Not closed, Good food, would eat here again, but has a few quirks 4/15/2007

I here on a rainy Sunday evening, and found the overall experience to be very good. We had a calamari salad appatizer that was a nice size portion, fresh and not chewy calamari, but a little on the spicy side. We had to wait for a while, considering we were one of two tables eating dinner at 8:30, but otherwise service was very attentive. Dinner was also worth the wait. I had a hanger steak sandwich, which was cooked just right, topped with swiss cheese, bacon, fried shoe-sting onions and BBQ sauce. Desert menu was limited, and they only serve beer and wine. They also only accept cash, which was a surprise when we paid the bill. Luckily we didn't have to run out in the downpour, but I felt there should have been some kind of sign to let us know. Pros: Excellent food, good value Cons: A little slow on food delivery, no credit cards, no full bar more

Out Of Business??? 12/26/2006

I live in the area and frequently pass this place, wondering whats going on. I get a beer at the bar occassionally and being in the business myself, talk with the chefs. I stopped by today to say hi and a french guy told me that all the kitchen staff quit. Pros: Location for me Cons: Snooty Service more

What a find! 11/27/2006

i can't say enough good things about this place! A friend had been there a few times and suggested it when I was looking for a place to host a ""birthday"" dinner. I checked it out - and the atmosphere was great - subtle lighting, exposed brick, great bar and room to move among tables. Better yet - the menu - with just enough items to make a decision - offered something for everyone at incredibly reasonable prices! Highly recommended by those attended are the Steak frites, the Fish Tacos and the Scallops. The service was considerate, personable, and attentive. I'm excited about having such a great place in the UES neighborhood - and finally - a place to eat that won't risk the rent check! Looking forward to going back! Pros: great food - great prices! Cons: may be a little north for some.... more

A very good restaurant 10/30/2006

We really enjoyed our dinner here. My girlfriend had the fish tacos and I had the oyster tacos. They were both excellent. Their desserts are TASTY. The atmosphere is very cool...good service all around very nice dining experience. We will be back! more

Pleasant Neighborhood Restaurant 10/5/2006

Enjoyable atmosphere and very good seafood. If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy good seafood on the upper east side without having to wait, then this is the place. Very good wine selection without breaking the bank. more

Hugely disappointing 9/8/2006

After reading the good review in New York magazine, a friend and I ventured up for Saturday brunch - mistake. This ""seafood"" restaurant does not even serve seafood at lunch; and the specials listed on the wall; not available until after 5pm. The service added in the disaster with a waiter who couldn't have cared less. At the end of lunch (the only time the waiter came back) we were asked how everything had been and said it was okay to which he scoffed as if we were kidding. We were kidding actually - it had been completely nondiscript. There was absolutely nothing special about this place and I'm sorry to say there are MANY better places further south that there is no point in making a return visit. Cons: location, service, limited menu more

Welcome addition to the neighborhood 8/28/2006

The restaurants on the upper UES are almost uniformly unexceptional, so it is great to have a solid performer like ""food"" open and doing well. It is a well put-together place, with friendly service and a good vibe. The dishes are simple and tasty, and although I'd like to see a bit more variation, the quality of the ingredients seems high. more

worth a visit 8/27/2006

its nice to have a new restaurant like Food in the area. The restaurant's relaxed vibe, good wine list and selection of food make it a great find in an area where there are not alot of options. Worth a visit. more

nice addition to the area 8/22/2006

Now that this place has been open a while the menu and service are right up there with some of the best in the area. I go there regularly for brunch to avoid UES crowds and they always have great fresh fish and affordable prices. Nice vibe, good food and change of scenery. Pros: menu, wine list, no waits more

Simple food at its best! 7/30/2006

If you live close to lex & 100, do NOT miss this spot!! My boyfriend and I went there without any expectation....such a good surprise! We had some calamaris & chowder to start with, perfectly cooked! The burger is to die for and i had the best fish & chips in years!! low prices and a very good service made our evening @ this new friendly location!! Pros: food, service, price Cons: wine and beer only more

Relaxed Urban Oasis for Fish + Classics 7/23/2006

This new restaurant in Spanish Harlem is a welcome addition to the neighborhood, offering an understated, handsome environment with friendly service and American classics. A solid, informed wine list compliments the list of fish entrees. While some of the dishes are overly salty, many of the classic dishes are right on. The desserts are scrumptious. A good place to head for a quiet, friendly honest plate of classics. Pros: Handsome atmosphere, new to the area, friendly service Cons: Some dishes too salty more

Really REALLY Disappointing 6/30/2006

I live above 96th and the restaurant selection is pretty sparse, a few expensive places scattered around and then fast food. So I was hoping Food would be a good in-between option for my limited going out budget. I was horribly mistaken. Although the price is right, the food is not. I got the ribs special ($17) (perhaps a mistake at a fish kinda place, but I usually assume specials are a safe bet), they were so salty as to be almost inedible. My girlfriend got the signature fish tacos ($11), bland, dry, greasy and boring all at once. Pros: PBR & Oysters Cons: Terrible Food, Slow service more

Worst restaurant & take out on the UES!!!!! 6/15/2006

We had the misfortune of ordering from food last night. We are 3 blocks away from the restaurant and the delivery took 45 minutes!!! Pros: can't think of any Cons: too many to name more
