New location is a big step down, less product and it seems like they jacked up prices on everything. I don't mind spending a little more to support local businesses, but gimme a break! If the other reviewer thought the Thorne's location was dark & foreboding, wait til you check out the underlit, unventilated record basement at the new spot. What happened to all the old employees? The ones who knew about more than punk? Fancy counter & dj booth though. Whoopee. more

Hard to find records 3/23/2006

This place has a ton of hard to find records. Some people have not yet adopted the MP3 player or the CD. I love records and this is the place to get them. They have all kinds of vintage music. If you are looking for an obscure band this is the place. I have loved Dynamite since high school and would always take the trek in town to buy and browse music. more

A must stop when in town 11/16/2005

I'll preface this by saying: 1. I love shops where I have to dig to find the best stuff. 2. I live in an area completely devoid of record stores (much less good ones) That said, whenever we're in Northampton we stop here to go through the overstuffed bins of old vinyl. The last time I visited, they were selling these 30/$10, which I found to be a great deal. You really do need to spend a lot of time looking in order to find what I consider "good stuff" but I enjoy all the time I spend at Dynamite. more

I've seen better 8/13/2005

This records store starts even outside their store. They have bins full of cheap records piled outside the door. Once you get inside, the records are crammed into bins that go all around the store. They concentrate more on vinyl, but do carry cds, with an emphasis on local groups. The prices on records always seemed a little high. What they charge 3 bucks for in is many places free/1 buck bins. However, their selection is quite large which helps to make up for the record prices. The cd prices, especially for the local discs is very reasonable. The store itself always just struck me as being a little dark and foreboding. If you need a hard to find record, try here. Otherwise save it for when you are bored. more
