So glad to have it in my 'hood' 8/10/2009

I moved to the South End about a year ago and discovered this jewel was around the corner from my home. I was a little nervous to try a new place at first, but am SO glad I did. I will never go to another spa in Boston again! Randy is a massage wizard - I have never had a better massage, and I have had plenty of them all over the US and other countries. Their Estheticians are fantastic as well - I usually just book whomever is available, although I have to say.... Dena gives the best bikini wax - doesn't even hurt (ok, a little, but nothing compared to what it could!). They are all so warm and fuzzy - I always leave with a smile! I am so proud to be able to support a neighborhood business like this - and so happy I walked into their doors a year ago! Pros: Warm, friendly, accomodating and fantastic staff Cons: none more

Love this place !!!! 4/25/2009

My second massage E-V-E-R and the best ever! I booked double appointments for me and my best friend who came up from Florida, they were ready when we arrived, the atmosphere is calming and the bodywork was amzing. Randy was perfect in her demeanor and the magical use of her hands reigned supreme. My friend had Jason and he did something to her ears that she has been unable to stop talking about since. She has had many massages before and she admits that it was the best she has ever had. It was worth the 135 for an hour and a half ( a half hour of foot reflexology!!) AND I booked another for next month !!! Thank you Randy!! Pros: The staff are amazingly attentive more

The owner not so great, but love the rest of stafff 4/22/2009

The first time I went to Etant I enjoyed the best facial ever. My 2nd experience not so great...I live about 45 minutes away and drove myself the 2nd time... I called and let the receptionist know that I had trouble finding my way back... she seemed to be very nice and understanding. She called me back and told me that they were going to forfeit my spot and also still charge me. I asked to speak to the owner he was very rude and dismissive. Not the best experience, but the clinicians are the best! I lost out on almost 100 dollars... they could have handled this better. If they did not have my certificate already they would not have been able to take my money. Pros: Great facials, relaxing Cons: The Owner more

I recently moved to the area and needed to find a new waxer. I found Allison when i googled Best of Boston so I decided to give her a try. Allison gave me a brazilian wax and a brow wax. My brows have never looked better! She had me grow them out to be more even and now that they are I get so many compliments. The brazilian wax was so quick and virtually painless. She made me feel comfortable as well. Anyone who is looking for a great esthetician should definately go see Allison at Etant!! Pros: The staff and atmosphere was extremely welcoming Cons: None more

The Best in Boston 8/5/2008

I take my wife for a spa treatment and massage for our anniversary and for her birthday every year. We dad gone to a couple different spas in Back Bay for years in which the last couple times we didn't have the best experiences. Etant came highly recommended to me by a colleague, so I thought I would give it a try. Why not, right? My colleague didn't talk it up highly enough. Our experience exceeded both myself and my wife's expectations. In my opinion most higher end spas in downtown Boston give a great massage, facial, treatments, etc. That's a give in - It's what they do! The aspects that made Etant so spectcular was the atmosphere, the services, and the staff. We almost felt like we were in our own home - that's how comfortable we felt. Spa's can be a bit stuffy and pretensious, but I didn't get that sense here. My sense was they wanted to make me feel more comfortable then over the top pampered and in my opinion comfort is the best pampering one can get. I want to thank the staff at Etant and looking forward to seeing each of you again!!! By the way, I am a bit shocked about the last posting considering what myself and everyone else has to say. Maybe you should go to Newbury and you will get a high dose of "fake" people. Cheers! more

Owner is very fake 7/7/2008

Although the massage therapists were adequate. I got the feeling that the owner was very fake and very annoying. He pretended that he was interested in my well-being, but was only interested in my money. I would go somewhere else and would not spend any more time or money at this establishment!! more

Best massage hands down! 4/5/2008

I too chose this place because of the reviews. As a day spa owner in CT, I feel I am pretty good judge of character. The decor is warm and comfortable. O.k, let's talk about the massage. I had Matt, my friend had Ryan. Matt is a master of his craft. I enjoyed 90 minutes of complete perfection. Also, the massage table was so comfortable because of the foam egg crates, I went and bought them for my own spa. My friend said Ryan was a slow start but started to get in to it towards the end. My only complaint if I had to find one is that they do not have a place to change into a robe. You change in the massage room. This is inconvenient if you book a facial too. You would have to get dressed to switch rooms only to get undressed again. Other than that, I can't wait to go back. They truly contributed to a great weekend. Pros: Excellent massage services Cons: No changing area more

Extremely friendly, low key and professional 2/17/2008

I just came back from a fun weekend in Boston which included a body treatment at Etant. I choose this spa based on reviews and it was great . The staff are very friendly, professional and there is no attitude present! If you are looking for a variety of services in a friendly place with great enery, I highly recommmend Etant! rhbm Pros: Comfortable Cons: none more

Best facial EVER 3/31/2007

I have been to virtually every spa on Newbury over the last few years looking for a great facial with limited success. I went to Etant based on the reviews on Citysearch and was really pleasantly surprised. The staff is incredibly friendly without an ounce of pretention or attitude. I felt welcome there like at an old friend's home. When I went back for my facial, the aesthetician explained all the steps she would go through so I knew what was happening. The extractions were gentle, the products seemed superb and the accompanying massage was amazing. After the facial, she brought me a bottle of water and sincerely thanked me for coming. I left with beautiful glowing skin, feeling completely relaxed and like a truly valued customer. I cannot wait to go back. Pros: Wonderful staff, fabulous facial treatment Cons: Waiting room does not feel luxurious (if you care, which I don't) more

Treat Yourself 1/26/2007

I have been rewarding myself with visits to Etant every two months or so for a while now. Personally, I think that a visit to a spa should make you feel as relaxed and welcome as possible...and does not involve the pretense that tends to accompany many of the "high end" spas. The staff at Etant make you feel like an old friend and go out of the way to make your visit a deserved experience. The newly rennovated space, with its warm hues, makes it all too easy to relax. (I have found myself sleeping during many a facial.) Not once have I been coerced after a treatment into purchasing hundreds of dollars worth of products. Instead, the staff asks pointed questions and makes great recommendations on products that can be found at a variety of places including your local CVS. If your best friend owned a spa, it would feel like this. Pros: Relaxing Atmosphere, Friendly Staff, Amazing Procedures Cons: None more

Professional yet human 12/29/2006

I am usually turned off by "spas," as I think of them as places where high maintenance princesses spend their unworking life. I've apparently seen one too many L.A. movies, because Etant strikes me as what a spa *should* be. I went for a massage to treat a shoulder injury - I was looking for a professional treatment . I got it at Etant. Carrie was very knowledgeable about the body, and still very friendly and funny to chat with. Little touches like Halloween candy on the desk and outdoorsy magazines... All of the staff are professional, yet very welcoming and unpretentious. My boyfriend bought me a package for Christmas and I'm betting that the facials and paraffin treatments I've called froufrou in the past will be handled with professionalism - and humor - at Etant. more

Spoil Yourself! Really, go for it! 12/4/2006

This was a treat for me and my girlfriend on our 1-year anniversary and I couldn't have asked for a better present. We did an hour-long couples massage that was just perfect. Before starting I told her that I keep most of my tension in my neck and shoulders, so she spent a lot of time in that area, which felt fantastic. The atmosphere of the place is very relaxing - you wouldn't think it was that tranquil since it is on a busy street, but once inside, you feel relaxed, and the staff treats you like kings and queens. To say that they know what they are doing is an understatement, as you can't help but feel relaxed in their knowledgeable and experienced hands. We look forward to going back again and again! Pros: Great massage in a relaxing atmosphere Cons: None more

More Than A Spa 1/12/2003

Etant is so much more than a spa it is a healing center. From the moment I walked in the door I felt welcomed, safe and appreciated. There is absolutely no pretention. I called for a facial appointment at the last minute on a Friday night and the staff made a great effort to accomodate my needs. The quality of the facial was supurb and my skin has never looked better! I highly recommend the Etant experience to anyone who is seeking a place to nurture their spirit. Pros: Comfortable, Good Value Cons: Poor Parking more

Total TLC 8/28/2002

  • The Scene
The level of serenity inside Etant (French for "being") contrasts with the steady commotion outside on Tremont Street. Focusing on consonance of mind and body, the spa operates opposite of Newbury Street's chichi spas, drawing customers more concerned with wellness than pampering. That's not to say that pampering isn't on the agenda--relaxing is effortless in the softly lit treatment rooms. Expertly trained staffers exude warmth and are the friendliest in town.

    The Services
Body treatments like mud therapy and salt scrubs renew the skin, while a soybean facial is packed with vitamins to renew and refresh. Reflexology, ear candling and acupuncture are popular treatments, but for a unique experience, opt for the personal energetic alignment: This combination of light touch, Reiki and polarity therapy aligns the body's energy systems, promoting balance and inner peace. Indulge in a glorious, hour-long duet massage (four hands are better than two), or share the experience with someone special.
