Best

My little Shih Tzu, Paris, was the absolute light of my life. She was everything to me...she gave me a reason to get up in the morning and get on with my day. Paris chose to live...

Worst

Boarded my two dogs for a mere 2 days and now they are both sick and vomiting. They were fine when I dropped them off and now they are very lethargic, won't eat and have diarrhea...

I am incredibly disappointed in the service we received at Durango Animal Hospital and I would advise anyone thinking about leaving their pet at this place for boarding to read this review! \r \r My husband and I recently left our puppy for boarding in their ""luxury boarding"" for 3 nights. While everything about the luxury boarding looked great online, the reality was very different. We trusted Durango Animal Hospital to look after and take care of our puppy, but the reality seems to be the complete opposite. \r \r When I picked up my puppy on monday morning, he reeked of urine and feces. Not only that, all of his things (his bed, toys, food bowl, even his bag of treats) all reeked of the smell of urine and feces. My puppy was incredibly sad and skittish, and it seemed as though he had just been locked up in a little room all weekend. He would not eat and he even had diarrhea for two days after we picked him up. Our puppy was clearly not himself, and had clearly not been treated well at all. I had to wash all of his toys and even his bed which completely ruined it. \r \r My husband and I were so disturbed, we contacted Durango Animal Hospital on monday in order to speak with the manager to let her know of our complaints and to demand a refund. We were told the manager was no longer in the office and would call us back on tuesday. Come tuesday, still no call. We called back and were told she was at lunch and to call back in an hour. We called back in an hour and were told that she had gone home for the day. How incredibly unprofessional! We were then told that she would finally be calling us on wednesday. \r \r And so comes wednesday morning, the manager Jessica finally called back my husband. While my husband relayed his dissatisfaction with their service and demanded a refund, Jessica said that the only thing she could do was offer our puppy a free nail trim or a free bath. Why in the world would we ever trust this place or this staff with our puppy again? She refused to give us a refund and went on to read ""boarding reports"" to my husband, letting him know that our dog was fed and taken care of. Then why would he not eat for days after coming back home? Then why would he reek of urine? Why would he absolutely not be himself? \r \r We take incredibly good care of our puppy and have boarded him at other places before, but never have we gotten our puppy back in the condition that we did after leaving him at Durango Animal Hospital. We wanted people considering boarding their pets here to know how our puppy was actually treated at this place, and to know how incredibly unprofessional and unsympathetic the staff and the manager were. more

I first came to Durango Animal Hospital in October 2014 for my lil Bengal girl. She had what looked to be an abscess on her face and was in an extreme amount of pain. They pulled some infected teeth, gave her some antibiotics and told us she would be fine. 30 days later (November 2014), we were back in their office for the exact same abscess! They put a small drainage hole in the side of her face, took a sample of the infection to be analyzed to supposedly find the exact antibiotic to use, and sent her home. A couple days later, we were in their office AGAIN. This time with our other Bengal. For the same swollen abscess! The Doctor assumed that the two had gotten in a fight so again a drain was put in place, antibiotics were given (before the analysis from the sample was received), pain meds were dispensed and she was sent home. We had to make a payment arrangement as we had already paid close to $1000 in 30 days for this same problem. Guess what? 30 days later (December 2014) it appeared for a third time. Called Durango Animal Hospital and know what they told us? Because we have an outstanding balance they refused to treat her again. How can they do that?! They have now been paid close to $1200 for two cats, for the same infection, and they are still sick!!! They told my husband to put a warm compress on her face to draw out the infection (the drainage hole they had placed in her face hadn't even finished healing yet so the infection burst through). Today I used a warm compress on her face and this time a huge chunk of skin came off her face! It literally looks as though this infection is eating her skin away. My other Bengal also looks as though the infection is coming back and her face is swelling up. I can't help but think that had they waited on the results from the testing we paid for that perhaps they would have gotten the correct meds and we wouldn't be going through this AGAIN. I will be making them an appointment with another vet as it is perfectly clear that Durango Animal Hospital is more interested in making money off their patients with repeat visits for the same problem than they are with actually helping an obviously sick animal. more

THE LORD WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS! 2/1/2012

My little Shih Tzu, Paris, was the absolute light of my life. She was everything to me...she gave me a reason to get up in the morning and get on with my day. Paris chose to live with me when she was 8 weeks old and she took her last breath with me on September 1, 2011 when she was 15 1/2 years old. My life will never be the same without her! more

The best in town 9/21/2011

Whether you are coming in for yearly vaccines, boarding your dog, putting down your sick old companion or having new puppies checked out this is the best Vet office I have ever been to. We have been customers since 1997. We loved Dr. Spence and worried when he left, but I have to say that Dr. B is even more caring, sincere and just FANTASTIC!! The whole staff makes you feel welcome and treats the animals with love and affection. I would recommend this animal hospital over all others in the valley. more

Through the good times and the bad! 8/23/2011

When we first moved to Vegas 6 years ago I was really nervous about finding a new and caring vet. I went to several places and just never felt at super comfortable. In fact I even tried this animal hospital at the beginning. No place stood out at the time. Luckily for a year or so we did not need any special care except regular shots. Then Rio our chocolate lab became ill. I took her to Durango Animal Hospital over the others we had tried. I am so glad we did! Dr. Beerenstrauch and Dr. Christennsen spent many hours and days treating her and researching for us what was wrong. I think I spoke to Dr. B almost every day for about 2 months. She had a very elusive lung cancer that was untreatable. They were so caring and helped make her comfortable for the time we had left to spend with her. We also felt that for the treatment and time, the price was reasonable and we NEVER felt taken advantage of or anything of the sort. In fact I think they probably left off charges from time to time. Rio loved her days spent there with the staff and Drs. They always had hugs and kisses ready for her. We have 4 dogs now that see Dr. B on a regular basis. We think he is amazing! He never hesitates to get on the floor and pet and get kissed by our babies! I have never seen a vet more animal loving. My dobie Kirin usually gets a few dozen kissed in every time she sees him. He is very thorough and all our dogs love him! The staff is very nice although it has changed over the years everyone is professional and friendly. They have been like a family to us through the loss of two of our ""children"". Also through sickness and in health, haha! They are great! Thanks Dr. B and Durango Animal Hospital! more

I dont know where to even begin! The Durango Animal Hospital is a God Send ! Upon meeting all there during a very trying time ( I was loosing my 17 yr old Mini Pincher) The staff and Dr.Beerenstrauch (or Dr.B as most know him as) took such amazing care of her, me and our feelings involved. \r From that moment on, I knew this was the Vet,Clinic and Facility for me and any pet I would have...and I was completely correct!\r I now own a little rescue pup named Hank and he is my heart!\r I travel a lot so he is often kenneled there and I always feel such a deep comfort knowing how much they care for the animals and that they truly love them as much as we do.\r There is never a task too much, a request to burdensome or a question to basic for them to help with or give advice on.\r :) For these things, and many more is what makes them the very best and I would recommend them to anyone and their special "furry family member"\r I dont know what little Hanky or I would do with out the Durango Animal H more

Dr. Beerenstrauch & his staff are the best! I always feel so at ease when I bring my little Sheltie there. They have gone through heartaches & happy times with me. I have a letter in my desk that Dr. Beerenstrauch wrote me when I had to let my little Peppers go to heaven and I would read it everyday to help me get through the day. I still have the letter & when I see it or read it I know how lucky I am to have this wonderful Doctor in my life! more

Worst Vet 1/18/2011

I would rate this place at half at star. The front office staff are a bunch of gossiping, lazy, immature girls with no professionalism what so ever. I'm not sure they've ever been trained in customer service. The female doctors seem great, but when it comes to expecting one of the male vets to take care of your pet, good luck. They seem too consumed with flirting with the reception staff to get anything done. And if it's an emergency, you're best served going elsewhere. Lord knows they're all in it for the money and won't stay a second late to help your dying pet. more

Mistreatment of animals 8/29/2009

This last Friday after I was done with my vaccine app and was at the front desk finishing the paperwork, I was shocked to see this young male doctor walk by the door that leads to the back, holding a dog just by the skin on it's back, swinging the animal in the air while shouting profanities to the poor terrified animal while the staff acted like nothing was going on. Pros: hours Cons: the place stinks, unprofessional drs more

Amazing Vet 6/10/2009

This Vet is the best in town i was so amazed. I was reffered here by one of my close friends and they really have it together compared to the other vets that i have seen in town. It is hard to see that there are bad respones about Durango Animal Hospital have you been to other Vets in town?? I am so amazed how professional the front staff is and how helpful they all were especially Brandon and Michelle they really made an impact on my visit and i will be recommending many of my friends here from now on. The doctors were all great and i knew how much my bill was before they did any procedures! Dr. B is the best Vet in town and i dont know where my family would be without him he saved our dog! Thank you to everyone there and it was a great experience and we will be returning and sending more people your way!!! Pros: Nice, Professional, Quick, Good Hours, Everything more

Death trap 4/12/2009

Dr. Spence was an excellent doctor, he cared about his patients and their owners. He took the time to get to know his patients and went the extra mile. Once he left the practice went downhill. I left my young, healthy dog for boarding and she died under their care for no apparent reason. The doctor that called had a very poor bedside manner. If you want your pet alive, do not board your animals there! more

An Outstanding Veterinarian 10/8/2007

We couldn't ask for a more skilled and ethical vet. His staff and facilities are also top notch. We highly recommend Dr. Spence and his practice. Pros: Profesionnal, talented and compassionate staff. Cons: None. more

GREAT Vet!!! 1/2/2007

Durango Animal Hospital is a great facility and the entire staff provide both humans and pets a great service! Dr. Spence has been our vet ever since we moved to LV 3 yrs ago - and we are so lucky we found him. I heard so many horror stories about poor vets in this city, that I was really nervous about selecting someone to care for my dog since he has a lot of health problems. It was a relief to see that Dr. Spence goes above and beyond everyday to ensure the best possible care is given to all the pets who come through his doors. He takes time to get to know your pet (he was just snuggling with our new puppy today! - aww), he takes time to troubleshoot issues and he takes time to explain things and answer your questions. You couldn't ask for a more caring veterinarian. Thank you! Pros: Great service, great hours Cons: I guess it could be cleaner in the exam rooms, the floors seem dirty. more

great all the time 8/25/2006
