Too many shortcuts are taken at Farm - a place that was recommended to me for its seasonal, local ingredients focus. Well that's all fine and good but if a kitchen can't perform u...

Classic Portland 2/27/2008

I've been many times over the years. Went tonight with my wife and enjoyed the pleasant staff, solid cocktails, and well done meal. We had the brie appetizer (okay) with butternut squash ravioli for her and sole entrees. The sole (with and olive tapenade) was very good and my wife loved the ravioli. Washed it all down with a bottle of Portuguese tinto. Pros: A Portland original, local flavor, local style, local cool Cons: small space more

Nothing compares 2/12/2008

The farm cafe has won me over time and time again. Had dinner there this week and everything was top notch. From the service to the food with a setting that makes anyone feel at home....worth every minute. more

Good but minimal 2/9/2008

While the food is good, the portions are minimal and your entrees are the only thing you get for the price. Needs to include at least bread or salad with the meal folks. Pros: Great taste Cons: Include a salad or bread w/ meal more

My favorite place to eat in Portland ! 1/12/2008

The farm is a gourmet restaurant without the gourmet price ! My husband I make it a tradition to go at least once a month since we moved to Portland. It is all that is good and holy about our fine city! If the Farm was in Seattle it would be pretentious and three times as expensive! The willams baked brie is perfection and the herb-crusted tofu is a dream. The service is always good. more

ok food, prentious service 11/30/2007

This restaurant has a nice atmosphere going for it but is rendered ineffectual when coupled with the pretentious servers. We felt rushed to place our orders. Our waiter made bare minimum effort when it came to being friendly and even walked up to the table as my husband was pouring wine for a friend and asked him to move his arm so he could clear some plates! Amazing! The food is decent, but not what you would expect for the price. With the food mecca that Portland is, I'm surprised it's so busy. I left feeling like we should have chosen somewhere else for our special occasion. Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: awful service! more

food was fantastic, staff was great! 11/14/2007

Had read previous bad reviews and was inspired to write since our experience was fabulous. It was my friend's birthday and she had never been to the farm. She had the salmon which tasted wonderful, I had the grilled polenta with wild mushrooms in a tasty marsala sauce. Delicious!! Our waiter Joe was friendly and accomodating. gave us recommendations and even brought out the incredible chocolate souffle with a candle in honor of my friend's birthday. We got there at 5:30pm and it wasn't busy yet. recommend getting there early. Pros: food is excellent, chocolate souffle to die for, staff knowledgable and friendly, Cons: a bit loud when it got busy more

Worth the wait 11/5/2007

Previous reviews of the Farm Cafe on this site showed alarmingly consistent bad service, so we were prepared to be horrified; in fact, we had a great evening. Pros: Great ambience, cocktails and local food more

Best Seafood with local ingredients 10/8/2007

I have been here twice and will keep going back. Pros: Wild, local ingredients. Delicious combinations. Cons: Too expensive more

tasty food; abysmal customer service 9/18/2007

Time after time, I return to Farm Cafe hoping that the customer service will someday meet the quality of the food. With each disappointment I return months later thinking that the servers have moved on or the management has wised up. Pros: parking, good food at good price Cons: service, attentiveness, sometimes the wait is long more

Great food, bad service 8/24/2007

I agree with the other reviews. I continue to go to the farm because the food is delicious, but the service is consistently horrible. more

Tofu Marsala is aces! 8/13/2007

I'm mystified by all of these complaints of bad service; we've gone there dozens of times and never had problems! Perhaps these reviewers are rather high maintenance? I used to wait tables, and know the complaining types - always the most vocal, never satisified, and never reasonable - if you are one of those, just do everyone a favor and don't go here! Head to the Olive Garden or Shari's or whatever. Pros: excellent food, prompt and friendly service Cons: tight space when entering the front initially more

Good Food, Good Service. Get over yourselves People!!!!!!!!!! 8/5/2007

I've read plenty of reviews of the farm, and am left a little perplexed. I visit the farm enough to know, but not enough to have become familiar with the wait staff, and have always had at the very least decent service. I've been on dates, entertained out of town friends, been with a group of 10, and attend with two friends about once every two months, sometimes more. Adequate service every situation. I think some of you people have issues. The food has always been good. It can take some time, but it's not fast food people. The Farm isn't a place you go if your in a hurry. Maybe you should find an Olive Garden or some other corporate trough to satiate your impatience and inability to enjoy the local flavor. Fudruckers perhaps? I'll take the Farm. more

Salmon dish was awful 8/1/2007

Was happy to finally go here, the stuffedfig starter was amazing, servers were rushed but polite, then came the main. It was a perfect portion size, but tasted bland and was over-cooked and dry (as were the occompanying veggies and ochre), i told the server this and she suggested some aoli or lemon juice. Not to replace the dish. She asked again how it was and I explained that it was still dry and didn't taste good. She never returned except with the bill - and we were charged full price ($20). Won't go there again or recommend to friends. Pros: good starters/drinks Cons: bad mains/service more

most consistently atrocious service in portland 7/24/2007

been to the farm several times in the past several yrs and each time - without fail - i've left w/ a poor taste in my mouth. the food is good but with it comes waiting. inattention. more waiting at the bar. watching parties that arrive after you being served before you. cold stares from the waitstaff. waiting and waiting for food to arrive from the kitchen. no apologies. not even acknowledgement of anything wrong at all. don't go here unless you have an endless supply of time or masochism. it's a drag more

WORST SERVICE EVER!! 7/13/2007

The funny thing about the Farm is that if you really lived on a Farm and ate portions that small you would die! That aside the food is tasty but not worth a trip to since the service is horrendous. I have visited the Farm a few times since it is one of the few joints in town that supports local organic agriculture. A seeming treat, but be wary! The last straw: one night a large group of 8 friends came in for drinks and dinner before a show. The show was at 9. I came in at 7 to put our name on the list. The hostess told us the wait would be about an hour. No problem. We sat at the bar and ordered yummy bloody marys. Just past 8 we were seated. We ordered our food and it took over an hour for it to come out. During that time we kept asking if it was coming to be told yes yes it's on its way. Finally the meal arrived as our show was starting so we scarfed it down and asked for the bill and were generally displeased. We communicated this to our server and she offered to comp some of our drinks which seem fair considering we were a large crowd though it was not a weekend night. This made us momentarily happy until the bartender (Alexa) came over to our table and asked what was wrong. We told her we were generally dissatisfied watching people sit after us, eat there meal and leave all before we even got our food! She said if we didn't like it we didn't have to come back! And then she rudely walked away. That was the worst service I have ever received and it made me livid. So I sat up and followed her to demand some sort of acknowledgement of her rudeness only to be asked then to ""take it outside."" I was so furious, I left. The rest of my group wound up having to pay full price for the meal though my meal was deducted. Reading the other reviews on The Farm Cafe, it seems like the service has been consistently poor for some time. I truly hope the owners of this establishment step it up and represent the sustainable community in better light. Pros: organic local fare Cons: inconsistent food prep, $$ vs. portion, HORRIBLE SERVICE more

Great Food and Drinks 7/5/2007

I LOVED THE TOFU DISH THEY HAVE. THE COCKTAILS ARE GREAT AND THE WAITERS WERE REALLY NICE AND ATTENTIVE... more

Good Food but....Rude! Rude! Rude! 4/6/2007

We went to the Farm when my Dad was in town because we had heard that the food was so great. After waiting for an hour (not bad I hear for this place) we were finally seated. The waitress was snobby & very short with us. We ordered drinks, appitizers, entrees, and dessert. After our tasty meal, we had just began talking when the rude hostess came over and asked us ""How do you feel about leaving because we have other people waiting?"" in a very snobby tone. I said we had spent over $300 dollars here (not including the tip which they automatically added) and I didn't feel like we should have to go anywhere. We were'nt going to stay where we weren't wanted, so we left and went to another place that was happy to have us & let us talk as much as we wanted! Don't ever bring anyone there that you want to impress or have a good time with, or have a nice conversation with - you'll be cut-off rudely. Pros: Food & Parking Cons: The entire staff & their lack of tables more

there's a wait, but there's a reason! 3/26/2007

the food is always amazing, and usually something you wouldn't make at home. prices are reasonable, even for the wines. i've never had a problem with service, every person has always been pleasant. the area is starting to become a little busier, but it only makes farm more of a destination for a night out. Pros: amazing food, especially for vegetarian Cons: can be a wait more

Go to the Farm! I did! 3/2/2007

Well, this is where I first looked for info on The Farm, so I might as well review it. Contrary to some of the hyper-sensitive hipsters who reviewed it below, and with me being prepared NOT to have good service, I have to say the service was excellent. No significant wait, the beer on draft was darned good, all the food was great, no matter what (bass, blackened salmon, some seafood Rizotto, etc. ) Appetizers were great. Pros: Great food, service was just fine, thanks! Cons: Hey, it's a small place. Whatchagonna do? more

Good food! Great waitress! Rude hostess! Left with bad taste! Never to return! 2/22/2007

The Farm had been recommended to me by friend. I had a childhood friend in town that I had not seen in over 20 years and decided to give it a try. We had great drinks and dinner and we were enjoying great conversation until we were told (in so many words) by the hostess to move along since they had more people to be seated. I could maybe understand that line of thinking if it was a weekend not a Wednesday night at 8:40. The one couple who was waiting was seated at a table and another couple at the bar was seated at a table so I am not exactly sure why it was so important to run us off and ruin our dining experience. Now, I have experienced many restaurants in all parts of town. Many of them are fine dining restaurants that this area has to offer. I just find the whole experience of the ""hostess"" coming to our table and saying that to us as very unnecessary. It has givien me a bad thoughts about this establishment because I find it to be so rude and not a good way to handle the situation! If the table was truly needed for other customers I am sure there was a much nicer way to handle this situation. I realize that we were done with dinner and we were done with drinks and we wanted no dessert or more drinks. In the future they should think about not being so rude to their paying customers. By the way, the food was good and the waitress was excellent. I just feel that Portland has so many restaurants that have a lot to offer. So when on does something such as this why would I need to go back there or tell any of my friends to go there! more
