Eddie's Italian Restaurant

I've never had a restaurant throw the side of bread in a plastic bag loose with my delivery order- i would expect it to be wrapped in foil or something- really seems liek they don't care about their food. The pizza was soggy and overall not great- the onions and bell peppers were undercooked and crunchy so they didn't have very good flavor. I won't be ordering again. more

This place is really amazing. The food is SOO good. sometimes depending on the chef the food isn't that amazing, but the majority of the time, im always stuffed beyond belief with flavorful food. The portion sized are HUGE. I usually share with my husband. When you look at the resturant from afar, it looks kind of gross because it rests in a strip mall kind of place, but smaller. Alejo's may be hard to park at, it may not be ""foofy"" enough for most LA'ers who consider ambience a category, pshaw, you can't eat decor. The pizza kicks bum because ""big brother"" won't let me say a... I don't know if it's precisely NYC style but it reminds me of both the best pizza in Queens, Brooklyn and honestly Cleveland. Perfect crust, not too thick or thin with toppings and sauce SANDWICHED b/t fresh mozzarella. The pepperoni is real, it gets greasy and crispy and YUMMY. Dear lord people its animal fat, you can process it, eat it!!! I swear this is why everyone's skin, hair and nails are so nasty out here, this place uses butter, cream, olive oil and meat. YUM.......It's clean, neighborhood blue collar friendliness must be what puts people in LA off to this place. I never felt a wait. They look AT you, say hello, seat you and GIVE YOU TIME TO ENJOY the person you're with, the menu, your feet up for the first time that day. . . . .. Alejo's serves great Italian food--large portions, authentic taste, great atmosphere. The only problem is the wait--everytime I've been, I've had to wait at least twenty minutes. This is the best Italian food I've had since moving to the west coast. Its the closest thing to a family style east-coast Italian restaurant you'll find out here... god bless 'em. The first dish I order at a new Italian restaurant: Liguine w/red clam sauce - very good here. A bit of a ""local"" flavor to the dishes - but traditional enough to rule every other place I've been to in the area. Even the bread is good. They don't serve booz though - so bring you're own and pay the corkage fee. Also, there is a perpetual 20 minute wait - you can set your watch by it. Pros: Excellent food. Went there last night. I love little dives but I thought this one might be a little too divey (is that a word?). But Im glad I want. Everything was good. There were 8 of us and we did a family style setup so everyone got to sample a little of everything with a second helping! Portions are large, lots of garlic, good stuff. You will leave this place smelling like garlic -- depending on how you feel about garlic - that may be good or bad. Their bread is delicious but many of the dishes lack originality and depth- instead of flavoring the sauces they just pour on the garlic. If you love garlic, you will enjoy the food. I have been here twice and both times the place has been absolutely packed with people and very loud. Not a good place for a date. You come for the cheap italian eats, but you are elbow to knee with the other patrons. Not a good place for people who like personal space, especially when the crying babies and wandering toddlers are added to the mix. It feels like a big family holiday dinner where you are gorging on huge platters of pastas while your third cousin twice removed yammers away in the background. This is the restaurant you go to when you and your spouse drag yourself in the door, look each other in the eye, and realize that if you're waiting for them to cook, you'll both starve first. This is our favorite Italian food restaurant in Los Angeles. Alejo's dishes are freshly prepared and have a home-made taste to them. I highly reccomend that you try this place atleast once, I reccomend the chicken picatta. All of their dishes are good however. When I saw the 9.7 rating for this restaurant, I immediately called up a friend to suggest we try it out. We both love Italian, and a 9.7 is damn impressive....or so we thought! First of all, the ""Italian"" Restaurant looks like a cheap fast food joint. The reviews warn that it isn't pretty, but I didn't expect it to be downright ghetto looking. As for the food, the pastas are just very heavily infused with garlic...and just because it has a ton of garlic, it doesn't mean it's authentic!! And forgive me, but it was rather laughable to see some people drinking a bottle of wine with their pasta in this run down looking fast food ""Italian"" joint....it's like seeing people drinking wine at the mall with their food from Sbarro. After finding Alejo's on this site and reading the reviews, I decided to take a stab at it and try it out. Wow what a deal it was. As I found to be true in other reviews, it is located in a very unique location....a strip mall next to a 7-11. But don't let that stop you. The food was GREAT and VERY affordable. This was the third restuarant I've tried off of this site and once again I was not disappointed, especially with the price. Don't let the outside fool you. It's in a strip mall and not much to look at but the food is EXCELLENT. Pastas are made fresh and they have delicious bread and great daily specials. This is a garlic lover's paradise. Service is quick and friendly, but on weekend nights you'll definitely have to wait. Parking can also be difficult. But it's definitely worth it. Finding a parking space will be painful, the wait perhaps long, and you'll take one look at this place (located in a strip mall near a 7-11) and think twice about entering but don't let the challenges keep you from entering this garlic eden. If you want to go to a place with fresh bread and accompanying garlic-infused oil for dipping, a plate of fresh hot pasta, tasty Chopped Italian salad, and good service, then Alejo's is the place for you. Oh lord, if you love garlic, you need to check out Alejo's. Sure the walls have a tacky 70's style decorations and ugly tablecloths/carpet, forget all that, you're in for some value. Before you can start eating, you'll be gazing at a dish of olive oil with loads of garlic for the bread. I once made a meal out of that and had to the main course home. I recommend the chicken parmegiana. Keep in mind, if you're on a date, you may not wanna eat here... garlic is prevalent in every dish. Give this place a shot... italian food-enthusiasts, you may not like this.... but if you're the type like me to eat italian once in a while, check out Alejo's.
