If you care about good craftsmanship and professionalism, DON'T go to this place. These clowns don't give a hoot about what their work looks like and are rude and condescending when you point out the flaws in their work. \r \r I paid them to put rubber soles on the leather soles of my beloved $700 Martin Margiela tabi shoes. They are my favorite shoes and are made from very delicate leather, so I was extremely careful when I wore them and know exactly what they looked like before I took them in to this awful place. Before I took them in, I took a careful look at the shoes to catalog the wear and tear that I had left- a smudge on one toe, a small scrape on one heel, and wear on the soles.\r \r But when I got them back, they looked much worse. So much disappointment. \r \r - There was a two inch long black scratch on the top of one shoe.\r \r - An entire side of that shoe also looked like it had been rubbed with sandpaper- the gold polish on the leather was all worn. It looks like they had been sloppily grinding down the side of the new sole when they sanded the leather uppers of the shoe instead. The other shoe doesn't show signs of this kind of wear.\r \r - The new soles were badly cut to the shape of the original shoe. These are split-toe shoes, so the soles need to be shaped with a split in the toe area, too. The two rubber soles they added looked completely different in the toe area, like two different people had cut them to shape. I will upload a photo, so everyone can see what I mean. When I pointed this out to the owner, he told me that that was the best they could do. \r \r Seriously? How hard is it to trace the original sole shape on some paper and then cut two rubber soles to match the original shape? Or at the very least, to have the rubber soles match each other? Ham-handed amateurs.\r \r I had been in this place a couple times before to buy insoles and suede cleaner. They always treated me like I was inconveniencing them. I used to cut them slack because I work retail and could sympathize. If they did quality work, I would probably still cut them slack on the bad attitudes. But they do laughably shoddy work AND have terrible customer service AND are expensive. I can't wait until they go out of business. It's a shame that Byrnie Utz Hats and Gelatiamo have to share a corner with this ludicrous ""shoe repair"" shop. more

This place really deserves to go out of business. My partner took her shoes, priced retail at over $600, to them to be re-soled. When she received them, the sole-work was a complete hack job, with wear on the sides around the soles that had not been there when she had dropped off the shoes. There was a very large scratch mark across the top of the shoe that had not been there as well. She thought that she was having the shoes repaired, but they came out of this chop shop much, much worse. No refund of the $40 job was offered, and they were completely rude when confronted about the issue. DO NOT BRING YOUR SHOES HERE, if you care about them at all. And if you are looking for a place to repair your shoes, you care about them. more

Completely ruined my shoes - after being warned 10/2/2011

If I could give this moron a score lower than one I would. I suspect this company has undergone a change in ownership so buyer beware!!! I took him a $750 pair of Cucinelli shoes suede/canvas and he assured me he could clean them without any negative result. They are completely ruined. Parts of the canvas are white, part are brown and he mumbled through an inane non-explanation. The guy is a moron and unconcious. I would not trust a pair of sandals bought in Zimbabwe to this fool. more

Emerald City Shoe Repair 11/15/2010

Brought a pair of Cole Han Shoes in that had given me 12 months of service. After 12 months a hole finally wore into the sole. I brought them to Emerald City Shoe Repair and they said they could re-sole them for $65 bucks. I got the shoes back and wore them for just under 3 months...there is already a hole in the bottom!!!! I took the shoes back and the female employee at the desk basically told me tough. I know there is no warranty but they should stand by their product and support their customers who have a ""choice"" as to where they take their business. I will not be taking my shoes back to them. more

Expensive , mediocre and usually rude 1/26/2010

I have used Emerald City many times over the past 7 years, mostly because they are w/i walking distance of my home. However today was the last time I will use them , I have over looked their expensivecharges for routine repairs and surly behavior ( there is one of the three that is usually very nice) . Today was my last visit , I wanted a toe of a boot stretched and want to leave the boot tree in the boot to avoid breakdown of the leather. I was told I couldn't and if I did not ""trust them"" to care for my boot I shouldn't leave it. Mind you I was not accusing them of nor implying they are neglectful; only wanting to protect my boots from what can result from normal storage without support- that is why they make shoe and boot trees, right? I have spent alot of money in their establishment and felt This response was entirely rude and uncalled for. My last visit . There was another genltman there who had brought his shoes back ""to be redone- properly"". more
