we met my husband's uncle at a convenience store. he complained that he couldnt breath. cashier called ambulance. i thought the responce time was much too long, but, i dont know where the dispatch place is in reference to the convenience store. but they didnt turn the lights on the ambulance on untill they were in the parking lot of the store where we were. when they finally arrived, the driver was rude to us and mr. thorpe. told him to get out of the car and get in the back of the "truck". didnt help him get out of the car. stood by and watched him fall, and yelled at him to "act right". mr thorpe said "i cant help it". when we tried to explain that he had recently been in the hospital with his heart the driver said "oh, we're familiar with mr. thorpe", sharply. he then handed his pad to my husband and said "here, hold this. the driver then picked mr. thorpe up by one shoulder, and yelled at him, again because he was unable to stand upright on his own. i, personally then got the man by the other armpit and helped him up, and the driver and i walked him to the back of the ambulance, where another emt was sitting inside. they had mr. thorpe crawl, without any assistance, into the ambulance and hoist himself up on the gurney. the woman inside the ambulance told him he needed to scoot over because he wasnt all the way in.
after we got back to mr. thorpe's residence, we were informed by his family that this was not the first time he'd been treated in this manner by this company during an emergency situation.
i have used emt services before and have never seen anything like this. this driver was not only rude, but he was very abusive, and i have to wonder if other elderly, frightened people are being treated this way.
the ambulance its self was old and looked in need of, at least, some paint.
the driver's clothes were very ill fitting, and dirty. which is very minor. but the way my husband's uncle was treated was apauling.
