Hated it!!! 8/18/2010

Worst dining experience I have encountered in San Francisco. The wait staff is terrible. Especially the overweight bald waiter. He made the total experience a disaster. more

Great Neighborhood Spot / Great Food! 9/30/2009

If there's a spot, I like to eat at the bar. Dining room is somewhat small and cramped. Don't know much about wait staff in dining room. Pros: Top notch food. Nice bar. Cons: Dining room is small and cramped. more

Great Steak Frits & Neighborhood bistro! Server? ..not so good 12/22/2008

A great neighborhood bistro with charm! The host was very pleasant, as was the food (the salad was amazing and the steak frits were better than I have had in a while). The duck was just average. Now, our waiter on the other hand (mid forties, bald, glasses) was very unfriendly, did not tell us the specials and seemed almost put off we were there (note: we overheard him giving the specials to others next to us?). The poor service almost makes me not want to return to such an otherwise charming little place... Pros: Great steak frits and wonderful euro-bistro ambiance Cons: the server we had was extremely unfriendly more

Unfriendly waiter 10/10/2008

Very impersonal service from one of the waiters. I don't remember his name but he was chubby, mid-forties, bald and with spectacles on. He did not offer the specials of the day although he ""only"" did to the table next to us because they were ""regulars"", he did not come back at any time to ask if everything was ok with the meal and after we paid the bill, there was never a thank you, have a good night nor a F*** You!!! more

Great Night on Fillmore 2/25/2007

After having a great experience at Treat (accross the street), they recommended we try Florio for dinner. We got in for a 7:45 dinner and really had great time. We enjoyed good conversation with regulars at the bar while we waited for our table. We had the steak and frites for two and is was fabulous. I am glad we ventured to Fillmore on Saturday. We had such a great experience all around. Pros: Great steaks and fries, good atmostphere, really friendly bartender more

Yeah, I agree about the bland food here 9/13/2006

Good fries and okay physical plant. Nothing special here. Why go here? Well, the service is less indifferent than it is at Chez Nous, a couple doors down. more

food is BLAND! i don't get it! 9/11/2006

we were happy to finally get to try florio and it was nothing but disappointing for us. everything looked so great when it showed up but most of the food was so lame we didn't finish any dish! (a better restaurant would notice all the food getting thrown away uneaten and either the chef or the waitstaff would at least ask what the deal was) the service was aloof and indifferent. Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: indifferent waitstaff, food is awful more

It can go either way here 2/9/2006

I live in the neighborhood and stop in regularly. Sometimes it's amazing, and I think, why go anywhere else? And other times nothing about the place clicks. You have to pick your times and nights carefully. Best to go early when they first open or late, after the dinner rush. It's not a bargain - prices are high, service can be sloppy, and the food is hit or miss. My rule of thumb is if I can park within a block of the restaurant, chances are my experience will be good. But if I have to search for a parking space, well I've learned to avoid Florio at these times. Pros: great room, menu changes often, good people watching Cons: sloppy service, parking is scarce, staff's attitude more

Great Place 12/18/2005

This is such a comfortable upscale place. I have been many times and the only thing I wouldn't get is some stew that was only average. The bread is so good and it's a fun place to have a glass of wine. Pros: friendly, nice ambience Cons: can get crowded, parking more

Great food 11/11/2005

The restaurant was noisy but food was great. I had pumpkin pasta ($14) which was just 6 pieces but it was the best pasta I've ever had. My husband had a steak with fires ($24) which was a big portion. I care quality more than quantity. I would go back and try different pasta next time. Pros: Food Cons: Noise more

Tiny Portions, huge prices, bland food 9/16/2005

We've been there a number of times when we are in a time crunch but we have left disappointed and still hungry. They have tiny pasta portions and they find it acceptable to place rolls of bread on the table to be eaten with their cheap-smelling olive oil. I ordered a soup that was none too memorable (too salty, actually) and we ended up going across the street for a milkshake afterwards, since we were still hungry after our $$$$ meal! The waiter we had was unkempt and kept bringing me a glass of water (with no ice) the size of a dixie cup, and when i noticed other tables were getting larger glasses of water with ice, i asked for that, and he begrudgingly brought it to me. odd, since we were ordering wine. Save your money unless you don't mind parting with your hard earned $$. Pros: location, not busy Cons: parking, dull food, service more

Well Below Average for San Francisco 8/15/2005

With all of the other choices on Fillmore (and the city), this place should be on the bottom half of your list. The artichoke soup tasted like baby food, the pork terrine was flavorless, the gnocchi was bland with sauce that tasted like Chef Boyardee, and the bolognese was average. On the bright side, the decor was nice, the staff was friendly, and the wine prices were very reasonable. And, the warm chocolate cake dessert was good (but not spectacular). However, given the high price (for the food quality) and the tons of other choices in this town, we would not recommend Florio. Pros: Wine Prices, Friendly Staff, Good Location Cons: Bland Food, Over-Priced, Not Very French more

weird waiter 5/5/2005

we had a very stange waiter. I think he said the word marvelous about 20 times. Some of the food was excellent, some was nasty. Nice ambience though Pros: ambience Cons: service more

Perfect joint for 2 2/15/2004

My girlfriend and I had just visited this joint for the special Valentines nite out, and Florio nailed it in every way! Starting with the food: For starter, we ordered 2 types of oysters from the friendly and knowledgable waiter. The oysters were fresh and the dip not overpowering. For entree, we had the steak frites for 2, along with potato puree and chard, all prepared to perfection. For the dessert, the bread pudding with gelato couldn't be a better treat to conclude this wonderful meal. I had other French restaurants in mind when I was making reservation for this busy Valentines, but I was glad that I made the right choice. Pros: Food, Inexpensive, Ambience Cons: , Parking more

Always a winner 12/22/2003

This is a perfect place for both a special occasion or even just a good night out. Ambiance is perfect if you like cozy, dimly lit surroundings. Food is always consistently solid, if not outstanding. Pros: ambiance, food Cons: parking? more

great prix fixe for $27 3/14/2003

Florio offers a long-standing 3-course prix fixe every night for $27. Last night, it went something like this: crab cake appetizer (amazing, especially since Dungeness crab is in season), steak in red wine sauce, and a walnut tart for dessert. It was a great meal, but the walnut tart was, as all my dinner companions agreed, much too sweet. A la carte entrees were $15-30, mostly in the $19-25 range. The table next to ours had the steak frites for two, which looked very yummy. The service was friendly and efficient, but the tables are very close together (good for hanging out with friends, but maybe not so much for dates). more
