Best

I have always been a big fan of Joe's Pizza for the last 20 years. It is a small establishment which moved down the block from it's original location which was right on the corner...

Worst

The pizza was very thin and it was slightly burnt...need I say more? Pros: good location, affordable Cons: crammed space, dingy, not enough seating

Great Pizza, unfriendly service 3/18/2006

Dont go expecting a warm welcome. The servers want you in and out. You wont get any small talk from these guys. I have eaten at this place for years, and its still one of my favorites. There small little park across the street that is always great to sit in ( Its under construction right now) If you are visiting the city, make sure you hit this place! more

BEST PIZZA EVER 9/19/2005

Joe's pizza is the best in the NYC. I used to work on Varick Street and would go there for lunch, that was my first time and I've been going back there ever since (I left my job on Varick in 2000 plus I live in Brooklyn) I would purposely get on the train to go to Joe's from Brooklyn. I have my whole family liking the pizza. The chese and sauce is perfect together and the crust is baked to perfection. The decor is plain and there is no seating, but going there to get a slice is worth it. All the years I've been going to Joe's, the pies that come out of the oven quickly vanishes within 10 minutes. I've never seen a pie just sit there waiting for someone to buy a slice. It's just incredible and I want to thank Joe for such delicious pizza! more

Really great! 7/25/2005

I went to joes on my first trip to NYC and was pleased. I had heard about it via a friend who lives in NYC and decided to go. It was about 1:30 on a saturday and the place wasnt crowded. I had no trouble getting seats. THe pizza was excellent and a great value! Pros: great pizza, fast service, good location Cons: few seats more

burnt pizza 7/11/2005

The pizza was very thin and it was slightly burnt...need I say more? Pros: good location, affordable Cons: crammed space, dingy, not enough seating more

Just ok 7/8/2005

Not a bad slice, crispy crust with a decent sauce. It's just that there are much better slices to be had in the city. I don't see why this place gets such good reviews. I was disappointed. Also it is small, cramped and the pizza is overpriced. Pros: nice crust, location Cons: overpriced, cramped more

TASTY!! 6/14/2005

Mall pizza Location brings in good crowds. Big crowds do not make good pizza. more

Great Among Giants 5/19/2005

Best slice in the Village, but John's is better for whole pies. I went a few times and thought the pizza was only good to so-so, and coud not understand the hype; but I went other times and saw why other people thought of this as the best slice in the city. I think it's just that the pizza varies from visit to visit; perhaps it depends on who is manning the ovens. It looks now as though they have shut down one of their two restaurants that were a few doors apart from one another on Carmine St. Pros: can be the best slice, ok even on bad days Cons: quality varies more

Best Slice In New York 4/26/2005

Forget about the best ""slice"" this is the best pizza in NYC period. If you don't think so you should move back to Idaho for a nice potato slice. Pie only restaurants serve nice, yuppie brick oven concoctions with gourmet toppings. No problem with these but they can't qualify as best slice in my book. Best slice is the traditional with no toppings and Joe's is the best. Used to be NYC had a bunch of good ones but most are gone now leaving us with (fill in the blank) Ray's Pizzas dripping with fake cheese on a sponge. So crispy you might as well order three slices (I know you want it) and tasty too! The place is a dump but that's just keeping it real. Real cheese, real thin crust, real good sauce. If you don't agree, you're an idiot. more

charm gone in new location, pizza still good 3/6/2005

Joe's moved from the corner to the middle of the block and now looks like every other pizzeria in New York. The management nonetheless put up a sign in the new space proclaiming the shop is ""as seen in spiderman."" Oh, the irony. The pizza is the same - ""the best"" according to Bostonian Ben Affleck. Pros: best pie Cons: zero charm more

Spider-Man Pizza 12/25/2004

There are so many reasons you can list for why you should eat at Joe's. Maybe it's for the totally authentic NY pizza. Or maybe the convenient location in the heart of the Village with equally convenient late hours. My reason you ask? Spider-Man personally delivers your pizza. Don't believe me? Go rent Spider-Man 2. Pros: authentic NY pizza, Spidey worked here Cons: , Spidey was fired more

In Search of the Plain Slice 5/29/2004

I heard someone say one of the great things about NYC is that you can get good pizza anywhere. Not true. The art of the delicious plain slice has been forgotten under heaps of stale toppings, cheap mozzarella, and uninspired sauces. Mediocrity has become the norm. Joe's makes pizza just like my neighborhood Italian pizzaria when I was a kid. Visit this inconspicuous corner spot when you're near the West Village and rediscover the joy of a plain slice done right. Pros: Perfect plain slice more

The best..... 2/28/2004

The best pizza in NYC and the world. This is the Plato's ""form"" of what pizza should be. Excellent crust, tasty sauce and just the right amount of cheese. I always order a pie ""well done"" plain or with anchovies. more

Best Pizza Ever! 1/12/2004

Every time I'm home, I make sure I go to Joe's. I usually go around lunch time, when it can be crowded, but it's worth it. The fresh mozzarella pizza is easily my favorite slice, although the plain cheese slice is also great. The only downside is the lack of space/seating, but the quality of the pizza easily makes up for it. I recommend that everyone tries Joe's at least once, just go when I'm not there. Pros: Overall taste, Fresh Mozzarella, Inexpensive Cons: Limited seating/space more

Pizza Heaven 11/24/2003

For pizza, there is only one place to go and it's Joe's. Just make sure you get there in the afternoon, because once night falls the line goes out the door for those waiting for a table. The pizza is simply that good and with so many different varieties to chose from! Pros: Price, Food, Variety on menu Cons: Crowds, Long lines for tables, Noisy more

simply the best... 9/25/2003

Do you crave a good slice of pizza? Do you want something late night to help quell your impending hang over that is quick, easy and delicious?? Look no further than Joe's. I love pizza. I make it a point to try a slice at every pizza place I see, and I can honestly say hands down, Joe's is the best. Don't go expecting a nice, or even decent, place to sit down with your date and enjoy a pie. It's pretty crappy looking and and people are lined up like they are waiting for their unemployment check. However, DO NOT BE DETERRED. Go now and be prepared to be pleased. Joe's is simply NY traditional style pizza at it's best. No gimmicks like coal ovens or deep dishes to try and trick you. You are not forced to buy an entire pie to sample. You'll be thanking me later!! Pros: the best tasting, cheap, great neighborhood Cons: small shop, not the cleanest more

best pizza by the slice in NYC 8/19/2003

Joe's has the best pizza by the slice in NYC. whenever I visit the Village I make sure I stop by Joe's. service is quick. and each slice is about $1.50 which is a good deal. they are located on Carmine St. right near Bleecker. check it out next time you are in Greenwich Village Pros: pizza by the slice, cheap, tasty pizza more

It is great. 4/22/2003

It was on David Letterman's talk show. Rated as the best pizza ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Great pizza, Low Price, Nice worker Cons: Takes a while, Not enough workers, not many people works more

Crispiest, yummiest pizza 4/22/2003

I happened acrossed Joes Pizza the 1st time I ever ventured into the village alone as a teen. Joes blew me away. I was hooked from day one...I would pass a dozen other pizzerias in the snow to get to joes. The crust is thin but always crispy. The sauce and the cheese melt together to perfection. I moved to the DC area recently and still fantasize about Joes Pizza...there is truly no other pizza that comes close. Pros: crispiest crust, the sauce, and the cheese! Cons: small, crowded more

Best slice in town 3/10/2003
