I honestly don't even know where to begin. My boyfriend and I are avid restaurant goers, and we are always on the lookout for new places and our friend had recommended Flatbush Farms. We arrived and were seated immediately, which made us both happy. We ordered our appetizers, I ordered the chicken and my boyfriend the salmon. Everything was going good until we got our meals. I took one look at the chicken and I was appalled. It was served with skin, over a bed of extremely undercooked spinach and mashed potatoes. My boyfriend asked me if I wanted to switch and eat his salmon instead, while he de-skinned the chicken so that I could enjoy the white meat. I took one bite from the $24 salmon, and I have never, in the 17 years I have been going to restaurants tasted salmon as fishy, as dry, and as bland as the one in Flatbush Farms. At this point, the waitress comes over and asks us if everything was okay, I was literally so shocked that I was speechless and didn't say anything, and guess what, the waitress WALKED away. So, I switch with my boyfriend again to see if maybe I could stomach the meat and spinach again, but the spinach was so undercooked that I just could not bite through it. I couldn't even enjoy the mashed potatoes because it was hidden completely under the chicken and spinach. I've had better chicken at BBQs!!!! So I decide to report back to the waitress because it was completely inedible. Guess what, I waited for TWENTY minutes before she came over and when she finally did, she says, ""oh well, I wish you would have said something earlier"" No apology, nothing. After that she simply took our plates, walked away, came back another TWENTY minutes later with the bill and the chicken on it!!!!!!!!!!!! No desert menu, no apology, nothing!!!!!! I was literally going to explode, but instead, my boyfriend took the bill and went to find the manager. This is where it really really gets bad: the manager said, there is absolutely nothing we can do, it's a matter of taste that she didn't like it, and I cannot comp it. Again, no apology, no is there anything else I can get you, no can I get you a drink to make up for it, nothing!!!! We refused to pay for it because at this point it had nothing to do with the food anymore. The level of rudeness was preposterous. The manager came to the table and said we can do what we want, so we paid for what we did enjoy, the drinks and appetizers, and walked out. I HAVE NEVER EVER HAD SUCH AN UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE. THIS STAFF SHOULD BE FIRED. UNACCEPTABLE. more

Did I expect too much? Just call it Chili for Chrissake. The ""Heirloom Legume"" item. Did you have to play with me like that? Get me all worked up for a tantalizing taste sensation and then wait... and.... here it comes..... Chili. And don't charge me $20 bucks for it. You deserve a smack in the head. That's a greater profit margin than the top shelf booze. Your description on the menu, a bit aggrandizing wouldn't you say for CHILI? Don't get me started. Myself and four friends dined at Flatbush Farm last night and it was a great! I was apprehensive about this place from reading the reviews and was pleasantly surprised before, during and after the meal. I feel like I went to a different restaurant. One with scrumptious food (my husband and I had the mouth watering steak for two), good service, and no greasy haired waitress. Hmmmm......I smell high maintenance customers frequenting this area. Hello? This is far from fine dining and the cool, aloof service is probably a result of your high maintenance self barking away at the wait staff. This place is CASUAL and very mellow. We had a very nice server who appeared when she was needed and waited on other tables when we didn't need her. Oh my God, yes there were other tables there who also looked extremely pleased with the food. I saw the half chicken entree float by and it was HUGE. Nice portions - the steak for two is not for light eaters. So, for those of you wondering where the server was on a busy night, she was...let me take a wild guess here, WAITING on other tables because you were probably not the only table there. Whew! I know you probably didn't realize this. The prices are reasonable (organic = expensive, park slope(ish)=expensive, year 2009 economy tanking = expensive) and the food is very tasty. If you need to count your pennies to have dinner, perhaps you should stay home and cook your own dinner! Pros: Food, Service, Ambiance Cons: None. more

Dinner at Flatbush Farm is just a great all around dining experience. Personable, attentive waitstaff, serving wonderfully seasoned, nicely cooked, fresh ingredients in a sociable yet relaxing atmosphere at terrifically reasonable prices. The most compelling selling point about this busy local joint, for me, is the outdoor dining area in the back. On a clear and cool night, eating out back at this place makes for a perfect evening. Pros: outdoor dining area, food, personable service Cons: long wait times more

Best Spatzle in the City, Hands Down! 6/13/2008

Being a regular customer at The Farm for the past year, I can't help but wonder if it was another restaurant that these other reviewer's are refering to. First off, the majority of the time I have a great experience with the waitstaff, they are attentive but do not hover and sufficate the dining experience. Secondly, the food is consistently outstanding! The constant chaning of the seasonally local menu always allows for a culinary surprise. Most recently I have had the pleasure of dining on the Asapargus Spatzle, it was the best I have had in the city, and I have tried almost every restaurants Spatzle. Maybe the Chef is Austrian? more

I have a love and hate relationship with flatbush farm. Finally after last night, I will not eat there again. I first ate there when they served duck confit. Now that is not on the menu. I tried everything and nothing is that good. The wait staffs are terrible. All the women dress terribly. One brunch i had a waitress that had grease all over her blouse that was too tight and showing her extra poundage.Maybe if this was a greasy dinner in n.j. but for the price they charge, they should be more presentable. That alone made me lose my appetite. Then i got the worst grits in my life that tasted like it was not cooked long enough. The waitress basically said that 's how we cook them here. Any descent restaraunt would have offer the customer to chose something else. One evening, waitress forgot an appetizer first than forgot an entree. Did not even come to the table to acknowlege it. .As in the 80's sitcom 'Alice"" you can Kiss My Grits if I ever spend another penny there. the end...... Nice cuisine, Great back yard 5/6/2008

I have had very positive experiences at this restaurant. I have been there three times. The first time I ate in the bar area. I had some oysters and then the lamb stew. I returned and had the chicken liver salad and a sea bass special with corn succotash. Most recently I had their burger. All of the food was very good, well seasoned, though not inexpensive. If you are looking for a cheap takeout meal, look elsewhere, I would say this is quality stuff. more

where do i begin, the service was horrible, it was like i was doing them a favor for being there and should shutup. i think my waiter got lost because i didnt see him for a good 45 minutes. the food , well, lets just say i left the farm and walked across the street to eat. I also noticed there menu kept mentioning charcuterie. i cant help but think about the deli next door that used to be named charcuterie. i believe they moved across the street. I looked up what charcuterie means because i was curious why they used the name, turns out it means butcher shop in french, so im not sure why they have dishes using that name. all in all i feel like i wasted my money and time. The Worst Service 4/3/2008

The first time I went to this restaurant they had horrible service - the second time I went hoping that they were only having an off day the first time- their service sucked! At least they are consistent in that regard. I went there for brunch one Sunday with friends and we were seated on arrival which was the only plus of the afternoon. We ordered orange juice from our waitress and waited and waited. She then came to take the order and I asked her where the orange juice was (she had forgotten and so comped the juice). We ordered our meal and when it arrived part of it was missing - we brought that to the attention of our waitress and she appologized and went back to the kitchen (she forgot to put the order in)- she then brought out the wrong item after only moments before telling her what it was. Finally, we just told her to forget it. After that it was almost as though we had an invisible table - we had to constantly call her over to get either water or another fork or something (aren't the wait staff supposed to check on their tables?) The last straw came after we ordered tea at the end of our meal - we watched as our waitress walked back and forth throughout the restaurant for 15 minutes and never came back to the table ( I am still waiting for the tea.) Disgusted, we called another waiter who happened to be walking by and asked him to bring the check - which he did. I can only assume that when our original waitress realized that the bill was about to be settled and the time for getting a tip was at hand she was miraculously present and accounted for. Too bad since she didn't get a tip (I don't tip for shoddy service) - and I left a note on the check explaining that fact both to her and the manager or owner so that they would know it is not ok to run such a slip shod operation. Good food, nice ambience 10/18/2007

I was skeptical about going after reading some of these reviews about the bad service, but was pleasantly surprised when I went for dinner last night. The service was fine and the food was very good. I had the spetzle as an appetizer and it was delicious (worth going back just for that), and the chicken as the entree which was pretty good (the garlic mashed potatoes were yummy). Everyone else enjoyed their meal as well. I would recommend going there in a small group-- not a kids place and not necessarily a cozy romantic place either. But if you support local organic food, this place is definitely worth a try. Pros: food, values more

The service at this establishment is pretty crappy, can't really emphasize that point enough times. I went over there with my boyfriend on a Saturday night. Keep in mind, the place was pretty empty. He got there before me and was seated in the back with a menu and drink list. By they time I arrived, he'd been sitting there 5 minutes already with no signs of a server. We then proceeded to wait another 15 minutes before he got up to see what the deal was with our server. We were then informed that they were now serving from the BAR menu next door, so we basically wasted time checking out a menu that was no longer in use I can understand when things are busy and it's hard to get to patrons when your busy running around. However, it wasn't that busy in fact it was pretty empty, and that's just inexcusable. Pros: Food was ok Cons: BAD SERVICE more
