It's a tiny, grotty hole in the wall on Fair Oaks Avenue, Madison's near east side. The food is greasy, the is usually pretty darn friendly, and there are really dingy toys available for the kids that they love and that I'm a little afraid of. I think the diner itself seats, max, maybe 20 (I'm guessing here; there are only a few tables and a counter), and the neighborhood clientèle is typical near east side-Madison: blue collars, lesbians, hippie families, young professionals. The food is that magnificent, greasy loveliness that's just so darn right early on a Saturday morning, possibly when you're hungover or just when you need the exactly right diner hashbrown slider experience. The prices are very reasonable, and the menu selection, while always adhering to the "what you want early Saturday AM" standard, allows for flexibility, like the bomblet (basil omelet). For what it is, this place is perfect. Located just down the road from Olbrich Gardens and the now trend Atwood area, right off the bike path and just off the lake, it's a great little neighborhood nosh.
