Something different 9/28/2005

This is a great theater to go to if you are looking for something different than is offered in mainstream movie theaters. I rarely go to the movies anymore because it's just nicer to watch a movie at home. But if I do then this is the place. The independant movies shown here are often difficult to find on DVD and worth going out to see. The location isn't in the nicest area of town but who wants to stay in the 'burbs all the time? more

The Indie Bandwagon 8/18/2005

Of the three locations, I think this one is the best; the Arena one is too big, the one on Main is too far away somehow, but the Grandview is just right. An independent theater/arthouse showing indie films and also Serious Films and sponsoring the occasional festival and odd cheap matinee. They force their employees to do ticket draws for prizes before certain shows, which is kind of embarassing, plus I've never won anything, and the seats can be squeaky, hard, and hair-trigger, but for the most part going to a movie here is like settling into a familiar hug; bony in parts but beloved and always genuine; even if the movie is stupid it's fun to go. more

Great Independent Theatre 8/16/2005

Drexel theatre is a great theatre that plays independent movies. I recently saw March of the Penguins and I had a great time. The theatre is so cozy and friendly, something not found tooo much at mainstream theaters. At a great Price and great Movie choice. I highly recommend them to anyone. more

Great Independent Films 8/16/2005

The Drexel in Grandview is a great place to see films that aren't going to be shown at AMC or Marcus chains. Don't expect stadium seating or a full bar / restaurant like the Arena Grand. While it doesn't have those amenities it still is a great place to see a movie and you aren't likely to see the movies they show anywhere else in Columbus. Parking in the general area isn't much of a problem with the exception of Friday/Saturday nites, but if you poke around a bit you'll find something. more

neat titles 8/13/2005

this is the place to go if you are looking to see a movie that wont be played all over the big chains and nationwide. ALways a good movie in a classic theatre with great style. you can keep up with the artsy titles that your friends in larger cities will be familiar with rather than just the mainstream hollywood stuff thats out there. I have been really surprised at how many good movies i have seen at this place when i didnt think i would ever like them going in. worth the trip indeed. more

Good variety in these theatres 7/29/2005

The Arena Grande is a good theater to go to if you want to see a well-known movie, with the occasional indie festivals thrown in. The option of the balcony seating for really spectacular movies is a good investment and a lot of fun. The Drexel Bexley is the best theater to go to to get independent films. It is a small theater, with only three screens, but the Radio Cafe is directly connected to it, so you can get coffee and good food with your movie. The best bet if you're a hardcore indie fan. The Drexel Grandview is a very small, one screen building. Also good for indie films, but you're a lot less likely to catch on there because of the limited space. Not horrible, but not the most pleasing movie-going experience of the three. Overall, I'd recommend Arena Grande and Drexel Bexley for any type of movie genre that you might enjoy. more

Funky fun movies! 6/24/2005

Columbus' original art house movie place. It's locally owned, and they also own the drexel in Bexley, and the Arena Grand in the Nationwide arena district. You can expect the coolest, small budget and indie movies, in a really nice environment. This is where you go to see the movies the Oscars are given to, and where you go to see movies that make you think! more
