Horrible Experience 6/25/2008

I normally go to Modern Hair Studio, but they turned me away because they only had one stylist who was backed up. (Oddly that happened to me two times.) The first time it happened, the hair studio recommended that I go to Elie Elie. The first time was an emergency. It was the Monday after my wedding and I needed to chop off about 6 inches of hair before I boarded a plane to Europe for my honeymoon. The cut was refreshingly different, but too simply for what I paid. The second time I was turned away from Modern hair Studio, I decided to go back to Elie Elie. The guy who cut my hair, Enrigue, is apparently a hair stylist for models in NY. I told him I wanted something that would work with my chubby face and would thin out my hair for the summer. He started to cut, and cut, and cut. He gave me bangs, but the final result looked nothing like the pictures we agreed on. Instead I walked out with an overblown extreme bob - all for $100. Now that's its grown out a little, it looks like I have a mullet. I can't do anything with my hair - no matter what products (paste, hair creme, moose) I put in my hair. I'm sure that kind of hair style would work on a NYC model who gets their hair cut with every gig, but not with a full time professional in DC. Both experiences were overpriced and very stiff (personality wise). I tried with both stylists to make conversation, but they were very short and focused on the job. more

Horrible Service, Horrible Hair Cut 2/1/2007

If you want rude service, an air of condescension and snobbery, and a bad hair cut, by all means, go to Elie Elie. The woman who cut my hair did not listen to anything I had to say from asking for more layers to trimming my bangs. She exhibited a level of incompetence I've only seen at Hair Cuttery. When I confronted the manager about my cut, she told me that no one had ever complained about a hair cut before. The remedy she offered? To give the rude and inept hair cutter another chance. No thank you. I would never recommend this salon to anyone. more

For all the Curly Hair Girls! 9/27/2005

If you have curly hair, and you can't quite figure out what to do with it, you should check out Elie Elie Hair Salon. It's located in Tysons Corner Mall, lower level next to Nordstrom. There are a few stylist who specialize in a cutting curly hair. The method is called "Slicing and Carving" or the "Ouidad" cut and trust me, it makes all the difference in the world. Your hair will look phenomenal. It's a bit expensive, but well worth the money to not have to deal with unruly and frizzy curls. more

Elie=Attitude 8/19/2005

I wanted to like this salon, I really did. After splurging on a special Ouidad cut with the owner and "World renowned European Master Stylist" Elie Gerdak, I wished I'd just gone to my regular stylist a Bubbles. The appointment started with Elie asking what products I generally use, so I told him what I use. He huffed, "why would you use that brand?", which turned me off - I mean, Aveda's not exactly White Rain! While he cut my hair, he talked in a foreign language as another stylist looked on - not an egregious mistake, but it felt a little cool after he'd sneered at my product choice. After the cut, which took all of 10 minutes, he put 4 different products in my hair - spritz,pomade, gel, and who knows what. When I walked out, my hair a crispy puff of sticky ringlets, it was all my husband could do not to gawk. The second I got home, I washed out all the gunk, and now my hair isn't half-bad. But buyer beware, for the extra cost of the "expert" cut you get cold service, a quick cut, and tons of gunk in your hair. more
