Monica is Really Excellent 7/6/2011

My friend referred me to a stylist at Fada - when I couldn't get in quickly enough to see him (he was on vacation), I read the internet reviews of Fada and saw that Monica had excellent reviews, so I made an appointment with her. I had high hopes for this appointment because I had read that this was a fairly pricey salon and, having had my last haircut done somewhere else 6 months ago on the cheap (a huge mistake), I figured there must be something to that adage about ""you get what you pay for."" Fortunately, I was not disappointed - Monica listened to what I had to say, asked the right questions and had great ideas of her own (based on my input) about how to clean up the mess that was my hair. She gave me the perfect haircut for me and also showed me how I could style it myself if I ever wanted to get fancy (I am generally hopeless when it comes to styling my own hair, but I actually think I will be able to follow her simple instructions). She's great - and French! (J'aime la France!) I will always go back to her now. more

Owner NEEDS a business class 12/23/2010

It was unfortunate that my haircut experience ended with the owner. After a 20minute wait for my stylist, she delivered a pretty good cut. The salon atmosphere was pleasant, very clean and the staff professional.\r \r \r However, upon checkout, I wanted to make a follow up appointment with the stylist. Instead of offering an appointment, the owner informed me I would have to pay an additional amount with my Groupon. I balked because I had informed the receptionist that I had a Groupon when making appointment. She insisted that I pay the additional $5. Rather than have her take it out of the employee's tip, I paid the additional amount. I was appalled that she would reduce the employee's tip to cover the $5.\r \r I left without making a follow-up appointment. The owner's short-sightedness cost her a future customer.\r \r \r \r more

Won't go back 7/24/2010

I was very impressed when I walked in. I actually arrived very early (at 1215 for my 1 oclock appt) but I stopped in to tell them I was there. They told me there were running slightly late because they had to squeeze someone in for color, but I was welcome to wait. I left and came back at 1. At 1:20 I was told that the stylists assistant would be coming for me any moment. At 1:30 I told the receptionist that I was concerned because I had a wedding to go to after and they were already 30 minutes late. She rushed around to figure something out. She found another stylist that could take me right away (this was very nice... they could have kept me waiting). The haircut is ok... not what i asked for. I didn't like the stylist's attitude about the fact that I was there using a ""Groupon."" Almost like I wasn't a ""real"" customer? Isn't the idea of a groupon to get new clients into your establishment so they hopefully come back? What really upset me about the situation was this: the stylist, the owner, and the receptionist made a point that they were so glad they could accommodate me. I wish I would have been brave enough to say that actually they didn't accommodate me - they accommodated the person that they squeezed in that ended up taking my appt. I called a couple weeks ahead, made an appt, and showed up on time. I shouldn't have to be thankful that they can ""accommodate"" me by actually giving me the service that I made an appt for. All in all, I've had better service and haircuts many other places. Won't go back Pros: Location, atmosphere Cons: rude, wait more

Portland's best hair stylist...look no further 7/24/2010

I have found my hair cutting Goddess and her name is Monica. For years I went to the $15 buck chop-shops because I am a cheapo. But after having a real, quality cut, I will never do that to my hair again. What was I thinking???? I am planning a move out of Oregon and you know what? I will always come back to Fada to have Monica cut my hair. She is amazing! I had my colour done there once too and was really pleased with how they transformed my wreck of a colour job into a really beautiful, natural look. It is not overly expensive, but it is not cheap either. But treat yourself. All the staff at Fada are always welcoming, warm and professional. Monica's cuts are designed to to be long lasting. I am a convert. Monica has been doing my hair now for about 3 years and she is simply brilliant. Thank you Monica! Pros: The best haircut you will ever have Cons: Parking more

Let Monica Help Create Your New Look 2/19/2010

I went to Monica at Fada based on the recommendation of two friends who had transforming haircuts by Monica. I am a working mom who bikes and loves a low maintenance cut. Thanks to Monica, I went from my usual boring bob to a fun, edgy look that is still easy to care for (and works with a bike helmet). I highly recommend her if you need someone else with vision and you aren't afraid of a completely new cut. Pros: Monica Has Vision more

Change of hair life 12/18/2009

Fada Salon has changed my hair life. I am a 53 year old realtor. My hair is naturally curly and I have always just left it alone. Wash, shake, scrunch and I’m good to go. I started coloring to get rid of the gray around 10 years ago. I have tried to match my natural color and as life tends to move fast, have not given much thought to who or how I color, just how often. My choice of salons had only to do with being close to home. The products used were not a concern at first. Then my hair started to suffer. Frizzy and dry, my hair was bleached out on the ends. I was not happy. My sister had been going to Danielle at Fada for her hair and shortly after she started, she treated me to a visit. I could not believe how pampered I felt. My hair was completely different after Danielle was finished with me. It felt thicker, was curling perfectly and was an even color, worlds apart from what I had been settling for. I love what she does each time I go in. She started me on the Bumble and Bumble product line for damaged hair and that makes all the difference between visits. Fada is the perfect match for me and Danielle is the best! I would recommend Fada as a great match for anyone looking to restore health and beauty to their hair. Pros: great caring staff, great product lines, Cons: nothing I can think of... more

PAUL R. is AWESOME 7/18/2009

I have been getting my hair cut by Paul for 6 years and he never disappoints. I usually give a general description of what I want and it always turns out great. He uses the razor on my pin-straight Asian hair and it looks awesome every time. Pros: Service, location & price more

Monica She is the Best!!! 6/26/2009

I received the most amazing hair cut from Monica. This sophisticated European girl is not just a hair stylist but a truly amazing hair artist. I have learned that she used to live in Paris and she learned her skills working at high-end hair salon in Paris for several years. Monica is so down-to-earth, polite and attentive and each time I see her, I genuinely felt that she cared about me. She really made me feel special. I truly believe that she is one of the few stylists out there that can just look at you and knows exactly what style looks good on you. She will listen to how you want your hair done but if you really want a fantastic work done on your hair, don’t be afraid, let her do her work and prepare to be surprised!!!\r \r more

NYC girl gives review: Great cut, great vibe!! 6/11/2009

Love this salon. Love the staff. Repeat: LOVE THE STAFF! Sheila Rae at the front desk; awesome, knowledgeable, never loses her cool. Knows who I am the moment I walk in the door. Thank you, Sheila Rae for this. It's the first impression that gets me every time, and she got me, hook line and sinker. All of the assistants are considerate, talented, hardworking, and they too remember who I am when I walk through the door. Man they are good! So, I was referred to Paul by a co-worker who knows how particular I am about my hair (as most of you reading this are). I have long, thick hair, and like to keep it that way. I am not into having a hairdresser talk me into cutting my length off ""just because"" (you long haired girls know what I am talking about!). I moved to Portland a year ago from NYC, and honestly was nervous about finding a good hairdresser. However, upon meeting Paul my nerves were immediately put at ease. Not only did he listen to me, and suggest the right cut for my face and frame, he is extremely talented at his craft. He consistently gives me a great cut, including most recently my newly added bangs (which I LOVE)!! Note: complimentary Paul is thorough and efficient. And did I mention how cool he is? You can definitely anticipate a great conversation while in his chair. I actually find myself wishing I could stay and hang out after my haircut! If you're in search of a new salon, go to Fada, and ask to see Paul!! You will not be disappointed! Pros: Unpretentious and great hair delivered! Cons: I have to leave after my appointment! more

Fantastic Hairstylists 2/5/2009

I saw Fada's beautiful hair styling work at a charity event, the stylists donated their time and skills to a Dress for Success fashion show (and also donated products and a gift certificate as door prizes). I got a card and then made an appointment and saw Monica. Monica knew more about my hair than I did, instantaneously! I was getting several inches cut off, to donate, and Monica was familiar with the process and had done hair donations before. Monica then took time to study my face and came up with a terrific hair style, easy to wash and go or do up pretty, and one that would look good as my hair grows out again. I was thrilled with the result, and now several weeks later am still thrilled with the result. Monica was terrific, and I will be going back to her for sure. I'm sure all the stylists are terrific because I saw their work at the charity event. Pros: great hair stylists more

Fada Salon 10/27/2008

If you want a great cut and great customer service then Fada Salon in the place to be. The service begins when you step into the salon. The staff is personable and friendly and make a connection right away. Even when I just go to the salon to get hair product, they remember me by name without looking it up on the computer. My daughter goes to the salon before special occasions and they always make sure that her hair and make-up match the type of dress she will be wearing. As for the hair stylists, I trust them completely. There are times that I know exactly what type of cut I want and other times I tell them I need a change and to ""have their way with me."" They have never failed to send my on my way looking stunning. When the style is new they spend time teaching me what products to use, how to use them and what I need to do to repeat the style so that I continue to look great even after a couple of months. This is a top of the line salon, I wouldn't go anywhere else. Pros: Location, Talented Staff, Outstanding Service more

Beautiful surroundings and style to boot... 10/23/2008

I recently went to Fada's new location for a hair style after growing my hair out for 3 years. I went with a desire to get a great style that was contemporary, low-maintenance, and smashing. I got what I paid for! The service was fantastic and the staff listened to what I wanted. I got a great color job, a wonderful cut from Danielle, and came out looking 10 years younger (according to my daughter and co-workers). They even donated my surplus hair to Locks of Love for me. The location was great--on Broadway just a block down from Pioneer Courthouse Square and Nordstroms's in the Charles F. Berg Building. The new salon design was chic. The best thing: I can maintain my hair without a lot of effort and I have many options for styles. Frankly, I don't like to spend a lot of time on my hair--or a lot of products. But this cut allows me to be fussy or not. I would recommend Fada to anyone. I received a style that was just what I wanted. I would definately go back and trust them again. Pros: Location, ambience, service, experience more

Get The Royal Treatment and a Great Value!!! 10/23/2008

From the time I walked off of the elevator onto the fourth floor of the Charles F. Berg Building, I knew I was in the hands of a team of stylists that take their work and their quality of service seriously. Owned by Portland styling mavens Fahti and Danielle, this salon feels light, open, airy and comfortable. \r \r Front desk service was cordial and competent. The capable and sweet head receptionist, Sarah, did not need to peek at the calendar to guess my name correctly. I was outfitted with a custom-made gown and a drink before I knew it. \r \r Once settled, Nicole's color service included a comprehensive interview, and the result showed that she had both listened closely to my wishes, and that she had the ability to create something over and above expectation. \r \r My experience was finished off with a cut by Danielle, who seems to do her best work when she gets lost in the task. Shears flying, Danielle created a look and a shape that is comfortable, versatile, and looks great, even while growing out. \r \r Overall, I found the entire staff to be warm and personable. My cut and color are almost two months old, and I can still work with it. While the prices weren't the lowest around, it is certainly a good value, as I would have had to go in for a second service by now if it wasn't for the capable work of the Fada ownership and staff. That is the true test of good hair service, and they passed with flying colors (and cuts)!!! Pros: Thoughtful design, service, and a comfortable experience more

Not anything you couldn't get anywhere else 10/13/2008

First things first, the customer service was pushy more than anything, you can only hear ""my pleasure"" so many times in one sitting before you want to rip your hair out before it's even done. I previously had a makeup trial with the old makeup artist, which I was very happy with, and when I came back for the day of, they informed me she was no longer there, and I was completely disgusted and unsatisfied with the woman who did my makeup for the day of, she was HORRIBLE. They also had an apprentice running around who looked like she was on something and hadn't slept in weeks. I would rather go somewhere with better communication, employees who are sober, and services worth my time and money. Pros: Location Cons: Everything Else more

Only if you like spending all day waiting 6/18/2008

I waited over an hour past my appointment time and paid $85 for a haircut that was no better than any I could have gotten anyplace else. The owner, who cut my hair, was totally unapologetic and barely said two words during my service. When she did talk, it was to order her poor, frazzled assistant around. There's much better out there. Pros: Extremely nice front desk person (the tattooed one) Cons: parking, waiting, waiting, high prices more

I used to fly to San Diego to get my hair done! 4/21/2008

After moving here, I continued to fly to San Diego to get my hair done for almost a year. There was NO WAY I was going to take any chances. As a professional speaker, I can't afford to have my hair screwed up. I asked around the prettiest women I knew who had the best coiffes, and a gorgeous woman at an upscale clothier in Portland said to try Fada. Based on your type of hair, Sarah will set you up with the stylist best suited to make you look fabulous! They have specialists in color, curly hair, short hair, you name it. My particular cut is short, with two colors woven in. My husband says I've never looked better. He is totally in love with my new look. I get compliments all the time. These people are not hair stylists; they are artists, and your hair is the luscious medium they lovingly use to express themselves, based on what you want. The family at Fada is artistic, fresh, and passionate about excellence. Totally committed to customer service, I frequently use them as an example on how to interface with customers when i speak about customer service to my audiences. They use only the best products. They are so friendly they'll make you family on the first visit. I get tea, hugs, and can you beat that?!!\r I hope you get the opportunity to try them out. Tell them Julia sent you! more

Highly recommend FADA Salon!! 4/17/2008

It is quite funny because my good friend is getting married in the middle of May and was looking for a place to get her hair done for the wedding. I was searching and searching for a place to get her a gift certificate for Christmas and found FADA. I went in and saw the salon and the staff was super friendly. I ended up leaving with a gift certificate and gave to my friend. She has now gone twice and has had Nicole do her hair both times. My friend kept ranting and raving on how much she loved Nicole and what a great job she did to her hair. She has very thick and curly hair and was getting enough volume from previous cuts and Nicole provided that for her. \r \r I have not had my hair cut (besides being trimmed) in over 6 years. I have been growing it out to donate to Locks of Love, as my mother passed away from cancer. I ended up taking my friend's recommendation and seeing Nicole. She completely listened to what I wanted and styled it beautifully!! I absolutely love it! It is quite a load off and I don't even miss the 12""!!\r \r Thanks Nicole!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Great stylist that listens and cares about her clients!! Cost was great too! Cons: Possibly location - but will not hinder be to go again. more

Great service and hair 2/19/2008

Amazing job on my hair and to top it off....great service! I didn't think it was possible to have both, but I have had my hair cut and colored three times now and everytime I have a flawless visit! My appointments started on time and I never felt rushed like I have at other salon's. Overall I think I have found my new favorite place for all my hair needs! Caroline does an amazing job with Color and J Marie with the cut! Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Love to see a location around Beaverton more

Look and feel like a million bucks!!! 2/19/2008

I have been going to FADA since it opened and I have always had great customer service. I spend a lot of time in salon's between getting my hair cut and colored, nails done and different facial services (waxing) so I know a great salon when I see one! I always receive a big smile and all my requests are met with a ""my pleasure"". \r My hair always looks amazing after a visit to FADA. I work in a gym and I always receive compliments regarding my cut and color. I love how they work with my natural look instead of trying to make me look like the latest trend. Pros: Professional and polite staff. Cons: Can't think of one more

Fabulous hair, customer service, caring people 2/19/2008

I have been a customer of Danielle's, at FADA Salon ,f or 20+ years. I can recommend her as one of the best stylists anywhere. Professional, perfectionist, innovative, artistic with a focus on service excellence are just a few words to describe Danielle's work. The professionals at FADA Salon give a personal touch to every client. I have been a customer of Fada Salon long enough to appreciate the talented team Fahti and Danielle have put together. Every stylist, colorist, and receptionist at FADA strive to make your overall experience the best and that you will only want to return for all your future hair care. You will feel well taken care of from the moment you arrive. I have referred many friends and co-workers to FADA and they have all loved their hair and their experience. I have only high praise and appreciation for everyone at FADA Salon. Pros: Professional, great service, creative stylists-some of the best in the profession Cons: downtown parking more
