Best

If you havent been to Eulogy you are missing a fantastic piece of Philadelphia. The food is excellent, the service is immediate and the beer list speaks for itself. I am a regular...

Worst

I'VE BEEN TO EULOGY BEFORE FOR BEERS BUT WENT ON WED, NIGHT WITH MY FAMILY FOR DINNER. WE HAD A PARTY OF 7 AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY IT WAS THE WORST SERVICE I EVER HAD AT ANY RESTAU...

Beer yes, food no. 1/2/2006

Around Old City you need to know where to go to get a good beer selection. There are so many clubs and such, the old belgian tavern or pub is needed. This place does well for that. It doesn't, however, really have great food. I went one night... and at 1am the fries were GREAT. The next time... for dinner at about 9p, the mussels were half un-cooked and the fries were disgusting. I was highly disappointed. Living only 2 blocks from here, I thought we found a great place... but now we are sticking to Race St. for some delicious beers, foods, and a great atmosphere. We will go to Eulogy specifically for the beer menu... when we need something different. You should try it, but don't go for dinner... maybe just go for food to snack on. more

bad experience 9/29/2005

I went here once. It was a summer weekend morning and I had some friends down from New York. One wanted Belgian beer and I wanted a Bloody Mary. We initially went to Monk’s, but there was no place to sit, so we came here. My friend was dismayed that they didn’t have Chamais on tap. I was dismayed by the bloody mary which was half Tabasco sauce with the other half being canned tomato juice. Neither of us enjoyed ourselves and we left as soon as we could. Perhaps we had unrealistic expectations and they do other things better or it was an inexperienced bartender because it was so early. more

Huge beer list! 9/13/2005

Eulogy has a massive four page (tiny print) beer list. This is probably the main reason to go there. The food menu is pretty small, and there isn't much seating downstairs. Also, service is really slow - it took quite a while to even get to place our order, and even longer to get our food. The steak sandwich was good, but I wasn't thrilled with the burger, although my friend liked it. I didn't like the way the meat was spiced. The mustard dipping sauce for the fries was great, though! more

Possibly the Best Belgian Bar in Philly 8/17/2005

Eulogy is a Belgian tavern in Old City that has a beer menu that is a good 4 pages long including all beers from the common to the obscure, specializing in Belgian beers. However, if you order one of the 10 major domestic beers on their well over a hundred item beer menu your server may mock you. The atmosphere is dark and comforting with tables upstairs shaped like coffins. It is also a good place to take groups as the back room can accomodate a good dozen people - but it can get crowded especially on the weekends. The menu is limited but includes bar food classics like burgers and chicken sandwiches as well as Belgian staples like mussels and steak fries. The food is good (perhaps less good than Monk's) but the beer, location, and atmosphere make it worth a visit anytime. more

Editorial
  • In Short
Belgian-owned spot delivers two ingredients missing from the glam and hype of Old City's nightlife scene: good beer and relatively down-to-earth people. Folks on both sides of the bar are more VH1 than MTV--even if one of the owners is Glen from "The Real World." The more than 300 draught and bottled international brews provide patrons with ample sipping options. The bar's specialty Belgian twiced-fried fries complement the homemade hamburger and sirloin steak sandwich.
