I'm a mechanic who works at a dealership. I, like lots of other mechanics, do not like working on my own car.
To save money I replaced my struts myself. I purchased a lifetime alignment from Firestone so that I wouldn't have to always go to my shop on my days off, after i install parts to do my alignment. Evidently i should.
After getting the alignment done my steering wheel was pointing about 15 degrees to the right when the vehicle was driving straight. Complete rookie mistake.. you have to set the steering wheel straight before you set the wheels straight. I had to fix that myself, only adjusted the front 2 wheels.
Fast forward about a month, I just did a brake inspection on my car, and guess what? They left one of the lock nuts loose for the adjustment of toe in the rear.. this nut keeps it from adjusting itself while I'm driving. If I hadn't have noticed, it could have gotten to the point where it fell apart.
Looking closely at it, I can tell the wheel is pointing out, or toed out.
Alignment shop can't even do alignments. I would never take my car here again, for anything, nor would i suggest this "shop" to anyone else.
