El Gran Burrito

I have been eating at El Gran Burrito for many years and it is worth talking about.There tacos no matter what kind you desire are made perfect proper to sit down in side or dine outside or maybe you are in a hurry and need to hit the Metro Subway there on the corner,You can also help yourself to the full Salsa Bar which includes all the carrots and radishes as well as much more.El Gran Burrito is very fast and very tasty,I just have to say that no matter what you order I hope you are as satisfied as I always was with this nice little taste of perfection from Central America. more

I remember when El Gran Burrito was just a taco truck. Now it's this building where the layout doesn't make much sense but who cares!?! Ok newbies, here's how it works and I'll teach you all you'll need to learn to order. Go to the person at the register and say a number (1-un, 2-dos, 3-tres...) followed by either burrito or taco. For example ""Un Burrito"" or ""Tres Tacos"". And then you order your drink. I recommend the Horchata (or-chat-ah). The person behind the register will give you your drink and a receipt with what you ordered. Take the receipt to the meat station and give it to one of the homies in the apron behind all the meat. That's when you tell him what kind of meat you want in your Un Burrito or Tres Tacos. I normally go with the carne asada (beef) or lengua (beef tongue) if you're into the real stuff. Carnitas (pork) is good as well. He will ask you ""para aqui o para llevar"". If you want to eat it there you respond ""Para Aqui"" (par-ah a-key) and if you want it to go you say ""Para Llevar"" (par-ah yeh-var). The guy hooks up your food then you head over to the salsa bar and top your food with sauce and other goodies. Go find a place to sit and enjoy yourself some down home food from El Gran. This place rocks. Its rockness starts when you park; it has its own parking lot (can't be said of almost anywhere else in LA), and then a nice outside seating area with tables. When you come here at 2:00 am with your (drunk) friends the place is still bumpin'. And boy, the food is good drunk-food. The place has a good vibe all around. The guys working here are maestros of Mexican food. Chimichangas are good, the burritos are good, and the nachos kick major, major behind.\r \r Anyone who would review this place negatively must be seriously, seriously missing out. If you're the type of person who doesn't like good food, or who can't say ""burrito"" in Spanish when ordering, or if you're rich and only like trendy Thai places, don't go there. more

I was only visiting L.A. for the week and my friends insisted on going to this place. It was just about the only thing open after 2am. We don't speak spanish so we had to wait for someone to help us. Finally someone came and we placed our order. All the while, the staff was laughing at us. I guess they thought it was funny. We did not feel welcome there. But our food came and we sat down. I don't think I ever had food so greasy. My rice was cold and the sour cream was not fresh. Only one of my friends finished his meal. If I ever come back to L.A., I will not go back to this place. Don't believe anyone who says this place is anything other than the greatest. They don't know what they are talking about. Go there. Go often. Order chicken nachos. Make friends with the trannies and try not to get into fights with the cholitas. Pros: nachos, atmosphere, hours, parking Cons: nothing more

i live for burritos. this is what you need to do. go to el gran burrito, get a carne asada burrito, go to the salsa bar thing, put the tomato and onion stuff to one side of the burrito, put some of the peppers and some of the cabbage/carrot stuff on the other side, and cover the whole thing with the green sauce and then a little of the red sause. get some of everything in every bite. you're gonna have a HUGE meal at this point, and you'll only have handed over 3 dollars. you will love every bite and be counting the minutes until you're hungry again so you can go back. but that won't be for a long, long time. Pros: great value, awesome salsa bar, get FED for a few dollars Cons: so much food, you'll be sad that you can't stuff anymore in at the end of your meal. more

I don't recommend this restaurant to any of my friends and especially not to tourists. Most of my friends have heard of this place, but I always persuade them to go somewhere else. The food is not good, it's very greasy, and doesn't taste or look fresh. I am not a picky eater, but I have never had a good meal here. It used to be better a few years ago, but something has definitely changed. Tourists, especially those that do not speak spanish, are not treated very well and they may have to ask for a manager to place their order. All the other reviews have already said it. This place is the real deal. There is always a line and you will not find any tourists in that line. The imposing sign in the parking lot that reads ""No Loitering, No dr*gs, No dr*g dealers"" is pretty much a tourist repellent, especially after the sun goes down.\r \r The carnitas are some of the most flavorful that I have ever tasted. The carne asada tacos are consistently good. The food is CHEAP, tasty and available at any hour.\r \r I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Very authentic Mexican food for a late night treat. The breakfast burrito was excellent and make sure to load up on the extra spicy salsa bar. The sopes, not on the menu, are very flavorful and will be made upon request. A great value. You might want to brush up on your Spanish before you go. Pros: Price, Experience, Parking more

I really can't say enough about this place....seriously! The food is great, the portions are enormous, the prices are SOOOOO cheap (Dinner for 2 = $5!) It's open 24-hours....so there's no need to try to satisfy your post-clubbing hunger with 7-11 food anymore! Really...try this place....I have yet to meet someone who didn't rave about it! If you want to experience a burrito the way millions of Latinos do throughout Central and South America, this is the place. NOT the place for a date, EGB is probably the most authentic tasting road-stand Mexican you can get in the US. Makes you feel like you've been driving through some small village at our neighbor to the south's and just stopped at a no-name place because you were so hungry and found that the people were kind and warm and the food was hot, quick and inexplicably delicious. The kind of place you hope you'll remember the directions to next time you're in these parts. This place is tops in its class. You'll be eating outside on a bench under a tent, so don't expect any creature comforts at this one. Oh, and the kicker is... you can stuff yourself with one burrito - for $2.50! 'Nuff said.
