Dont Pay Until After the Job is Done 4/15/2012

I told Empire (Big Apple TV Repair )my TV turned bright green then went normal, then no picture but the sound worked. At my home George wanted $70 and told me the $70 would come off the $349 to fix my problem set. I agreed. He assured me the TV could be fixed but he had to get a part in Florida. After a week I had to call him because he doesnt bother calling. He returned to my home and warned me that he put the part in (DC/DV converter) but the board wasnt reacting correctly. He powered on my TV and I can smell something burning. He said it wasnt burning it was overheating and it was a spray he used it wasnt burning. Yeah right. To make a long story short he told me he couldnt find a refurbished D- Board that I needed and he was ready to give up on repairing my TV.. I requested my $70.00 back since our agreement was $349 for him to complete the job and fix my TV. He backed out of the deal not me. Why should I pay him $70 for visiting me at my home. I could have had anyone visit me the result was the same, unrepaired TV. They later wanted to get me a new D- Board but not for the prior agreed upon price, they wanted more money. There is no reason to pay anyone for a promise, I will only pay for results. DONT PAY ANYONE UP FRONT. THERE ARE REPAIR PEOPLE THAT DO NOT CHARGE FOR HOME VISITS. ONCE YOU SEE THEY REPAIRED THE TV, THEN YOU PAY! WHY DOESNT BIG APPLE TV REPAIR HAVE AN ADDRESS ON THEIR BILL? DONT DO BUSINESS WITH ANYONE THAT WILL NOT GIVE YOU AN ADDRESS. There are many service businesses that do not charge if they do not complete the job requested. Big apple can just make house calls and iive on $70 without repairing a single TV. Two years ago I had the same TV repaired, they picked up the entire chassis and returned the following day with a repaired TV. Big Apple took two weeks and they repaired nothing. more

Called Several Repair Shops 12/12/2011

Called several repair shops I found on the internet but couldn't get anyone to come to Flushing to look at my Panasonic LCD. Finally called this company....(I have to admit I hestitated calling them after reading some bad reviews but I was desperate to get my set repaired. Luckily, I was able to get a Saturday afternoon appointment. The technician somehow fixed the set but it took him at least 4 hours. They charged me 250 dollars. I paid like 600 for the TV. Anyway, things worked out okay and the set has been working fine for the past two months. Rick \r more

Worst TV repair service known to man (or woman) 12/3/2011

DO NOT USE EMPIRE TV!!! They were happy and eager to come out to my home and charge $65 (in cash!) to ""assess"" the issues with my TV. However, they were subsequently completely unresponsive, unwilling to provide a write-up of the issue and refused to come back for the repair. There are other companies out there that are reputable -- Empire TV is not one of them. NOTE: merchant clearly is trying to escape bad reviews and has renamed their business to ""Big Apple TV"" more

Fraud!?! 10/13/2011

When my TV went out I called around and landed on Empire. The technician came out, identified the problem and replaced a part. He then offered me a steep discount if I paid in cash. A week later the part he replaced blew out as it was not the right model part. I called Empire and the same technician came back, but he denied ever taking a payment then told me he had to order the correct part. It is now almost three weeks later and neither he nor Empire will return my calls. I have left five messages on Empire's answering service. Empire won't acknowledge the payment I made nor will the technician. They apparently colluded to steal my $200. more

Saved my week off 1/25/2011

So my young children had a week long break from school during the christmas time and what a mess I expected it to be, but because their young they watch televison all day and remain scilent. Two days into that week the TV shut off and wouldn't come back on i thought go gosh the peace in my home would be gone within minutes of it turning off. I contacted Empire TV that same day got a tech to come out and do a home service, he was able to diagnose the problem and give me and estamite for the repair if its done on the spot. Being that the price is reasonable I agreed to the repair and the sound of children running about was gone, for that empire thank you!\r \r Strongly recommend this company for your televison troubles as they are reliable and quick. more

Re: Monday Night Football 12/7/2010

I was pissed that my TV went out on Sunday during the football games. I couldn't imagine somebody would come out and fix it before Monday Night Football. Not sure it was a good idea because I managed to watch my Jets get destroyed by the Patriots. Anyway, I wasn't gonna miss that game and Empire TV came through and fixed my TV. more

Lucky find 10/4/2010

I live in Riverdale, NY (The Bronx) I was about to throw out my Sony TV when it broke down a few weeks ago. It's about 15 years old...but I love it because it lasted so long. Took a stab at finding a local Bronx repair shop but no one was willing to repair the TV because it was so old. So, I called up Empire TV in Manhattan. They sent an experienced technician who really knew his stuff. I paid him about $250 to get the TV repaired. I was lucky to find them. more

Well two years later..And it's still fine! 8/30/2010

So about 2 and a half years ago i had my projection televison fixed by Empire tv. I'm glad more then ever that I picked them to do the job because now i can look forward to watching my 60 inch screen and not have to worry about any more problems for years to come.\r \r Many reason for me writing this review is because i think these guys very well deserve such and such things said about them, one plus i might add that they have is their tech's have the greatest diagnosis I have yet to see, they are very accurate when it comes to giving you a cheap and fair estimate. I compared Empire to others in their area and by picking them for the work done on my set i saved at least a lump sum of cash in my pocket.\r \r pros: Great location easy to access, reasonable to talk to, fast when they need to be( in my case over night fix)\r \r cons: well I just can't think of anything bad to say about them. more

I Really recommend these guys super nice and fast 8/28/2010

well it all started when i was watching a movie with the kids and suddenly i smell a bit of smoke and then my screen went blank( aka. TV fried on us) so i went online and put in my address and television repair and to my surprise there is one place in downtown so i call them up and mention their coupon from online (saved me 15bucks) and made an appointment for them to come and check out my problem. within two hours of the call i had a technician checking my set and giving me a pretty sweet deal on the fix, he told me to buy a new part would be 200 dollars more then him rebuilding my board and so i let him rebuild my part and its been like 5 weeks now and its a delight to have wonderful people whom work with such respect for others out there in the world. =] thanks again EMPIRE! more

Amazing People Fast And Communicate well 8/28/2010

These guys had me in full understanding of what has happened and what would happen to my television each time i called in to check up on the progress they were delightful to chat with. The tech at their main facility in 200 Hudson street was fast and giving me a accurate estimate and helped me get my television back in 4 days time! thanks a lot saved me tons of cash! more

LCD repaired and installed 8/23/2010

I had some trouble finding a repair place come out to Flatbush, Brooklyn to repair and install my 40 inch Sony LCD on a Wall Mount. It took a few days to set up an appointment but they were able to come out on a Saturday to look at my TV. The tech took a part out and came back within a week with a new part to fix the TV. He also helped install a Wall Mount. (Cost me another 30 dollars but it was worth it) Overall, I was satisfied with my service. more

Thunderstorm blew out my TV 8/20/2010

My TV blew out during a thunderstorm last week. I heard a hissing noise when I tried to turn it back on. I opened the set and tried to fix it on my own but couldn't find the right part to replace. Anyway, I called Empire TV for some guidance. They said, 'that my Hitachi TV could be repaired' for under $300. They sent a tech guy over who seemed like he knew his stuff. I think he soldered something on the main chassis and the TV started working. They charged me like $260 with a 15 dollar discount. I was happy with the result. more

Re: Got two tv's repaired at a decent price 8/12/2010

I really didn't think TV repair places still existed. I was about throw out my 3 year old Plasma when the colors were distorted. Anyway, I did a google search and found Empire. They had a guy come over to home and fix the unit.....right on the spot. I was so thrilled I referred this place to my Grandma. She has a 25 year old 'Floor Model' TV that has sentimental value. To my surprise.....Empire actually fixed this TV as well. I guess they were familiar with the old units as well. Nice job! more

Re: Repaired faster than I thought 7/18/2010

I brought in 12 year old Sony TV that was given to me as a gift from my parents. It seemed to lose power during a thunderstorm. I really didn't think that it could get fixed but I thought I'd at least get a free estimate because I didn't want to buy a new TV. So, I took my TV downtown to their main office near Canal Street. The next day I was given an estimate and told that it could be fixed within hours. To my surprise their Technician said that, 'they had the required part in their stock'. I drove back down to the office on a Saturday because parking is available on the weekends. So far, the TV has been working great. I'm glad that I didn't have to buy a new TV. Pros: Location, price, speedy service. Cons: No parking near office more

AWFUL!! 9/22/2009

Empire has to be the worst business I've dealt with in a long time, if ever. They are SO rude, never return your calls, hang up on you and refuse to give you information. I only called them b/c Philips said they were the place to have my TV fixed under warranty. After getting no answers or help I suddenly had a repair man show up at my apartment twice unscheduled. I finally was able to make an appointment and took a day off of work and they had no recollection or record of making the appointment. They are the must frustrating incompetent business out there, I don't know how they are still open. They never even fixed my TV, all they did was cause me aggravation Pros: Nothing Cons: Rude, not helpful more

Poor customer service and unresponsive 6/9/2008

I have a Magnavox TV that started acting up a month after I bought it. The TV would shut off by itself. Magnavox recommened Empire TV as a repair center for a repair under warranty. Empire made a house call 2 weeks after I contacted them - which pleased me. Since then (March 2008), Empire was supposed to make another visit to install a part. It has been two months and at least 3 appointments and Empire TV has not shown up. They do not keep to their word and have wasted hours of my time waiting for them. They are unprofessional. more

Never, Ever Use This Service 2/12/2008

This place is a rip-off. Avoid at all costs. They never return phone calls. They are not open during the hourse they advertise. They are rude on the phone and they had the nerve to try to charge the cost of the TV set they were fixing. I have filed complaints with the B. Business Bureau and the State Attorney General's office. Even worse, the rude lady who is in charge of their office -- Lisa -- refuses to give out the name of the managers. \r \r STAY AWAY FROM EMPIRE TV. THEY ARE THE PITS OF THE WORLD. THEY CANNOT BE SERIOUS. Cons: horrible customer service more

The best - and fastest - repair service 10/31/2007

My 4-year-old, 155lbs Sony Wega TV stopped working completely. After checking reviews, I contacted EmpireTV as it was the only repair service I found with any positive feedback. I am so glad I did! This was probably the best ? and fastest - customer and repair service that I have ever experienced. \r \r I submitted a request for an at-home service call and estimate via Empire?s website. 10-minutes later, they called me and scheduled a service call for 1.5 hours later. The repairmen showed up on time, identified the problem, ran out and got the necessary part, and repaired my tv ? all in less than 40 minutes. Given all the reviews I read (for any repair shop), I thought it would take weeks ? if I were lucky ? to actually have my TV working again. \r \r And they didn?t charge me the at-home service fee! I highly recommend this service.\r Pros: Super-fast service, highly knowledgable and courteous repairmen Cons: none, really more
