and me and my horse love it here you can ride western or english here. The trainers teach jumping and dressage (and a tips on some western topics) and they will answer any of your questions. A lot of people here are family to me.It may not be in the best of shape and sometimes go through rough ones but you can have so much fun here especially during the summer when they hold a riding camp and your child will learn so much you can see their improvement during that one week they are there. They have goats, chickens(sometimes chicks),dogs(sometimes puppies),horses(Of corse!),and now they have to Miniature horses named Sassy and Hot Shot. This place is awesome you should come check it out!! more

Very nice stable 6/9/2009

Foxfire is a 40 stall boarding/lesson/training facility. It has 2 grooming stalls, 2 wash racks, a covered arena, an outside arena, grass pastures, a round pen, individual paddocks, and a restroom. The fencing is wood board. Pros: Excellent care, affordable rates, knowledgeable trainers Cons: They don't have a proper website more

Love Love Love 6/2/2009

I just recently moved my horse here from another very nice barn in town. The friendly atmosphere, caring women, and efficient use of facilities make this a very nice place to come to at the end of a hard day. It just made me laugh at the rodent/ants comments YOU ARE AT A BARN, and they are doing their absolute best while never once compromising the care. They are great teachers and friends and wonderful owners. I trust them without question with the care of my horse. Pros: amazing care and attention to detail Cons: without frills (pro?) more

you want your kids to take lessons here 4/21/2009

If you want to learn to ride this is the place for you or your children! The instructors know their horsemanship, and best of all care about your child. It''s not just about geting on the horse but they are commited to teaching you every aspect of riding and take the time to get to know your child. This place has no frills but is BIG on teaching and nurturing future riders, leasers and owners of horses. I have to pry my kids away and they beg for more lessons! My kids know these women care about them (and the horses in thier care) and that's because they take the time to listen and teach them. ALL the horses are well cared for and the owners are on site 24/7. It is so close to the West side, inner loop, Galleria area you don't want to miss out. Ignore the negative reviews, this is a SPECIAL place. Like a good book, don't pay attention to the cover, but step in and enjoy the ride! Pros: caring ,knowledgeable instructors, good horse care Cons: okay it;s not fancy more

Great Stables and Trainer 4/21/2009

We have boarded our horse there for a year and she was had wonderful care. When we bought her she was underweight and one of the owners guided us as to what we needed to do in order to bring up her weight. My daughter has taken lessons there for 2 years and loves her trainer and the barn. She never wants to go home. The trainer has extensive knowledge, is trustworthy and is a warm caring person. She guided us in the purchase of our mare and she has been a big help. She has taught my daugher and helped her train her horse and they now compete successfully. The trainer has been there for us through colic, lameness, nerves and growth. It has been an incredible experience. Pros: personal attention, excellent care, wonderful trainer more

Caring owners, amiable boarders 4/9/2009

I boarded on and off at Foxfire for about 15 years, most recently 4 horses for 5-6 years. Like most long established businesses, they have had their share of financial setbacks, maintenence issues and operating challenges. They try to overcome issues as soon as possible and you won't find more caring individuals for the equines in their charge. Pros: Caring owners, friendly boarders Cons: busy, encroaching neighborhood more

Top Quality Care 3/31/2009

Foxfire Farms is a great stables. I have kept my horse there for years, and the staff is not only extremely helpful and friendly, but very knowledgeable. My horse has always been happy and well-fed and obviously adores the barn owners and staff, whereas that has not been my experience at other barns. Also, the owners always check on the horses (they live on the property) at night, and notice things, like whether your horse isn't drinking as much water as usual. That happened to me. I got a phone call from the barn owner just to tell me she thought my horse might need some extra electrolytes because he didn't seem to be drinking quite as much as he normally did! Who knows, maybe she saved my horse from colic, or even worse! They call to remind me when shots and farrier care is due, or if there are any changes in my horse's behavior or health. Also, it's the only barn I know of that feeds the horses three times a day, instead of the usual one or two times a day. You can't put a price tag on that kind of attention and care. Even so, the prices at Foxfire are really reasonable, especially considering their close-in location. Personally, I don't know why anyone in the Houston area would board their horses anywhere else. Pros: Amazing care, personaltaff attention, friendly more

First Rate Barn 3/27/2009

All barns have rodents, flies and pigeons. FoxFire has something many other barns don't: 24/7 on-call care by owners with a deep love of horses and equally deep experience and knowledge. The owners/trainers know the horses, boarders and riders as if they were family members. Running a barn is one of the toughest businesses in the world. The relaxed happy horses filling this barn tell you they are doing it right. more

great stables enjoyed my entire exprience 3/25/2009

I love this place!!! Clearly this person in the above comments had a disagreement with one of the staff and has gone through great lengths of bashing foxfires name. I've boarded my horse here for years and I've never had a problem, yeah maybe they have some rodents in their barn but that's expected in a place so old and big. Despite what the other comments say I would recommend visiting foxfire if you love animals and want to have a good time. the staff would be more than happy too help you with any question that you may have just give them a call. Pros: Get to ride and see horses, goats, and chickens. Cons: There really aren't any cons I love this place! more

The first reviewer was correct 2/22/2009

They have a terrible rodent/pigeon/fly problem. Anyone stating otherwise is flat out lying. The rodents actually tunnel through the stall dividers. My horse lost a great deal of weight at Foxfire and received sub-optimal care. Water troughs are left unfilled, horses are constantly getting loose (sometimes because the BO doesn't repair fences in a timely matter and sometimes because the 'help' leaves gates wide open) and medical issues are misdiagnosed. One horse choked (classic symptoms: expelling food through its nostrils, stretching the neck, and coughing) and they claimed that it had a respiratory illness. They're just clueless in spite of their many years running the barn. I've never met a single person that boarded there with anything nice to say about the husbandry or the staff. It's the slum barn of Houston, which is a shame considering its proximity to downtown. Pros: Proximity to downtown Cons: Poor husbandry, no maintenance performed on buildings, lack of knowledge of staff more

Personable staff and good quality facilities at Fox Fire Farms 11/25/2008

Fox Fire Farms is the stables I have boarded my horse at for years and I've taken lessons there for just as long. The people who run the place are practically family to me. The facilities include four separate turn out pastures as well as a covered arena, outdoor arena and roundpen (with plenty of new grass and trees, as well as a small pond), a 45-stall barn, with NO VERMIN OR ANTS(as perviously mentioned), three time a day feeding of whatever the owner desires, as well as a staff of caring women to help with anything you may need. The owner is generous and flexible on payment schedules and the trainers/instructors are kind and concerned women who want nothing more than the safety and improvement of your horse/rider. The only true requirement for boarding a horse there or taking lessons is that you leave the drama outside of the barn. They do not tolerate any sort of inappropriate behavior. more

Terrible Stables 11/6/2008

This is a terrible stables. I would not board my horse there or let my children take riding lessons. The people that own this business present themselves as experienced but they will tell you anything they think you want to hear to make a buck. The stables is unkempt , dirty and disgusting. The vermin, and insects including fire ants are not controlled. They do nothing to prevent mosquitos and very little to control flies. There fences are rickety and their pastures are nothing but mud holes. Cons: Everything more
