Bad Shrimp! 12/16/2008

I went to Duke's for happy hour one night to have their amazing bloody mary's. Their bloddy marys come with 2 huge shrimp on a skewer. Delicious right? Wrong. the first one i had was fine but the second drink came and the shrimp were totally bad. Sick. When i finally got the bartenders attention (he was busy watching tv) he came over and made fun of me for saying the shrimp were slimmy and smelly. And he still made be pay over $8 for it. I will never go back. And with food and service like that they should be shut down. Pros: alki Cons: atmosphere, service, price more

Duke's always a good choice 11/23/2008

Good selection of seafood. Perfect place to get lunch and then take a walk on the beach in the summer. No trip to Duke's is complete without trying their clam chowder. Not the most expensive seafood on Alki but still a bit pricey. more

Duke's Chowder House 6/19/2008

The Dukes located on Alki is one of my favorite restaurants. It is overlooking the water and has the most fabulous food and drinks. The menu choices are numerous but their seafood offerings are simply wonderful. Dukes (at any location) has always met my expections. They are a bit pricy but I would certainly recommend Dukes for a special occasion or just for a really good dining experience. Try their cucumber mojito! more

Duke's Chowder House 6/17/2008

One of several seafood restaurants along Alki Ave. Food was good, restaurant was clean and service was ok. There were some non-seafood items on the menu. After dinner, enjoy a walk along the shoreline. more

location does all the work 3/26/2008

decent but nothing to dance about. food takes so long to come out, even when fully staffed and little customers. just don't think it's worth what they charge. they are still riding on that ""popular"" wave from years and years ago. killer location though - Alki !! Pros: on Alki beach Cons: over priced, mediocre service, not family-friend at all more

Rude Waitstaff 10/22/2007

The food was ok, but not worth the 15 dollars we paid for a cheeseburger. We asked for a side of BBQ sauce, the waitress wrote it down but never brought it. When it was time to pay, the waitress claimed our money was FAKE! She says she used to work in a bank, and that it didn't feel right. Pros: Quick seating Cons: Rude waitstaff more

food and location are a good combination... 8/27/2006

...but yeah, the servers do make you feel like your a bother, even though you're not even really asking for anything but what you ordered. I'd recommend showing up early for dinner, because it can be a pain to wait, especially during summer. Pros: location, food Cons: parking, service more

Great food, below average service! 6/9/2006

We lunch there every other Friday, there's four of us in our group. We arrive shortly after opening to sit near the window or a cozy booth. I start with the great steamer clams and use the warm sourdough bread for dipping. I also enjoy the clam chowder, although a little thick, it's hearty and sticks to your ribs! Everything here is good, except the service. You will be hard pressed to get a coffee/ ice tea/ or water refill. They are very busy during the lunch hour and obviously understaffed. Smiles from the servers are rare and non existant in our case. This was the only disappointment and unfortunately after 3 lunches there, it seems to be the rule rather than the exception. I would rate the food between a 9 and 10, the serving staff in the low 1-3 range, unfortunately. It's a shame since a good server can really make the dining experience all that and more! Pros: Good seafood, good views, warm ambience Cons: Servers that treat you like an imposition rather t more

Overhyped Chowder, But A Nice Spot At Alki 8/8/2005

The outdoor dining and deck are built to enjoy the beach view and summer breeze of Puget Sound, which is the only reason I recommend this place. Check out the lunch! The prices go up (up to an additional $6) for most of the entrees at dinner time. If you check out the chowder, I recommend trying a small cup first. On both 1st & 2nd visits, the Crayfish Chowder & Original Clam Chowder was just OK and over salted. The quesadillas are also too plain. The Calamari Strips, however, were very tasty and juicy. The Dungeness Crab Stuffed Prawns are delicious; unfortunately there are only 3 prawns (for an outrageous $17 lunch, $23 dinner). The dinner prices are simply not reasonable. The service is very casual. Overall the seafood was just OK at best, but the location is Alki, and this restaurant is a fair way to enjoy it. Pros: Location, View, Ambience Cons: Salty Chowder, Expensive Dinner more

Awesome 3/6/2004

My second Duke's restuarant experience and another excellent one at that. It's an awesome place for sunset watching, sipping posh drinks, and enjoying wonderful seafood. Good date spot; call ahead though for reservations. Pros: Good value, Ambience, Location Cons: , Small, Crowded more

Scam scham... 9/3/2003

I signed up for the Dukes email club in June and got my free dinner certificates in 2 weeks. I signed up a friend and got one for a free cup of chowder. I always get spam and cannot attribute it to Dukes. I like the offers and think it is cool to get the updates on the latest happenings. The sunsets are awesome and the second floor deck is the best in Seattle! Pros: view, service Cons: crowded, parking more

Spectacular View 4/1/2003

Alki is the greatest place in the city for a Duke's reataurant. The food is great, the service is some of the best in town, and the view cannot be beat. They have a cucumber mojito now that sounds bizarre but is fantastic! I cannot wait until summer time when they expand to the second floor deck area and I can fully appreciate our only beach community taking in rays and drinking cocktails while I people watch. Pros: service, food, ambiance Cons: somewhat small more

Best food & view along Alki 12/23/2002

Service, menu, quality ingredients & preparation -all superb. Prices slightly higher than nearby competition, but well worth it. GREAT view & ambience, all year round. Pros: the view, quality ingredients more

Great Happy Hour 9/7/2002

I love going to Duke's on a warm, sunny day and sit out on their patio during their happy hour. From 3-6pm, one can enjoy any of their appetizers or drink concoctions for half price. It is also a great spot for people watching. Pros: great happy hour, service, location Cons: may get a sunburn more

Did you say chowder? 7/22/2002

Duke's is what Alki needed. Good place to hang with friends and have a good meal and a cold beer. The staff could'nt be nicer. They remember your name what you like, that goes far with me. It's a cozy atmosphere, complete with non-elevator music. Did you say chowder. The best I have ever had. Pros: cute servers, great food, nice staff Cons: servings to big, drinks to strong, beer to cold more

  • Duke s Chowder House has come a long way since 1976 when founder Duke Moscrip broke away from his partnership in Ray s Boathouse to start the original Duke s Bar and Grill. In 1989 the company opened the first Duke s Chowder House. The restaurant maintains more than five locations throughout Washington. Its famous all natural clam chowder recipe originated with Moscrip s grandfather in New England and has won countless awards, including the Seattle Chowder Cook Off three years in a row. Seven other chowders have now been introduced and other soups and chowders are continually being developed. Duke s has also won the Gills and Grills best seafood barbecue contest with its Indian salmon bake recipe. Besides chowder, the restaurant also serves vegetables, salads, seafood dishes, fish and chips, seafood tacos, pot pies, burgers and steak. Duke s Chowder House maintains a location in Seattle.
