This is without a doubt the best Mexican food in the City of Houston. During my 28 years in the city, I experienced many Mexican restaurants. There is not a single one that compares to the quality of the food prepared at this small, family owned neighborhood establishment. It's true, you don't miss what you've got til it's gone. I no longer reside in the Houston area and suffer from sub-par mexican food in Florida. The only certainty is that upon every trip to Houston, a visit to El Gallo is at the top of the itinerary. If you have not been to El Gallo, you must give it a try. I've been going here since I was a kid. It's always nice when George greets you at the door altho he is not in much anymore but the kids have done a great job in keeping the place the same. Altho I live in dallas now i am always there on saturday nite for dinner. Ive got to have my el gallo fix and always bring home 2 quarts of the salsa. All the food is good here, the queso is great and its a nice family atmosphere. Give it a shot sometime. more

Established in 1971, the Spring Branch restaurant is located across the street from Spring Wood High School. The food is excellent and is our standard for measuring any other mexican food in town.
