Save yourselves and your hair! 12/7/2008

I went in to get my shoulder length straight hair cut and inch or two. Sounds easy....not for this salon. When I was done I had a ton of choppy layers around the crown of my head. I had asked for it to be all one length!!! The stylist next to us saw the haircut and turned to me and said "I just can't let you leave looking like that." They said that the cut would be no charge, but I would pay a significant amount of money to have the haircut I asked for. They tried to fix it, but I ended up with a very short more

STAY AWAY--Take your hair, and your business elsewhere 1/21/2008

I live in the neighborhood and I thought I would give this place a try--what a mistake. I asked for a very simple style--a classic bob, one that every hairstylist is expected to know how to do. The woman who cut my hair was extremely inexperienced, and one side was actually longer than another. The stylist also completely botched my bangs. I asked if another hairstylist could fix my bangs and the manager refused. I tried repeatedly to speak to the owner and was also rebuffed by various other employees. All in all, the hairstylist's and the management's attitude was one of not caring--they just wanted me out of there. One thing is for sure--I will never set foot in DRAMATICS nyc again. more

Competent and easy 3/10/2006

Dramatics is a hit or miss experience. The quality of your cut will always depend on who is doing your work. This is a chain, and my own experience has been that I get the consistently best cuts at the on on 5th and 16th. The prices are right, the atmosphere is pretty neutral as far as salons go (which is more than fine by me, I hate the salon environment), and I've never had a hair disaster there by any means (and I have elsewhere, often at more expensive salons). The place tries to be edgy, and even once was -- in the 80s. Just ignore that and go. It's a perfect place to get your hair cut if you know what you want and dread the process. more

Great price 11/9/2005

As far as trendy Manhattan salons go, this one is as good as the others, but the prices aren't nearly as high. Where else can you go for $40 hair cut (not including tip) and highlights starting around $80? And they do an amazing job. They do take walkins, but book up, so I'd recommend making an appt. They have a few different locations around the city - in midtown and uptown. more

Really decent salon 9/18/2005

Dramatics NYC is really a nice hair salor. I have gone here on and off for the last year and my hair really is so much better than ever. I usually stick to my stylist Yuki - excellent and she takes her time to make sure she does a great and thorough cut. However, all the people there are friendly from the welcome desk to the people who was your hair. Their prices are reasonable by New York City standards and it really is a place to visit if you are looking to keep up your hair with a reasonable budget. more

Good on the whole 9/17/2005

I will agree more with the second reviewer here than the first. I find Dramatics NYC just fine. I have gone here on and off for 6 years. The stylists are friendly and competent - they always smile, introduce themselves by name, and make the RIGHT amount of chit chat (not so much that it's tiresome, but not so little that it's awkwardly unfriendly). Perhaps my haircuts aren't that complicated, but they have never done a bad job on me. The prices are reasonable. It's a solid "staple" salon in my local repetoire. more

Dramatics NYC -- not impressed 9/3/2005

I went to Dramatics NYC once and would not go back again. I went there for a reasonably priced cut and color. Although I liked my stylist and felt she did a good job -- she was not up front about the cost. She told me upfront how much the cut and color would cost -- but then made decisions to add treatments to my hair without telling me the cost. The final total ended up being almost twice what I was initially quoted. I argued with them and they did end up taking some money off the bill . . . but it was a lot of trouble. If I wanted to pay top dollar -- I would have gone to a top salon. more

Trendy hair salon 8/5/2005

Trendy neighborhood hair styling in this upbeat upper east side salon. Prices are reasonable. I have sent my son's girlfriend from out of town for styling for the prom and she was very satisfied. They take their time and do a great job. Staff are friendly and helpful not snobby like some in the area. more
