Einstein's 4/10/2006

The best thing at Einstein's is its coffee. If you are eating in rather than opting for takeout, you are better off going for coffee at Einstein's than at Starbucks. At Einstein's, you can refill your cup as many times as you wish. Einstein's bagels aren't bad, but they aren't wonderful, either. Their breakfast sandwiches are a little strange. The eggs are cooked in a microwave, and the sandwiches taste correspondingly sterile. The bagel dog (a hot dog wrapped in bagel dough) makes for a tasty and filling lunch. By the way, there never were any "Einstein brothers." This chain is based in Golden, a city not exactly known for bagels. more

Vegetarian Bagel Sandwich 3/26/2006

I had my first experience inside an Einstein Bros Bagel shop today. My family went inside for a quick lunch, and we ended up ordering two bagel sandwiches and a half dozen bagels for later. I tried both of the sandwiches, and they were both great. My husband chose to create his own bagel sandwich, and I chose the Veg Out on Sesame Bagel, which had a feta pine nut spread on it! It was very tasty with layers of tomatoes, some spicy purple (I mean red) onions, cucumbers, sprouts, and lettuce on the sesame bagel. It was plenty to eat without leaving me feeling too full. Oh, and the sandwiches came with a choice of either chips, potato salad, or fruit salad (for 50 cents extra). I chose the potato salad, and I liked the tartness of the mustard it had. I didn't see a kids menu, but I probably wouldn't have spent the money on that anyhow. Our daughter shared pieces of both our sandwiches and was fine with that. There was quite a selection of bagels to choose from, and I was surprised to see a spinach bagel there, as well as a green chile bagel, and all other sorts. As we were eating at the table next to the condiment and coffee station, my husband pointed out that Einstein Bros had a "freshly brewed iced green tea with a zip of ginseng and a touch of fruit" which they call SpontaneiTEA. That green iced tea sounds so refreshing to me that I am eager to go back just to try it out! My only criticism with this [particular] location of Einstein Bros (remember I've only been to this one) is that the seating area was small, with only 7 or 8 tables and one sitting bar with about 5 stools. It was a little crowded, and we were there during a busy hour. Also, the location of this shop is at 5th and Wadsworth, which is hard to get in and out of. But, I don't know where else I can get that many choices of bagels, or bagel sandwiches, with a vegetarian choice, even. Einstein Bros Bagels is a neat place to go for lunch, that's for sure. more
