What I wouldn't give to have a REAL pub here in Sugarhouse! Since moving back here two years ago I've craved a quality, no-frills, neighborhood style pub to call my own. (And no, ...

Fiddler's Hellhole 12/13/2010

At first this place seems sweet! Everybody who likes watching sports would enjoy the atmosphere. Sunday brunch is the only time I will pobably go there from now on because the service is terrible! At least at brunch you can help yourself.\r \r Recently, we went there and waited an hour and nobody ever came to our table or waited on us so we left. I realize that they were super busy because football was on, but that is their whole deal so you would think they would have it figured out.\r \r This part may sound very superficial. The staff is UGLY. Not saying they should have models, but I don't want to lose my appitite when I look at my waitresses nickel-sized pimple about to burst. I also don't want to see them running around in what looks like what the slept in the night before. \r \r The pulled-pork nachos and the San Franciscan sandwich are amazing. The brunch price and quality are outstanding.\r \r If this place had great service it would be a regular stop. The only reason they are getting away with it is the atmosphere. So I suggest if you get bad service let them know so they will fix this problem. more

My Best to James, the excellent Fiddler's bartender! 12/19/2008

I love to eat at Fiddler's. REAL mashed potatoes! So many varieties. And the fish and pizza are always excellent. And then there is that wonderful Mexican soup! I must have eaten several dozen meals at Fiddler's, and I've never been disappointed. Occasionally I've had to wait longer that I'd like, but most of the time the service has been fast and pleasant. As for the bartender, James, I've never seen anyone work so fast and furiously, and Fiddler's is a VERY BUSY place! It's busy because it's good! Good food, good people, and a fun atmosphere. I give it 5 stars, and hope that James gets through his stressful week intact to have a very Merry Christmas. more

hey mikey 12/18/2008

dont know of a better way to comunicate with you than this. Have you ever had a bad day?\r at work busy as hell and some drunk clown trying to make you smile with stupid inane antics which just adds too the torment you have been through in you life the last week?\r \r How dare you be so self important to think you were the only none who needed attention that night. I have worked at fiddlers elbow for 11 years and i do a daamn good job. You should get your self interested passive agressive self into fidds and we can talk about it. Pros: food beer athmosphere Cons: busy with sports and loud more

Avoid the bar like the plague! 12/17/2008

I have been a longtime customer of Fiddler's. Have been going there since the late 90s. But the service is seriously slipping. In particular, James the bartender needs an attitude adjustment. That guy could give a rodent's backside less about your satisfaction with his service UNTIL it's time to pay your tab and tip him. Then he's your best bud. It's so shamefully transparent that a couple of other customers that hadn't spoke to each other all night up until that point started chatting about this very subject. He is just rude and offers horrible service. Only when he's trying to work a tip out of you does he show you any respect or friendliness. I am boycotting this place, even though I only recently renewed my membership. Fiddler's is no longer among my ""places to go."" Two thumbs down. Pros: Great cozy place once upon a time Cons: Service is horrid! James is the worst of all! more

Money is more important than service 6/23/2008

GOOD GOD! We ate lunch at Fiddler's on a Sunday. With their brunch and some sports on tv, they had a reasonable number of patrons and tables filled. Service was pretty slow and then the power went out! You'd have thought it was an earthquake. Our server brought our check quickly and begged us to pay immediately, saying that they wouldn't have much time to run credit cards. Running on a generator? There was NO explanation. No manager came around. Nothing. Just waitresses, running around with their heads cut off and likely decreasing their tip amounts by the minute. It was truly appalling. In fact, I used to think Fiddler's was ok, but we're officially boycotting it now. There was no attention paid to the customers post-power outage - strictly concern for closing out tabs. Um, I'm pretty sure most of your food will spoil, so it's better to think about service and your customer loyalty! When we were leaving, I suggested to the host that they consider buying manual credit card runners (old school.) In response to what was a legitimate and fair suggestion, I got a sarcastic response, ""oh yeah. I'll GET ON THAT."" You better believe I'm calling his manager today. Sorry buddy - don't be such an a-hole next time. Cons: service more

worth the wait? maso menos 10/31/2007

i don't know why i find myself going back to this place. i never get good service, WAIT! one time i did that really stands out. the bartenders walk past you most of the time, as do the servers on the floor. maybe why i still go there is because once you do get your pitcher or food, you can watch the games or talk with friends, whatever~ the staff shrugs around and doesn't really seem to pay attention to the floor real well. \r but...i do go there and have a good time, as long as the Jazz and the 49ERs win.\r Go to the Porcupine \r Pros: close to friends house Cons: one, maybe two cute girls that work there more

Very bad service. 10/26/2007

The server was very rude, and the service was very slow. As a matter of fact we decided to leave before our food came. more

Pre-Feed 5/24/2007

You may want to eat before you go to Fiddler's to eat. The portion sizes for some things, sandwiches in particular, are microscopic. Now maybe in this era of ever expanding waistlines, we should encourage that. But if you're kinda hungry, you'll definitely want an appetizer or two. Also, I wouldn't try talking to a manager. The one I spoke with had all the charm of a rectal abscess. I think they hire directly from the pool of folks too surly to work for the DMV. Remember, you're lucky they're willing to serve you at all. In truth, the food was tasty and our server was great. But I won't be back. Pros: OK ambience, decent parking. Cons: Lousy attitude toward customers, small portion sizes more

Decent Bar Food and a Great Pitcher of Guinness 11/20/2006

I started going to Fiddler's Elbow to watch soccer matches, which weren't being shown at home. Now, I frequently find myself going back whether there is a match on or not. It's a lighthearted, casual atmosphere and can vary from packed, with people standing during big games, to plenty of empty seats. There is always a good variety of sport on the big screens around the room, and you can seat yourself strategically to get the best view of your particular game. The staff are young, friendly, and casual, no snobs or attitudes here. There is a good variety of beer on tap, and they make a mean cadillac margarita. The menu consists of basic bar-type fare. I personally recommend the veggie burger, the nachos (which are huge and meant to be shared), or the excellent fish and chips (an amazing value for the price). Overall, Fiddlers is a great option for casual dining, watching the big game, having a few beers, or just hanging out. Pros: Casual. Inexpensive. Beer. Cons: Can get very noisy, but hey, it's a sports bar. more

We love this place!!! 9/21/2006

Sports, Drinks, Good Food and no FRICKIN' Kids. One of our favorite gathering places with friends, we bring all of our out-of-town guests when they come to visit. Keep your tavern license 'cause we are sick of going out to eat and listening to peoples out of control children at other establishments.\r more

Great service - NOT!!! 5/11/2005

I took my mother and grandmother for Mothers Day Brunch..The servers were just plan rude. more

great place to hang out 4/27/2003

Home made food, best beer selection in town, great friendly service, and a terrific atmosphere complete with leather couches and padded bar stools. The place is FUN FUN FUN and we can afford to go there a couple times a week. They truly cater to their ""loyal customers""...calling us by name and even giving a discount to those of us who frequent Fiddler's. The Sunday brunch is the best kept secret in town. Bar non---our fave place. Pros: familiarity, service, great local beers more

NO ONE UNDER 21 2/26/2003

When we went there to eat dinner one night, we found out it was a pub. NO ONE UNDER 21 ALLOWED INSIDE. DO NOT LIKE THIS LAW!!! more

Delightful Pub 2/19/2003

It's hard to find a pub in Utah that is as pleasant as Fiddler's Elbow. Special kudos to James the Bartender, Cindy the Shift Manager, Al the New Owner (be sure to stop by to see his box), Sue the Brunch Omelette Person, and the rest of the terrific wait-staff. Pros: Pub Atmosphere, Beer Selections, Staff Cons: Brunch is only on Sun, Should be on Sat Also more

Sugarhouse needs a REAL pub 2/19/2003

What I wouldn't give to have a REAL pub here in Sugarhouse! Since moving back here two years ago I've craved a quality, no-frills, neighborhood style pub to call my own. (And no, The Tap Room doesn't cut it). I thought I had found a potential candidate when I began visiting Fiddler's Elbow. But the place can't figure out if it wants to be a pub or a restaurant. A pub with a kitchen I can understand, but a restaurant with a bar is no pub! The food is good enough to fill a void, no more. The beer is all weak 'Utah' beer (thanks to the ""tavern"" licence they hold), some of it good, some of it swill. Bartenders have very little conversational/social skills and waitresses unattractive all (very politically incorrect I know). I understand the ownership has recently changed, so here's hoping for some improvement. Pros: location, building, parking Cons: bartending staff more

Great Place!! 2/8/2003

I was pleasantly surprised by Fiddler's Elbow, given that some of the other reviews about this place were negative. The food was decent and the atmosphere was great. I love the fact there are TV screens everywhere. This is a great place to hang out with friends. I can't wait to go back! Pros: Great Atmosphere, Lots of TV's more

Good Beer/Good Food 2/3/2003

Love the selection of beers on tap! And this place has some of the best fish and chips I've had. They use Salmon for their fish and chips...very tasty. Also really like the artichoke dip. Nice open feeling - big screens to watch a game and pool tables that are well maintained. Love that there is no smoking inside but smokers can still suck a butt out on the patio. Pros: lots of beers on tap!, Patio smoking only! more

Oh yeah, give it a try! 12/14/2002

What a great place! Nice ambiance, great food, good service. Our party had everything from Chicken and Dumplings to Pasta Salad. It was all so yummy. The place just has a nice feel - comfortable place that serves comfort food. The prices are comfortable too. Pros: tasty, affordable, relaxed more
