Terrible food and Worst Customer Service 1/8/2012

We went to this restaurant on 1/7/2012 for dinner and ordered a dish with fried scallop, squid and pork chop with garlic and red pepper. We had always ordered this dish. This time it was so spicy that it was impossible to swallow. At first, we told the waitress that it was unbearable spicy. She told us there is nothing she can do. Then we asked for the manager. The first word came out of his mouth was "This is not a refundable dish". I should clarify that I did not ask for refund, I was just telling him the fact. He didn't even offer to exchange the dish for us. Then he said that since we ordered an expensive dish. After a minute of exchange in words and asking him to try it, which he refused, he said all he could do was to take the dish back to the kitchen, scrape the pepper off the bater and "magically" make this dish not spicy. Really?!?!?. What kind of service is this? All the other dishes we ordered were also terrible. They were either tasteless or very salty. This place used to have decent food. Now it is horrible food with even worse customer service. I guess they either changed owner or chefs. Pros: null Cons: null more

good for good prices 4/2/2011

I had a very nice time at this restaurant and it was very fairly priced good p[portions.. more

Cheap lunch 6/28/2010

EOC is a standard Chinatown restaurant. You walk past the dirty fish tanks, displaying fresh fish on the way in. The dining room is made up of dingy tables, but they have white linens. Like the rest of Chinatown I don't really want to see the kitchen, but the food that comes out tastes alright. Pros: Cheap and fast for lunch Cons: Traditional Chinatown, question cleanliness more

Impressive decor, selection and quality 4/22/2010

I recently stopped by East Ocean City with a particularly fussy friend, who dislikes some of the "hole in the wall" feel of a typical Chinatown restaurant. Not so here. White tablecloths, prompt seating, complimentary starters were just a beginning of the experience here. Having ordered a selection of american and schezwan dishes, i was surprised by the quality and clearly attention of preparation of each dish. So much so, that when ordering duck, was told that they have run out. I will be back just to try that !! The prices are marginally higher than neighboring joints but the overall experience more than makes up for the premium. Pros: Great selection, decor and service Cons: None more

Don't go here...Worst customer service 2/10/2010

My friends and I visited this place on o1/31/2010. We ordered something called "Love bird fried rice". It had CHICKEN, shrimp, GREEN BEANS and bunch of other veggies. One of my friends and I ordered the dish WITHOUT CHICKEN. Pros: nothing more

Bad Service 3/9/2009

I was at your restaurant on Fridays, March 6th, 2009. It was my first time at the restaurant, the food were very good. I was so disappoint with your service. One of the waiter brought out the calculator to calculate for the tips. He demands that I have to come up 2 more dollars for tips. The total amount spent at the restaurant was $91.06 included tax. I gave out $102 in cash, and I thought that should be enough for the tips. He did not agree with the amount of tips and demand $2 dollars more. I did not know that you guys are demanding the tips to the corrected percentage. Sorry about that, usually the amount of tips are voluntary, not demanding. I feel very disappoint as I will post my review on the board so other people will be aware about the tips percentage that you are demanding. Thank you very much. We won't never come back to your restaurant again even though you have good food. It was such a bad experience for me. more

I highly recomment the Peach Farm restaurant. Pros: None Cons: Bad Service more

food was very good 8/13/2008

I was impressed by the food and service during a private party I attended at the East Ocean City Restaurant. Very nice restaurant, good atmosphere. Food was plentiful and very good. No complaints. more

STICK WITH THE SEAFOOD 5/29/2008

I had Chicken & Broccoli and it was nasty. It had fatty pieces of chicken, mushroom, sugar snap peas, carrots and broccoli. I don't know how you can call this Chicken & broccoli. The person I went with got a shrimp dish which was ok. Her dish was brought out about 10 minutes before my meal was ready. I am sorry I went to this restaurant. Pros: Shrimp was OK Cons: Service & chicken or whatever it was. more

hidden gem for lunch! 4/12/2008

wouldn't think of walking into a formal-looking "dinner restaurant" (where you'd order several dishes as in full-course dining) when all you want is a quick, casual rice-dish kind of meal. was brought in by a colleague during lunch one day and found that this place actually has lunch menu. big portion of rice/noodle dishes that start from $5.50 up. it's good for two meals (at least for me) and it even comes w/soup! great find! Pros: excellent lunch deal Cons: parking might be difficult more

Sorry to rain on everyone's parade- the positive reveiws listed here was not our experience 12/15/2007

East Ocean City was highly recommended. So we were expecting enjoyable Chinese dining. Sadly, no. Better Chinese food can be found at the food court of any mall. The service too, was spotty at best. Five of us ordered hot and sour soup, which arrived soon. The one who ordered won ton, was left waiting, served well after the others had finished theirs. Entrees too, arrived haphazardly. The first 3 arriving together, a wait, the 4th, a wait, the 5th, then about 5 minutes more, the last person who had ordered chicken and broccoli was presented beef and broccoli. When this discrepancy was noted, the waiter actually asked, "Well, wouldn't you like beef and broccoli?" more

INCREDIBLY TASTY 1/10/2007

I had lunch at East Ocean and it was wonderful. It was my first time there and surely will not be my last. I was very surprised at how good it is. The food is very fresh and incredibly tasty. My waiter recommended the lobster with ginger and scallions but I opted for the Szechuan Spicy Beef & Chicken. Really yummy! For appetizers I had Spring Rolls, which I also recommend. It is a full service chinese dining experience. I really enjoyed it. more

So fresh, so flavorful 11/27/2005

East Ocean City was a recommendation by a colleague of mine whose family has had years of experience in the Chinese food industry. This recommendation was backed by another colleague who simply stumbled upon it by accident and was pleasantly surprised. Pros: fresh seafood, well prepared dishes, attentive waitstaff Cons: not romantic, gets crowded more

A Personal Favorite 2/16/2004

East Ocean City, or EOC as it is commonly referred to, is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Boston. I have lived in Boston for five years and tested many different Chinese restaurants but still come back to EOC for it's delicious food. Among my friends and I, their "Spicy Salty Squid" is legendary because of how good it is. The service is almost always good, the atmosphere is pretty good, and the food is extremely good. I highly recommend this restaurant. Pros: Great food, Reasonably Priced, Friendly Service more

Satisfactory...I've had better 7/9/2003

The East Ocean City Restaurant is pretty good, with authentic Cantonese cuisine, but I'm not saying that this is the best. One of the bad things is they just put way too many sauces and flavor into their dishes, it's just sometimes sickening!!! If you want the best chinese food in Boston, go to Jumbo Seafood (more natural flavors, less people), they have better food, and its a lot more comfortable (even though the tables are placed too close together). Yeah, I would recommend this restaurant, but I'm not saying it's my favorite... Pros: authentic chinesefood Cons: Sometimes 2 many ppl more

Yubo 2/26/2003

Last sunday, I went there for shark fin soup with my friend. I ordered the small shark fin soup with crab meat that cost about 75 bucks, the waiter thought i was a student and might not be able to pay for that. That made me quite angry. After repetitively comfirming my order of shark fin soup and my understanding of the price, they came up with good service and food. foods were great, service had to be improved more

Authentic 1/29/2003

This is authentic family style Chinese seafood. The lobster with ginger and scallions is devine. I have been a frequent customer for many years and I have never been disapointed. Mt friends Chinese chef mother always makes a stop here when she is in town. more

This is what I crave when not in Boston! 9/18/2002

This is some of the best and freshest Chinese anywhere! I am a student in the area, and when I come back after the summers, my friends and I always get together and eat there because we missed it so much! Anytime any of us has a birthday or any occasion to go to dinner, we go to this place. The food is DELICIOUS!! The best is if you go with friends and share several dishes. Try the "pee pah" tofu (fried with great flavor and bits of shrimp)--it is wonderful and can't be found elsewhere in Chinatown. Pros: DELICIOUS, reasonably priced Cons: often crowded more
