Pros: cute and fun waitresses

The food is good, the prices are great, but the service... I don't know why they're so bad. I eat there a lot, but I only go if I know I have some time to wait. They could do wo...

I would NOT recommend.... 12/7/2010

***BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR BILL! We came to Dukes with a large group of people- HUGE mistake.*** more

Bartender a WITCH & added more $ tip AFTER i signed credit 4/14/2009

The bartender was a complete witch and laughed when other patrons at the bar made racial comments about my friends. She is definitley one of those bitter old gals behind a bar who hates prettier women. Then, when my bank statement came, she added and EXTRA ten dollars to her tip that I DID not authorize- I had to call my bank to investigate and everything. To top it all of, this flabby little wench didn't even know how to make a proper drink. With teh amount of bars in NYC, there is NO NEED RTO WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS ONE! more

A little bit of America, right here in New York! 2/13/2009

In mainland America it might be an ordinary BBQ roadhouse. Ribs, hotsauce bottles, Blondes. But in New York, that's makes it a novelty. (Everybody knows America is CAMP to New Yorkers.) Thursdays was $10 Stella pitcher night. We had enough of 'em for Kaitlin, the fine Managress, to give us one on the house. The Pros: friendly staff, good BBQ, room for groups Cons: No REALLY hot sauce more

Best Spot For Sunday football! 9/16/2008

Pros: cute and fun waitresses more

Crawling critters under our table... 8/22/2008

The critters were the tip of the iceberg at this joint. The staff was unattentive, the manager was not available to listen to our complaints. The waitress said, ""what do you expect, it's summer time in NYC."" The food was fair and the experience a mess! Never again, especially the big critters crawling under our table! Pros: location Cons: Critters crawling under table.. more

This place is aweful. THe waitresses are so miserable, and they take their misery out on you!! The staff appears generally annoyed to be there, are unfriendly, slow, and not AT ALL helpful. They spend all thier time lounging around complaining to eachother. We couldn't get our waitress to come over to us for half an hour, but she was at the bar complaining with 4 other waitresses and bartenders the whole time. WHen we finally had to get up and politley ask her to take out order, she actually rolled her eyes, glared at us, looked at the other staff and laughed, before slowly stomping over to us!The food is below average, the bread was rock hard, and everything else tasted like it had been sitting out all day. Overall nothing but a purely negative experience, save yourself the annoyance of stopping in here. Cons: terrible food, HORRIBLEY MISERABLE staff, obnoxious waitresses, aweful service more

Best atmosphere in the city, really friendly staff, Great food! 6/24/2008

Went to Dukes last Friday June 20th with my boyfriend, my sister, her husband, and their 2 kids. The place was filled with great fun energy! There were all kinds of people (families, older couples, guys in suits, a table of pre bachelor party guys, a few ?girl?s night out? groups). It was like a toned down more mature Brother Jimmys and a more comfortable and friendly Wildwood. The staff was so friendly and seemed to really like their jobs. The waitress was very accommodating to the kids and made sure there food came out first. They had a special on $2.50 Bud Light pints, I ended up going for the Dukarita (Delicious!) The manager brought over balloons for the kids- they were so excited. She then brought some over to the bachelor party, it was really funny! Everyone was singing along and dancing to the fun music (Skynard, Aerosmith, Grease, Michael Jackson, Supremes, everything!) The food came in huge portions for the prices. I definitely recommend the southwest ceaser salad and I can?t stop thinking about the macaroni & cheese. We were going to go home after dinner, but instead sent my sister and the kids home and my boyfriend and I moved to the bar for a few more dukaritas. We ended up ordering dessert. The red velvet cake and fried cookie dough are to die for! We will definitely be frequenting this place and I highly recommend it to everyone! Pros: Fun friendly staff, huge portions more

My experience here at Duke's was just the worst. We went here for brunch on sunday. We ordered coffee, and the waitress, who was clearly miserable, brought our 2 coffees and about 3 tiny drops of milk. I put that in my coffee and it wasn't even noticable, plus there was nothing for my boyfriend. We flagged down the annoyed looking waitress again to ask her if she could please bring us more milk, and a spoon, when she had a chance (no silverware) She looked even more annoyed and says, ""We're out of spoons and milk. Somone went to the store to get more milk."" and walked away. We were a bit surprised, considering it was sunday brunch and they had no milk and no spoons?? Whatever, we went with it and ordered. We waited over 10 minutes with our nearly black coffees sitting in front of us, without any notice from the waitress, apologies, nothing. I could have been to the store and back by now with some milk and a spoon! Little Ms. Pleasent came by again and dropped an incredibley stale basket of mini muffins on our table, and I asked her if she happened to know how much longer the milk might be, and she rolled her eyes and simply said ""no"" I told her I'd rather have a glass of soda then please. She looked appalled, looked at my coffe and said, ""you have milk in there already. You can't just drink it like that?"" We said well it wasn't enough. And she said that it was enough! I said no, I can't, I'd just like a glass of soda instead. She said, ""well I'll bring it, but I'm charging you for the coffee too."" Um, what?? I was so confused, I said, but I didn't drink any! You have no milk and I don't like it black! She began to raise her voice and said she was still charging me for the coffee and someone would eventually be back with the milk and to just wait, and walked away. After my BF and I stared blankly at eachother in a moment of disbeliefe, we just walked out. Truly appalling experience, SO many places for brunch that don't abuse their customers out there!! Pros: none at all!!!! Cons: HORRIBLE STAFF, TERRIBLE SERVICE, STALE FOOD, NO MILK OR SPOONS!! more

This place is off the chain. seriously. 4/17/2008

I first started going to Duke's during the fall for football games, and I've been going back ever since. Duke's on 37th is consistent with the vibe of the Murray Hill Neighborhood, it's a great place for young people looking to have fun in an unpretentious environment (and settle a hangover with some greasy food). It has a very laid-back, fun environment. Great place to kick back and have some drinks and watch sports, not to mention the smoking hot waitresses don't hurt either. If you're looking for something swanky and trendy, this is not the place; but if you want to have a rowdy time with the boys, while simultaneously enjoying a staff of eye candy and comfort food, you should really check it out. (Just a tip: keep an eye out for the tan girls, Tess and Jess rock). Pros: Great service from bangin' girls, fantastic comfort food (esp. after a long night of drinking), great spot to drink and watch sports. more

Ordered the Pork sandwich and sweet potato fries. Both were very good. Not over done and just the right amount of BBQ sauce. more

Love this place, The staff is cool and always a great place to watch Yankee games. Try the buffalo tenders and the spinach dip, you can't go wrong. Pros: TV's, staff Cons: CROWDED more

Sweet Spot!! 2/22/2007

You have to love a place where food and beer work so well together. I stopped by Duke's and had the best time. The cute staff was great and the food was off the hook. I had the chicken tenders and the mac n cheese. I washed it down with a bucket of corona's, I had help of course. It's hard to find a casual restaurant that you can relax in and have a great meal and not feel like death the next day. Pros: great music & staff Cons: crowded more

bad service, blah food 2/15/2007

I went to this place for dinner on a Friday after work. The drinks (my husband was drinking a margarita) came in small glasses and were very expensive, and not very good. The service was horrible - we would have to flag down staff for drink refills. And, the food was below average. I could've gone to Friday's for a pulled pork like that. I definately don't recommend it unless you are a frat boy who doesn't care about expensive, bad food, poor service, and other annoying frat boys hanging around. Pros: location Cons: service, food, drinks, prices more

Stay away 1/21/2007

Stay away, there is not one redeeming quality about this place, went there to watch a football game, drunk, annoying patrons who were friends with the bartender, clearly over served. The owner was there and he was just as annoying, very rude to me and my friends. The crowd was the most unattractive crowd I have seen in ten years in NYC. If your into Bridge and tunnel, then this is the place for you. Cons: take your pick more

Great fun, Good food, Nice staff 1/15/2007

This place is what America is all about. I love the staff & the food. Single men, I recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for good grub & many beers, eye candy for dessert. Pros: plasmas, servers, food Cons: crowded! more

The worst service in Manhattan 12/3/2003

This place has been warned before. From my experience, the management consists of a bunch of drunken fools that have no clue how to run a restaurant properly. You are better served going anywhere. The food is OK, but the service is better down the street at Mcdonald's. Cons: wait, rude staff, arrogant more

10 Thumbs down 9/30/2003

Sitting on the corner of 3rd avenue with a nice looking outdoor dining area, Rive Gauche looks appealing. However, the interior is far from appealing. The setting is dark and old and short of staff. Service is painstakingly slow. Nobody in my party of 5 was pleased with the food (Burger-""nothing special"", Ravioli-""oily and sloppy"", Grecian Salad-""where was the shrimp? and how is it Greek?"", Chicken club-""I've made better at home"". Overall, just not worth it! Try Josie's across the street! Pros: outdoor dining Cons: food, service, indoor dining more

Prix Fixe Dinner 9/16/2003

This is a great place to sit outside, have the early bird prix fixe dinner which includes appetizer, entree and dessert. The escargot or the calamari are great for appetizers, and the desserts are great. I do prefer the outside to sitting inside though. more

friday night stroll 9/8/2003

I'm not sure why the person below was having a bad experience with wait staff as we went on a Friday after work for the pre-7pm prix fixe special (19.95) and it was really nice - our server was very attentive & friendly and the bus staff was also polite and quick. We were not left waiting for our courses and everything was very nice and rich in flavour. This was a very nice find for a casual stroll to find a place to eat, I recommend and will eat again! Pros: VALUE, prompt waitstaff, taste :9 more
