Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum - Best Egyptian Museum Outside Egypt!!! 1/10/2006

I have visited the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and the Met in New York. I can say without reservation that the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose is second only to Cairo Museum in Egypt! There are many things that are special about this place- First is the architecture. The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum is the only Egyptian Museum housed in buildings in the Ancient Egyptian style of architecture! The only other similar museum is in Luxor Egypt. (Personally, I liked the one in San Jose better than Luxor!) The museum is home to an extensive collection of mummies and rare artifacts from different periods in Egyptian history. Among the very special pieces are a rare statue of Cleopatra, a mummy named Usermontu who is the only mummy known to have a corkscrew pin in his leg, the mummy of a little girl who died thousands of years ago and the mummies of a wide assortment of animals. There are jewelry, ceramic pieces and textiles that are simply fabulous. The is even a reproduction of an ancient Egyptian tomb that you can tour. Outside are beautiful Egyptian theme gardens with fountains and even papyrus plants from Egypt. The gift shop is fantastic with a large assortment of books, jewelry, educational toys and Egyptian gift items. This museum is a must-see in San Jose. The only place better is Egypt itself! more

Great for a one time vist for the kids 12/21/2005

I would def. take your kids here if youre in the area. Maybe for a rainy afternoon when you want to take them to somewhere more educational than a movie. However for an adult, things get boring real fast since the place is so small. You can walk through the whole thing in about an hour. There is a real mummy there which is cool. more

wow, is that real! 8/26/2005

this was a really cool place. I would definitly go there again to revies what I saw. I was really amazed to see real mummies. Its just not the same as on TV. Here you can see techtures of the stuff that was used to mummify. You can see the sizes of them. I was actually kind of surprised at some how small it was. You see all the old artifacts and stuff. you see stuff that these people used to own (and suposidly took into the afterlife.) really great experience I thougt. more

An Egyptian Museum 7/26/2005

Educational Garden incorporating elements from the ancient egyptian past in a tranquil setting...The thing that really fascinated me about thi splace is that they have arranged mummies, coffins and personal possessions in a chronological manner in faux tomb settings which is really interesting in understanding ancient egypt...amazing place to visit at least once... more
