Fun, chill place to hang right by movie theatre! 5/23/2010

I had a great time at Flounder's this weekend. My friends and I were seeing a movie at the theatre across the street and stopped in for a few drinks and some grub. The burger I had was amazing, so juicy! I had a few beers... a delicious craft beer! Reasonable price and a nice change from the normal. I'd recommend it for a a night before a movie... maybe I'll go here before Sex and The City 2 Friday!!! Pros: Convenient location Cons: None more

Great food, beer pong and a sea of blue and white :) 9/27/2008

I went to Flounders for the PSU v. ILL game last night. Great service, an awesome happy valley atmosphere and even (gasp) cowbell! Second best to actually being in State College for a game. I will gladly be going back. Maybe I couldn't make it to PSU for a game, but at least PSU came to me :) 5 STARS FLOUNDERS! more

Great for watching Penn State football! 8/8/2006

Flounders is the game watching home of the Penn State Chicago Area Alumni association, so you're sure to have friends in blue and white on Saturdays in the fall. The bar staff is friendly and fast, pitchers are cheap, and the nachos are great. I will be planted firmly on my barstool starting September 2.... Pros: Friendly bartenders, NACHOS, cheap beer Cons: Limited seating on game days more

So, the awning could use a little updating, cuz i never really noiticed Flounders before, but i am sad to say that i was missing out on a great little(well, not so little) spot in the neighborhood. The crowd is diverse, the barstaff is friendly and makes a good drink. The food was some of the best bar food i have had, especially the buffalo chicken and the garlic fries. I brought some buddies back last week to catch some march madness on the awesome plasmas they have here, and luckily we came early and snagged some seats, cuz this place was packed with young sports fans cheering on their teams. I have heard too that there will be a beer garden this summer, so we will definitely be back! Pros: new Beer Garden, good attitude/crowd, great TVs Cons: come early for sports, games more

flounders service was great, i should know because i frequent bars a lot. the fries were good, i am a heavy eater and man, and enjoyed the portions! and i didn't even get into a fight!! probably the coldest guiness in town.i was amazed by the coldness. if i had a day to live and were to be executed in the morning because of the death penalty i would tell the wardon "allow me to go to flounders, because i want to have one last garlic fry before i fry in bismall abyss that is called hell! " celebrties also must like this place.i saw celebrity al roker jr and i think the weather girl from channel 7 Pros: guiness, celebritiy citings, staff warmthety Cons: no hot tub, yet, no bar masseuse, no whammies more

Don't bother! 6/26/2005

We went in there on a Sunday afternoon to grab a drink before seeing a movie. We were ignored by the staff for several minutes before placing an order. We said we were catching a movie and asked if the fries we were ordering would be done quickly, and they said we'd get them right away. When they didn't arrive, we asked about them and were told that the kitchen had never started them. We got our money back and left, and we won't be returning. Cons: Negligent service more

Good people, good sports 5/13/2002

The crowd here is always nice and the drinks are always well made. I like how it's close to Webster Place, so you can go here after a movie or something. more

Owner Message
  • Flounders Bar and Grill is located in a historic building built just after the Chicago fire in 1872. In fact, many believe the space to have a friendly spirit or two! We feature craft beers from local breweries around the country and world. Stop in for lunch to try our new menu offering seasonal soups and salads, sandwiches, and house-made 1/2 pound burgers. We also offer pub fare such as our award winning chicken wings and bacon crusted Cheddar and smoked Gouda macaroni and cheese. Try our crispy pork belly sandwich with fried egg, arugula, and horseradish aioli. Our convenient location on the corner of Webster and Clybourn, directly across from the Webster place movie theater, makes us the perfect place to stop in before or after a movie.

Editorial
  • The Scene
The brick-walled Flounders is best experienced as a cozy spot to hole-up during football season. A couple of well-placed banners make it clear where allegiances lie--with the perennial gridiron powerhouses known as the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Arizona Wildcats. Off-season, radio rock of the 1980s variety (think Loverboy and Night Ranger) pumps from the sound system. A pool table and a Golden Tee machine provide halftime entertainment.

    The Draw
Multiple TV screens satisfy post-collegiate and professional crowds interested in catching their favorite games. Huskers and Wildcats fans are more than welcome, obviously, but the hungrier the better. The kitchen's wide menu features good takes on buffalo chicken sandwiches, salads, brats, even brunch (11am-3pm on weekends) complete with bloody marys, giving patrons little reason to relocate the cheering section to another establishment between or after games.
