This really is surprising. I love chopped liver and the vegetarian versions I've had in the past are so *not* even close. Well, it's here. I can't believe it! Go grab it before th...

Came because of Anthony Bourdain 2/23/2010

Came here because I watched an episode of No Reservations where Anthony Bourdain ordered a ilme rickey. And that's what I had too. I thought it was suppose to taste like lime plus carbonation and other fruit juice, but it just tasted like sweet soda. Pros: Quick service, decent prices Cons: Narrow entrance, limited seats more

Wow. Vegetarian at this deli? Yes! 3/23/2009

This really is surprising. I love chopped liver and the vegetarian versions I've had in the past are so *not* even close. Well, it's here. I can't believe it! Go grab it before they're out - I heard it's going to be a trial or a temp addition to the menu. Pros: Best vegeetarian chopped liver Cons: n/a more

Furry dust encrusted residue on the balsamic dispenser 12/30/2008

So we just had lunch here and it was so bad, I felt like I needed to take time out to create an account and write about my experience. Im a native New Yorker and I eat out all the time. A group of tourists were sitting near us and we felt like we had to, on behalf of all the good restaurants in the city, defend NY to try to mitigate the negative impact this craphole had on these poor innocent out of towners. Pros: The guy with the Hawaiian shirt at the register Cons: Every other aspect more

Best Pastrami Sandwhich in NYC! 6/20/2008

After reading the reviews, I decided to visit Eisenberg's, as I was craving a pastrami sandwich. Well.....this was the best pastrami sandwich I ever had, and I have been to most of the so-called ""pastrami palaces"". It wasn't too lean, nor to fatty. Just perfect! Although the decor looks like it hasn't been updated (or cleaned) since 1929, so what! I also had a vanilla egg cream and some rice pudding, which were also superb. Best of all, I?m only 5 blocks away. Thanks Citysearch! Pros: The food that I have tried was excellent, and at a great value! Cons: Old decor, not spacious, noisey more

Pipin' Hot Coffee 4/2/2006

My first visit to Eisenberg's won't be the last. I joined a couple of friends on a Monday morning before the start of a crazy work week and enjoyed pipin' hot coffee and an awesome toasted bacon-egg-cheese bagel. It's a complete throwback to a bygone era that my generation has gentrified (not that there's anything wrong with that). It's a place to enjoy the service, the food, and what it stands for... hard work and a full stomach. Looking forward to being back! Pros: Inexpensive, Friendly, Authentic Cons: Older more

Excellent chopped liver & Matzoh ball soup 2/24/2006

As a native New Yorker who now lives in Los Angeles (oy vey), every time I come home this place is a must-stop. They seem to have new management, because the quality of the food has greatly improved since my last visit. They now home-made chopped liver which is, seriously, the best I have ever had. The matzoh ball soup is still great, AND, they now have delicious flame-broiled burgers. It's always nice to have a satisfying lunch at a place that has been loved by New Yorkers long before I was born. Pros: Chopped Liver, New York Institution, New menu items more

NOT WORTH IT 1/5/2006

I went on recommedations that they have great sandwiches and even ordered the tuna melt, which Eisenburg raves to be the best. The sandwish was tasteless, below average. For the taste I could have gone to a regular deli and gotten it for 1/3 of the price they charged. I was disappointed and won't return. Pros: fast Cons: food more

The Most Bang for the Buck 9/7/2005

Pull up a seat and have a Ruben, Pastrami, or Tuna. The best sandwich shop and can be beat. The melts can't be beat and the countermen are unbelievable. Have an old fashion egg cream, but don't forget to make them use the fountain soda. A throwback to the old days of Brooklyn. The place looks like a restaurant that has been transplanted from a local neighborhood into Manhattan. Seating in the rear and have a great cheap sandwich. Can't be beat. Pros: Great food, cheap sandwiches, old fashioned egg cre more

Mmm, Pastrami 8/31/2005

I was in town from San Francisco, and found myself staring at the storefront. I just wish you could get pastrami like that in SF. more

Best place in NYC. Period 11/4/2002

Eisenberg's is the throwback to the 40's and 50's, right in midtown. This landmark, which consistently doles out excellent tuna melts and pastrami cannot be beat. They only have a few tables, but those in the know eat at the counter. I fear posting this review will bring even more people, but it's worth it. It may not be the ideal lunch spot for some, but those are people who you don't want to be around. So pull up a stool, have an egg cream and pastrami on Rye, listen to the din around you and realize again why you gotta love New York. Pros: Tuna Salad, Great employees, Pastrami Cons: Can be crowded more
