GREAT PLACE!!! EVEN BETTER MARIACHI!! 2/22/2012

Has anyone been here lately?? Well I was and I LOVED it!! I went with the family and they too enjoyed it! I was there on Sunday, The Placita is always a great place to be on a Sunday, always so much going on. Well we all decided to go to El Paseo. What drew us in was the Mariachi!! They were phenomenal!! What I liked best was that they play for you at no charge!! Not like other mariachis that charge $10 per song!! They play for FREE!!! Always a plus!! I had the shredded beef burrito and it was delicious!! Couldn't pass on that margarita =) I really had a good time at El Paseo. Will definitely be going back to have a good meal and listen to great mariachi!! Thanks guys!! more

Tourist trap? 5/4/2008

Beware. The patio is lovely and the perfect pace for people watching. We knew the guacamole and nachos we ordered were over $10 each but when the bill came and margaritas were $20 each our good moods were over. Not nice to serve a $20 drink without warning. No wonder there are no prices on the margarita menu! Guess they pegged us as gullible tourists when we actually live across the street. Next time we'll go back to El Golondrina across the way where margaritas are $30 for a pitcher (about 4 or 5) and the price is clearly marked in the menu. more

Disappointed 4/10/2008

I was really disappointed with the food after a friend said this was the best place on Olvera Street. We ordered the Fish Taco plate and the fish tasted like it had been pre-cooked and setting there for hours and they threw it in the fryer again. The cabbage was mixed with what tasted like a store bought salad dressing, not too much history there. The tacos were really ,really dry and tasteless. The chips/salsa were ok and the rice and beans were average. The table next to us ordered the same plates and they ask to send their plates back, which what we should of done also. I dont ever send something back to the kitchen for fear of what the cook will do to our next plate, I just never go back. After walking around and smelling all the food I was really set on having a good mexican dinner, but it was not to be. Mexican food is my favorite and its what I eat the most and its not that hard to make it good, so this puzzles me. The service was good and the place is nice with outdoor seating but that all means nothing when the food is disappointing. Pros: outdoor seating on Olvera with all the history and people watching, etc Cons: below average food, above average prices more

Best Mexican food I've ever had 8/15/2007

The sopes are phenomenal and you won't find these anywhere but a truly authentic Mexican restaurant. The classic dishes are so good - real fresh cheese and meat that was just grilled. Not to mention, the margaritas are delectable - try every flavor. :) None of them overpower the taste of the margarita either. Pros: Absolutely delicious food, attentive staff Cons: Really out of the way if you're not already on Olvera St more

Food Wasn't worth it 7/18/2006

I was there about a week ago and unfortunately the food was really below average. Though we were seated promptly, as the restaurant was nearly emtpy, we didn't find the menu very exciting, mainly fast food type options. When the food came, it was mediocre, a little heavy on the lard and light on flavor. I don't recommend this one unless you want to spend a lot for a little. The value wasn't there for me. I can get enchuritos at Taco Bell and I was really after something authentic instead. Pros: on Olvera Street Cons: the food and prices more
