The entrees do not come with a side, so my date and I ordered 1 steak to share and 3 sides. There was a $5 split plate charge, and all that included was an extra empty plate. I ...

Amazing atmosphere, gracious owners! 3/5/2012

My husband is in the Air National Guard. For our last date night out, we went to our favorite restaurant, Erte. The food is incredible and the atmosphere is relaxing and romantic. We ordered a couple appetizers (the shrimp is amazing) and our favorite top shelf drinks. When asked if we were ready to order dinner, we requested a couple more drinks and I told the server: ""this is our last date night for a while, my husband is deploying to Afghanistan, would you mind if we just relaxed and enjoyed our time?"" They very happily obliged. After we ordered, ate our amazing dinner, and spent some much needed time, the server asked if we wanted dessert. We were full and declined. Then she said: ""your dinner is on us. My parents own this place and they would like to pay for your dinner and thank you for your service."" Needles to say, we were blown away! It was so refreshing for us to have had our moment and for a very high scale restaurant to cover our expenses to offer thanks to one person of many who are serving our country. We will never be able to thank them enough. Please support a wonderful restaurant with great food and gracious owners. more

Amazing Food & Service! 3/13/2011

We were here for our anniversary - most in our party ordered steak in one form or another & everyone really liked it! \r \r Our waitress was so friendly & helpful with suggestions from the wine to the choice of steak to order. \r \r We will definitely be going here again! more

Fire the Waitress 1/31/2011

The food was ok but more than anything there was this short haired blonde waitress that was such a RUDE, B***H! The lovely woman that seated us was awesome & we wanted to keep her but the Blonde, Sadie I think her name was, IS the main reason my friends & I will NOT be back!! Aside from her, the steak was undercooked & wasn't too impressed wih the sides either. We ended up wanting to eat elsewhere afterwards and would be willing to give another try if Sadie wouldn't have left a bad taste in our mouth! more

Will definitely be going back 9/29/2008

My husband and I had our first visit Friday night and it won't be our last. We started with apps, the shrimp cocktail and crabcakes were wonderful. The walleye I had for my entree covered the entire length of my dinner plate and was very tasty, I also sampled my hubby's filet mignon and was equally impressed with the taste and the portion size. The sauces served with both the appetizers and entrees were fresh and a great enhancement to what they were served with. We thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of our night out. Our server was prompt and very courteous; he answered all of our questions and met all of our ""demands"". The band was a nice addition to the atmosphere and we were able to converse with no problem while they played. Pros: Excellent service in a great atmosphere Cons: Go early for good parking more

Atmosphere, food and service all in one place 8/4/2008

We went there this past Saturday evening for our monthly dinner gathering with friends, 6 total, and we were not disappointed. I have read so many things about Erte that it was time to find out for myself. Our server was very friendly and yes, she did have tatoos , but who cares when you are a genuinely nice person. I have met plenty of tatoo-less bitches in my life! She made suggestions for food and wine and we enjoyed everything. Food is reasonably priced and so are the drinks. The place does not look like much on the outisde but very eclectic on the inside. Very comfortable atmosphere. There were 2 very small drawbacks; it does get warm in there when it is crowded. The server even admitted that it is in need of better air flow. And the band that played, although very nice, soft jazz, was a bit too loud to have table conversation without raising your voices a tad. But when you have atmosphere, food and service at a high level, little things shouldn't ruin your evening. Pros: price, service, menu selection Cons: a bit warm when crowded, music could be quieter more

Great food, great service 6/7/2008

My hubby and I went here for a date night before seeing a show at the Ritz theater just down the street. Although it took our waitress, Barb, a little long (more than 5, but less than 10 minutes) to get to our table, once she was there, she was great. I asked a number of questions about the available wines, and ending up going with her suggestion, which was their house white - a nice middle of the road chardonnay. My husband is a beer snob and was very impressed with the beer selection.\r We ordered the erte platter to start, which is a nice plate of cheeses, bread, fruit and a to-die-for chutney. Barb actually brought the chef out to the table to tell us what all went in to the slightly-sweet, slighty-spicy raspberry chutney. \r Entrees were delicious - I had the special, which was scallops with a chipotle orange glaze, and my husband had the duck. Drinks were offered and refilled on a timely basis. The live music added a little extra fun to the evening. \r Overall - great food, great service in a relaxed, yet upscale, atmosphere. Pros: great food, great service, ambiance Cons: parking may be a challenge at certain times more

Food A- , Service F 4/1/2008

My wife and I have been there on two seperate occasions in the past 6 months. Both times we were met by snotty servers. Don't plan to ask any questions or you'll just get attitute. We took my mom here on her Birthday - she asked the server what wine she'd recommend with the fish entree, and it was like asking a teenager to turn off their cell phone: heaps of eye-rolling and audible sighs. Mind you there were only three tables in the restaurant (went on a Monday). When the server realized it was my mothers birthday her attitude improved from ""I detest you people"" to ""now I barely tolerate you"". \r \r We only went back because we were very happy with our food the first time - so much so that we overlooked the service issues. I can personally only speak for the steaks. I had the filet mignon the first time and the ""house"" the second time and both were wonderful. The entrees look relatively uninspered, but my table-mates seemed to like them.\r \r This place has good food at good prices, but the service needs serious help. For us, the law of dimishing returns has kicked in - I doubt we'll be back anytime soon. Pros: steaks Cons: servers more

Horrifying 3/31/2008

Went there for a birthday dinner and it ended up being the worst experience we have ever had at a restaurant. The food is as good as the service! Both of us work in the industry and couldn't believe how bad this was. My friend's dish was tasteless and my steak was undercooked. Cannot find your server when you need them and when you do you get nothing but a bad attitude. I sent my steak back to be cooked more and my friend ordered something completely different. Not any better. After more bad service we asked to talk to a manager and what we got was the owner who came out yelling at us for returning her bland dish! She wouldn't listen to anything we tried to say, just kept cutting us off. The worst food and service I have ever had!! Pros: location Cons: bad service, food more

This was probably the worst meal that I have ever paid for. 3/5/2008

The staff was very friendly, but the food was awful and the menu was ridiculous: ""Cowboy Shrimp,"" and Nachos on a fine dining menu? Are you joking? Aside from the equally dumb names for their dishes the food was so below average I felt bad for the restaurant.\r I ordered a $28.00 porterhouse and received a slab of Grissel and oily au gratin potato's.\r We literally left the restaurant drove to Lunds and cooked a far superior meal for half of the cost. Pros: Nice ambiance, friendly staff Cons: Overpriced, Terrible food, terrible menu more

Great Food and Ambience 7/18/2006

There doesn't seem to be a review written for a while and Erte keeps getting better and better. My wife and I rarely go two weeks without a visit. The fish specials are consistently wonderful, the hashbrowns (we get a half order to share, which covers the entire plate), are excellent. The service can be a little un-even, but several of the servers are an absolute joy. Finally, there is live music on most Fridays and Saturdays, jazzy duos, bluesy trios and even an excellent quintet or two...Check it out - great food in an extraordinary room. more

Awesome! 12/15/2005

Everything was wonderful - the service was delightful, the steak was cooked to perfection, the wine list was very affordable with great selections. The only downside of the evening was the size of the wine glasses - a little on the small side. But everything else more than made up for that! Pros: Food, Service, Wine List Cons: Wine Glass Size more

Terrible service! 11/23/2005

Sat at a table in the bar for dinner on a Sat. night - took the server 20 minutes to come over to the table (the bar was NOT crowded), another 30 min. to get our drinks. He would walk by our table as if we were not even there! We finally just left some cash (he never came back with the bill after we requested it from additional sources, even with the bartender) and went to the Sample Room for great service and food as usual. Erte was a waste of time. Pros: decor, location Cons: service, rude staff more

disappointed 10/4/2005

We were disappointed with Erte! Two people were running the entire restaurant/bar tonight. We called last week to make reservations. Warm chardonnay and cloudy martini's. One waitress tried to handle the tables (5 seated tables). A table of four got up and left after waiting for service. The waitress mentioned bottles of wine were 1/2 price. We ordered a nice Red and were told they were out of that particular wine. She suggested an Australian Shiraz that is $7.00 retail per bottle. No thanks. We ordered a drink. We watched her tell the table next to us that they were out of their selection too. Four in our party, three ordered the pork chops, the other ordered Salmon. The thin Pork Chops came in a pool of juice, no potatoes, no veggie, nothing else. The Salmon came with green beans. The salmon was fine, nothing special. Again, disappointing. more

Good food 9/27/2005

This is a great steak place. While it is not one of the ""Big Three"" steakhouses in Minneapolis, it is good. Pricing is good. You won't drop big bucks on dinner. The au grautin potatos were a disappointment. Pros: Food, Pricing more

Love it 9/25/2005

Service must be fine-tuned yet this is a definite worthwhile visit. Cool space similar to an open-hall in days past. Awesome old school ceiling. Can get loud, and sometimes echo, but with the live music that often plays, this cuts back on customers loud chat. Food is great, reasonably priced, and valued correctly. I do enjoy the steak and the ala carte side dishes. For cocktails, the newly (somewhat) added Peacock Lounge is AWESOME! Beautiful atmosphere with live music up high. Classy establishment. more

Slap in the Face 8/25/2005

Went for a birthday celebration and it was anything but. The food was mediocre at best. People had to send back food - two for their cold and lumpy mashed potatoes; one for their supposed ""famous"" steak that was charred to the point of tasting more like Kingsford than meat. It was so noisy you could only talk to the person sitting directly next to you and this still required a megaphone in order to be understood. The real killer was the service. They only had two people working the entire dining room, so we most of our time waiting, either to order or for another drink. In fact, at one point, we were ignored so long that every water glass on the table was empty. And, at the end of this frustrating ""celebratory"" evening, they slapped us in the face by automatically charging an 18% gratuity!! Not 15%, 18%!! more

good dinner 10/23/2004

I went here on a date on a Saturday night, and it was a great time. I recommend the Midsummer Night's salad -- strawberries and brie to die for. Server was very friendly and attentive, and the live music was tasteful but not boring. Good times. Pros: friendly staff, great music, great food Cons: , crowded more

The Much-Improved Erte 10/13/2004

The Mr. and I had been here a few times earlier when we were dating. The experience was okay, not fantastic, and not horrible. The other night we were looking for a restaurant, and I found Erte in the Happenings book. We were reluctant to go since we had such mediocre prior experiences. When we got there, we were pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the staff. We were treated to wine samples until a table opened up. Once our food arrived, it was absolutely delicious. Erte has improved in my book. Pros: Bad parking, Mirrored walls Cons: , Good Service more

Northeats 3/29/2004

Erte is magic. I went recently for dinner with a friend and lucked into one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've had in awhile. Our waitress was a gem. Her recommendation of the crabcakes was spot-on. I fluffy cake with real crab and great aioli. I had the bone-in ribeye rare/medium-rare...perfect! Juicy, perfectly fatty in the right places and overall one of the better steaks I have had. My only suggestion is that the broiler be a bit hotter to melt the fat. Otherwise, perfect. I highly reccomend the hashed browns. Winelist was inexpensive and concise. Mood was upbeat and laidback. Overall a fantastic plase to share a meal. Pros: Service, Prices more

Wonderful! 2/15/2004

My boyfriend and I visited on Valentines Day 2004 and had such a wonderful time. We made reservations and we were 15 mins early and still seated right away. Our server helped us to pick a great wine to go with our steaks which were tender and cooked to perfection. The salads and sides were wonderful and the music was fun but romantic! Maybe they really stepped up the service to impress for Valentines Day but we can't wait to go back! Pros: romantic, great food, service more
