I was so greatly disappointed when Jitterbug Cafe changed hands. The new place is called "Ebb and Flow" and I think a better name would have been Flow, but that doesn't change the part about the food being sub-standard. I have eaten there 4 times since it changed ownership and twice since they changed the name. I won't be going back. They have a fantastic location...right across the street from the Guild 45th Theaters, so they are going to get a lot of people just coming out of or just going into a movie. But they can't deliver on the food. The first time I ate there after the new ownership I had a hamburger, which was really good and they weren't terrified when I asked for it to be cooked rare. And the fries were fantastic...they baked them before frying them so they had deep flavor more common to fries I have had in France. But the last time I got a burger there they had changed to just using frozen potato sticks (like everybody else) and potatoes simply do not hold up well to freezing under any circumstance. So that part was gone. Then, the last time I went there, I just wanted a bowl of soup which was served with cheap, white bread and although the broth was steaming, the veggies were cold and it tasted like they just put in a can of tomato soup and then chopped up some chicken, carrots and put in a few pieces of pasta. Terribly under-inspired...tasted bad and took forever to come. I miss the sass of the Jitterbug. I did write in an earlier review last winter to give them a chance, to see what they could do... But after giving them 4 more chances, it just isn't working. The chef/owner is a good guy...he works hard and he's nice. But he hasn't hit his stride and I fear for his success. Maybe he can figure out what his patrons want and give it to 'em. I hope so, because it's such an iconic location....22 years ago, we would wait an hour for a table. But everything changes, and ebbs and flows... Good luck to the new owner. I think you can pull it off with a little more effort.
