Horrible 8/25/2010

This place should be called erinies lounge. I eat everything and anything but this place is a joke. My bbq chcicken sandwich was two frozen pieces of chix from costco with salt on them. The jesters put the crumby sauce on the side. This place should close because it sucks more

Kind of grody. Don't wanna slam it because it has heritage in Ft Laudrdale. You should go once. more

This restaurant has so many memories for me both sitting at the bar and coming here when the previous owner had all these wacky sayings on the wall with a do do bird which are long gone now. The restaurant has been spruced up, the menu has been beefed up, and the food is better than ever. While they have added menu items that I never expected to see at Ernie's, I still order my favorites which are the beef or pork sandwich on their wonderful bimini bread (so thick you can hardly get your mouth around it, and the hot and satisfying conch chowder. Ernie's also has added a sweet barbque sauce but their original sauce is still served on the plate, and there is sherry and hot sauce for the chowder. Ernie's is one of the few restaurants that will remind you of Key West; conch fritters, cold beer, and key lime pie. I believe Jimmy Buffet mentions this place in one of his songs. With the improvements in the food quality this is now one of my favorite Fort Lauderdale restaurants. Plus, it's casual and reasonable to boot. more

Ernie's Bar-B-Q 3/27/2010

This is the worst restaurnt I ever visited. Makes White Castle look five-star. Why can't restaurants in South Florida make food? They need to visit restaurants in Chicago for lessons in food preparation. I ordered the pork platter. What is that thing? Chunks of sliced pork with a tasteless red sauce and a big, bland mess. I could have been eating a chocolate cake for all I knew since there was NO flavor. What is that boring Bimini bread? It is just thickly sliced white bread. Those were baked beans from a can. NEVER, EVER again. Should be put out-of-business. Cons: Everything more

LOVE BBQ 3/9/2010

We have started visiting Florida on a regular for the past 3 years. Every year we try a new out of reach restuarant. We absolutely loved the food here. The bimini bread is out of this world, the ribs were the best i have ever had, the sauce was just right and enough to soak up with my bread and more than enough of a serving. We cant wait to return in april. Pros: lots of extra sauce, homemade bread Cons: parking more

I cannot tell you how the BBQ is because I have never got passed the Conch Chowder and Smoked Fish Dip with that extraordinary Bimini Bread. The waitstaff is great and the beer is cold. That Conch Chowder was a welcome relief on that an odd blistery cold day in South Florida (43 degrees) more

This passes for barbeque? 11/3/2009

I had already tried most of the other barbeque places in Ft. Lauderdale, and wanted to experience something different. Lesson learned. The ambiance was pleasant, our waitress was friendly, and the orange cake was unique and excellent. Having said that, it was hands down the worst entree I have ever had dining out. The brisket can best be described as cold, grey, thinly cut deli meat topped with a tasteless, canned red sauce. The beans had an overpowering onion flavor, and were poorly seasoned. If trapped under a rock, I'd rather eat my own leg. Pros: Has a roof. Cons: The food. more

Under new management and owner 8/17/2009

Good food, horrible, horrible service!! 1/5/2009

Living in South Florida for most of my life, I was suprised to find out that there was such amazing food right around the corner from me that I had never tried! But by the end of my visit I realized why I had never heard much about the place. THE SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE! Pros: BBQ, Scenery, Upstairs area Cons: SERVICE more

Editorial review from Urbanspoon 11/23/2008

At the request of our friends, who had a dire need for barbecue, we went to Ernies. Ernies boasts they have been in that location since 1957. From the decor, you can tell they are right! The tables and chairs look like they are falling apart and the place looks dirty! We sat with an open mind and ordered our appetizers. Nothing too hard, we ordered the fried combo- Mozz sticks, fried mushrooms, and zucchini sticks. When they arrived, we were shocked to find out our fried mushrooms were rancid! We told the waitress, who said she had to tell the manager. Then she led me to believe that half the cost would be taken off our check and she brought more mozz sticks. \r \r Our main meal arrived. We stuck with bbq ribs. Figured that is what they do, so we ate bbq ribs and chicken. The food was tasteless! My ribs seemed like they were boiled meat without seasoning. The bbq sauce was on the side and it was horrific! It seems they only have one bbq sauce and they make it. It is like tomato juice, hot sauce, and chopped onion- and it looks and tastes like that! The bbq comes with overboiled tasteless corn.\r \r When we received our bill for near $100 we almost fell to the floor! None of us ate our food, and we felt like we had been taken for a ride! The manager never came to our table and nothing was taken off our check for the appetizer. When the waitress was questioned about that, she just put the check on the table and said I misunderstood and walked away! \r \r That place should be condemned! Instead of paying the check we should have called the Food and Drug admin or the Health Department! You live and learn.\r \r Anyone who says Ernies is good is either a backwood tourist or has his mouth wired shut! Save yourself, your stomach, and your money! Eat anyplace else! more

Yum-o 5/24/2008

I have been going to Ernie's since I was a kid. I'm now in my 30's and we go there or order in at least once a month. The BBQ beef and all the conch (salad, fritters and chowder) are delicious! more

THE Best Conch Chowder EVER anywhere. 10/5/2006

I first went to Ernie's when I was 18. I got the conch chowder. That conch chowder has remained the best I have ever had since and I am now 56. I wish I lived down there to get it all the time or if they would sell it frozen and shipped. Wonderful stuff! more

terrible ribs! 8/14/2006

The ribs here are on my top 5 list as worst ribs ever! The meat has no flavor; the sauce taste like Open Pit grocery store sauce. Also ordered the conch fritters and what a disappointment. Luckily the corn on the cob and cole slaw was not too bad. I will not be returning to Ernie's 'Bar-b-que. :( more

Should be part of your Ft Lauderdale visit 3/9/2006

Ernies is a place from the old Lauderdale days of the 60s~80's. A day where students came to Ft Lauderdale for fun, and didn'y have to impress everyone. The barbeque, and Conch Chowder is excellent. Get the Half Pork or Beef Sandwich, and a bowl of Chowder for $8.95. Good servings, Great Taste, Great Price. Possibly the best Conch Chowder that I have ever had, at least top two. The place is nothing fancy, but a friendly atmosphere. Pros: Conch Chowder, Pulled/Sliced Pork, Pulled/Sliced Beef Cons: Its 1200 M. From Ohio more

A little history 7/21/2005

I grew up in Lauderdale and Ernie's was part of it. When the old man Ernie owned the place and for years afterward you could read Ernie's tirades he had painted on the wall. He hated the goverment and the whole money system. Anyway his food was great and the beer was cold, I always had a bowl of chowder w/Sherry, and a Bar-B-Q sandwich. Though I no longer live in Lauderdale I always stop at Ernie's. It's tradition! Last time I was there all of Ernie's stuff was painted over, that was a sin. Pros: food, service, beer Cons: parking, parking, parking more

Good Conch 7/15/2005

Best conch fritters anywhere including the keys. Go for the conch fritters, the conch salad, the cold beers and sit on the roof and enjoy the view of the Harley dealership across the street. It just don't get better than Earnie's. Pros: Conch Fritters, Conch Salad, Funkiness more

dont go 2/21/2005

this was the worst ribbs i have ever had the ribbs come in a bowl and are covered in a salsa , dont even try. more

Bountiful feast 11/28/2004

After having driven by Ernie's dozens of times, finally stepped in to see what all the furvor was about. After a seemingly bottomless bowl of smoked fish dip, incredibly tender and tasty ribs and chicken accompanied by the famous bimini bread and corn on the cob, I realized I should have ventured over sooner. The service was great and the food excellent. Large portions and the sauce was good. Pros: Excellent service, Large portions, Good quality food more

Mouth Watering Delight 12/13/2003

One of the best places around. Nice menu. We have been going here for years Pros: Varied Menu, Bread, Friendly more
