I've been meaning to write this review for awhile. I used Dumbo a year ago to move from my second floor walkup apartment in Midtown to a fifth floor walkup apartment in New Jersey...

Best Moving Experience!!!! 11/10/2010

As a model I move from city to city for photoshoots and learned to live out of a suite case most of my life; however I have learned to accumalte my lifes riches and keep them all in one place. After signing a contract with a modeling agency in NYC and guaranteed a safe position in the heart of the world I was finally able to bring all of belongings to one place! As you can image I was VERY excited but once I began to hear all of the horror stories from moving companies and horrible review from main stream companies I was VERY skeptical. I tried for hours making inquiring about truck rental and labor but it turns our I'd need more than that. Arranging and overseeing the move was too much for me so I was left with no other choice but to use movers. As a model I was given many expensive items such as clothing, furniture, jewelry and high end gift that's are extremely valuable to me and I had to trust someone to bring ALL of these items from update NY to about 4-6 hours away in NYC. I began visiting countless websites, review sites, bloq sites you name it I was in it! I began to get different quotes from people some of which seemed outrageous and others seemed unreal. Until my sister ( I wish I would have asked her from the beginning would have saved me a hoot hassle) suggested I try Dumbo Movers; she told me they've moved her items 3 times before and even stored her items for a little over a month. I looked them up read about them, their reviews and I was pretty pleased. I call them up and their sales rep was so fun and understanding he made my day a lot better! He even asked me about some items that I completely forgot to include to assure an accurate price. I know I may sound a little enthusiastic about this BUT I AM SO HAPPY I DID NOT PAY $1 MORE THAN WHAT I WAS QUOTED. I was overall pleased with the services from Dumbo all the way from the sales rep to the movers that showed up at my place with my items. Everything was on in one piece (thank God I did expect some items to be broken since it was a long ride and accidents do happen) BUT to my surprise everything was in one piece! I was so happy with the service that I even called Dumbo back to let them know what a great job they did! Trust me! It's really hard to trust someone with your belongings AND they provided me with a decent price that I could afford and seemed reasonable in ratio to the items I asked them to bring including distance. GO FOR DUMBO MOVERS! YOU WON'T REGRET IT! more

Smooth Move 9/1/2010

My boyfriend and I moved in together a few weeks ago and the movers (Babin, Tupten, Dejan, and Bojan), had to make 3 stops, one at my boyfriend’s apt, one at storage and one at my apt. We had a fair amount of boxes and furniture and we thought that with the number of stops and the number of items for pick-up, the move would take the whole day. However, the move, which began at 8:20am and lasted until the early afternoon, was a lot shorter than expected. Not only were the gentlemen swift, they were also extremely considerate. They made sure that our furniture was laid out and placed according to our preference and they placed the boxes in their designated rooms. All fragile items were carefully wrapped and taped; we have some glass furniture and an antique dresser and nothing was damaged. In contrast to earlier reviews, the men spoke English well are highly educated, one guy being a technical student, another a graphic designer and the other an engineer. Danny, the person who arranged the move from the office, who spoke perfect English, better English than most people in the U.S., was very helpful, efficient and knowledgeable. Bojan, the mover that handled the inventory, communicated with me about the inventory from the moment I met him to the very last minute, was direct, professional, and clear about my move and the amount of money that he needed to deduct because we did not fulfill the inventory given to Danny. As opposed to another review, the tip is not mandatory according to the contract. Before the move, I called the company to ask if the tip is mandatory and the receptionist and Danny said that it isn’t. The company suggests a 20% tip if satisfied with the move. We were more than satisfied with the Bojan, Dejan, Babin, and Tupten and we feel like they were extremely responsible, professional, careful, and personable. Thank you!!! more

Do Not Use Dumbo Moving. 8/26/2010

Unfortunately, I used them for my New York to Boston move as well. I've moved around a fair amount in the past few years and this move was by far the worst. The movers showed up hours early, finding me with things still unpacked. I figured that was okay because I had alerted the company that I might need some packing services as well (which had been included in my estimate). However, the team at my door was disgruntled that they had to do any packing at all (probably about two or three boxes worth). They literally crammed things haphazardly into boxes, resulting in the destruction of a lamp, some pieces of sculpture and one of my coats. I also realized upon arriving in Boston that several pieces of my dissembled furniture had been lost, and some of my bookshelves were broken. The cost of the move was much higher than I had been quoted and the team was generally unpleasant to deal with. more

we were robbed by these thieves! they have no listing with t 8/25/2010

we were robbed by these thieves! they have no listing with the BBB so it's not possible to file a complaint with them. just had to add to my old review of July 2008 (see below) because we are moving back to Long Beach and i asked my husband how much the disaster of a move cost us when we moved here July 1, 2008. Are you ready? - $3,800. they had all our stuff loaded on the truck and they hit us with this news! we had no choice if we wanted our furniture! have learned what they do is load the truck with stuff to add weight then take it out after to inflate the total to ""justify"" the cost! We had a sleeper sofa, stack w/d, iron & brass bed, mattress & b/spring, 2 folding screens, bookcase and antique cabinet - that's all the furniture. Many boxes & clothes and about 8 large picture boxes. THAT'S IT! Today was given an estimate today ( May 18, 2010) by Cunningham Movers in writing with all costs including 14 boxes and labor to move back to Long Beach -same distance as when we came here to SF- and estimate is $2,163. ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW: 7/28/2008 DO NO USE THEM. i have never had any moving company as bad as this one and i've moved more times than i can count. once cross country from MI to CA and stuff was in storage for 7 months and no problem. THIS MOVE WITH S.M WAS HORRIBLE! They charged way more than quoted from Long Beach CA to San Francisco and they broke the base to a $1,200 coffee table that had been through 9 moves before (yes one from MI to CA) and never a problem until this time. It was wrapped by the movers, which they charged me for (a wooden base that supports a glass top/brass trim tray top) and because it was in a box -has never been boxed before, but they insisted- it was placed in the truck and heavy boxes and other items were stacked on top of it. When i opened the box the day we moved the base was in pieces and damaged beyond repair. The mover in San Francisco said it should have never been put in a box and wrapped like that. I was given an ridiculous settlement amount and paid $155 for arbitration which decided against me because they upheld the $.60 a pound settlement offered by Super Movers. Avoid this company! Pros: NONE Cons: CHEATS more

Good job for a good price 8/16/2010

I think anyone can agree that moving is a stressful, and aggravating, activity that New Yorkers face every few years, if not every year. Your company made this process as pleasant as possible. From my call to you to a mere 5 days before my move date, to my experience with your movers on the day of the move, the two gentleman that you sent over were consummate professionals and really treated our belongings as if they were their own. Additionally, they never lost their patience or cool in spite of the fact that we were moving to a 6th floor walk-up and it was a 90 degree day.\r \r I’d really like to thank you for a job well done, and have already told several friends about the excellent service you provide for a reasonable price.\r more

Bad service all around 8/16/2010

Dumbo Moving promised a binding, one price and then after loading up our furniture in their truck demanded a higher price. \r They damaged our glass on our china hutch and promised to fix it, and never did. sent one man to unload the truck, the driver said he would go down to home depot and hire some illegal immigrants, there was none in town to hire, so my 10 year old son and myself ended up helping. more

****THIS COMPANY IS AN SCAM**** 6/7/2010

PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I MADE...THIS COMPANY IS AN SCAM..... the first thing they do before they start to move your stuff is to ask you to sing A CONTRACT.. ON THAT CONTRACT SAYS THAT YOU ARE AGREE TO PAY THE AMOUNT OF THE TIP THEY WANT...IF YOU REFUSE TO DO IT ..... They will load you stuff and on the way to the place you are moving to.. they stop the car and check and open your boxes and take stuff that.. they know you will need later on..and when you call the company's owner....""by the way his name is GUY"" .... he just made fun of you... and laugh at you.... and refuse to do or even say something to his employees... BECAUSE HE KNOWS VERY WELL WHAT IS GOING ON.....BESIDE that... they are not responsable for IKEA furniture...On top of all these THEY DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH ...SO DO NO USE THIS COMPANY..IT STINKS....I DO NOT RECOMMENDED......BE AWARE OF DUMBO MOVER'S SCAM Cons: All more

Great job! 4/19/2010

I approached the search for a moving company with some apprehension. Who hasn't heard their share of horror stories when it comes to movers? When I spoke to Simi over the phone, he was extremely professional and courteous--not in the least bit pushy. I shopped around for quotes, but everyone else was charging double. Eventually, after weighing DUMBO's price and doing some research, I went with DUMBO. \r \r It was a great decision. Simi told me the movers would arrive between 8 and 9, and they showed up at 8:40. One of the movers came upstairs to look at the apartment to make sure all the inventory was accurate, and I signed off on the contract, and immediately the three movers began wrapping and taping up our furniture and TV. They carefully moved all the boxes, and meticulously wrapped our furniture. I told the mover responsible for wrapping the furniture that the TV was my biggest priority, and he smiled and said he understood. They wrapped blankets and cardboard around each piece of furniture. They wrapped and packed everything in our apartment within an hour, and left. No fooling around and entirely professional!\r \r When they arrived at our new building, the management there gave the movers some difficulty, but the movers never complained. They kept trucking along. Our move was finished within 3 hours, and everything was in the same condition as before. Nothing was damaged. \r \r I would definitely use DUMBO again. And I strongly recommend anyone else considering a move to call up DUMBO. Pros: On time, professional, efficient, affordable more

TERRIBLE, RUDE COMPANY 4/9/2010

Horrible company, poor customer service, rude owner. I've never posted about any company or service in my 7 years living in NYC, so believe me when I say that DUMBO Moving is not a company that you want to hire for your move. This was a truly horrible experience. Pros: Inexpensive Cons: Refusal to compensate for damage, poor customer service more

cheap and great! 2/8/2010

I got quotes from about 5 moving companies that i found on citysearch. Dumbo is the only one that gave me a fixed rate and i actually paid the fixed rate even though I probably had a few extra things then originally in the quote. They came on time and worked quickly. they were careful not to scratch anything. no complaints, i would use them again. Pros: fixed rate, reliable, no problems more

TERRIBLE movers! 11/3/2009

This company came recommended highly from my broker at Douglas Elliman. He personally used them in his move earlier this year. Unfortunately, I found that the truck was extremely dirty, which made everything very dirty. In addition, bars for the wardbrobe boxes were forgotten and therefore I had only 2 wardbrobe boxes instead of 4 (as I requested). The remainder of my clothing had to go in a ""commercial bin"" which was also dirty and the clothing was put on top of and covered by extremely dirty blankets. \r To boot, it was raining that day, and I had to ask the movers to wrap up my furniture (many items are microfiber) however my 4 bar stools were not covered - and one was severly damaged. One of the movers admitted he tripped and it fell on the ground. Why wouldn't you wrap up furniture that is of delicate fabric, especially on a rainy day? I will NEVER use this company again. So much for trying to save money. Cons: dirty trucks and blankets, careless movers more

Good experience! 10/18/2009

I was very pleased with the service. I do not have expensive furniture and packed most stuff up myself but they did a great job dismantling what needed to be and reassembling the other end together with moving all my boxes. The bed was tricky to get down from my 5th floor walk up apt but they made everything look simple and easy. They procted what needed to be protected but this was just your regular crate and barrel or ikea stuff. No Louis XII chairs or grandfather clocks for me! Price was exactly what they quoted me before (+ a tip) and done in less time. Pros: Did what they said, when they said and cheap! Cons: none really - maybe not that good for super expensive stuff more

Easy Moving Experience 8/1/2009

I did a lot of research before choosing a moving company for a move from the Upper East Side to Queens. Of all the companies I contacted these were the nicest to deal with. Simmy answered all my questions, and many phone calls, always professional and pleasant. They confirmed the moving day the day before, and were exactly on time -- my uncooperative super tried to give them a difficult time, and they were professional and swiftly solved the problem. They were VERY fast, and by 1:30 in the afternoon, they were finished. In my new building, the elevator is very small, but they somehow fit even an armoire in it! It was a miracle! (They were all very cute, too!) The only negative is minor -- because they go so fast, they just pile one box upon the other and pay no attention to whether books are on top of china, so just make sure you pack your things well and there should be no problem. I definitely will use these guys again and HIGHLY recommend them. Pros: Nice, On Time, Fast Cons: Almost None more

Dumbo - true to their word! 5/4/2009

Before selecting Dumbo, i got quotes from ~8 other moving companies. I selected the ones who were most thorough/polite, and I preferred the ones with fixed rates (versus by the hour) coz less chance of hidden fees.\r \r Dumbo had the best rates by far. And til the very end, their fees remained the same. They were on-time, very careful & efficient, and treated my other neighbors (also moving) with much respect. \r \r I would highly recommend Dumbo to friends and anyone looking to move with peace of mind. :) Pros: Best rates, thorough, on-time, careful, efficient, polit Cons: Could be better at following-up day before move more

Great Moving Company 4/27/2009

We used Dumbo Movers April 24th 2009. They showed up a little earlier then our appointment which worked fine for us :). They were friendly and professional. We had three movers and all three guys did a GREAT job. I would highly recommend Dumbo to anyone and if we move again we would definitely use DUMBO MOVERS.\r \r Thank you\r Liz & Carmelo Pros: Professional Movers more

Awsome Movers ! Quick Prefessional and GREAT price. 2/11/2009

I moved from queens to brooklyn and shopped around for a moving company.\r Since I had bad experience with moving companies in the past, I was very skeptical and decided this time I will make sure I am taking a moving company that is reliable.\r I was reading a lot of reviews and after elimination made phone calls to get a quotes.\r I spoke with a rep in Dumbo Moving and she was nice, efficient and professional. She guided me and told me everything I need to know and made me feel very comfortable.\r I loved the idea that I got a flat rate price, and that i will not have any unpleasant surprises in my move day.\r Movers showed up on time, professional, respectful and ready to work. \r The move was flawless and I was very happy I had decided to work with Dumbo Moving and i will definitely recommend this company to everyone I know. \r more

Fabulous Movers! 10/7/2008

From the moment I called to get a price quote I knew I was in good hands with these movers. From the initial inquiry call to the efficiency of the move - these guys were really great! Danny is an excellent sales person who is knowledgeable, honest, friendly and fair! I needed to move twice - once from my apartment in Manhattan to one of their storage units and then again from the storage unit to my new place in Brooklyn. The moving crew was fantastic! Nicola, who is the head of the moving crew, was absolutely fantastic! He was friendly, helpful and even cracked a few jokes. Kudos to the rest of the crew who were so careful with all my stuff and still managed to get the job done quickly! These guys rock! Pros: the whole experience more

Very Professional 5/30/2008

These guys helped me move last year, and I can only say good things about them. They were on time, very professional and polite, very careful with my items, and extremely fast. I couldn't have asked for a better moving company. I will definitely be using them for all future moves. Pros: Reasonable pricing, professional and courteous, and very careful. more

My first experice with Dumbo Movers 5/4/2008

I have moved many times thoughout my life, city to city, state to state. Many of the moves which ended up in caos, if it wasnt an argument over a broken carelessly packed item it was an argument about a surcharge. I recently moved to the Dumbo neighborhood in brooklyn and Dumbo Moving was highly recommended to me by my a friend and her boyfriend. I was skeptical at first and was sure that i would be better off doing the move myself renting a truck. My friend Becky insisted that i call the very least. So i did, the FLATE RATE PRICE (which surprised me since i've always been charged an hourly charge) was great and fair. The move date was also flexible. Due to a family emergency i had to postpone the move for a later date, and the respresentitive was compltely understandable and ok with it. Once the move took place the movers were extremely polite! They made sure everything was secure, and packed tightly to avoid any mishaps. They took their time with the move for my piece of mind. When the relocation took place they were kind enough to help me place some furtinure in certain corners in my new apartment. As oppossed to the pervious moving compaines that i have used that tell me their job is to place it in the apartment not arrange it. Dumbo movers on the other hand actually suggested if i had a specific place in mind for my cabinet, dressers, mostly all the furniture. All i had to do was unpack my boxes. Now thats what I call true genuine service. I highly recommend Dumbo Moving, and i thank Becky for insisting. Pros: the entire experince Cons: none =-) more
