My mom surprised me with a membership to Fitness First about two years ago and noticed something right off the bat - almost all of the personal trainers are overweight. Not to be unkind, but how can I trust what they say about health and fitness if they aren't portraying what I would consider fit? The equipment is up-to-date, the facility is clean and many of the classes will kick your butt, but the trainers made highly unmotivated. On one specific trip to the gym, a personal trainer with a beer gut came up to me and told me I had no muscle mass! Shortly thereafter, I bought an elliptical from Costco for under $400. It was a great deal that paid itself off in less than a year and now I don't have to pay the exorbitant monthly membership fees (about $35 a month) to go to the gym!
