Thirteen Years of Great Care 2/7/2012

Very happy with the care my 13 year old dog has received from getting her at 5 weeks old. The staff has always been pleasant and understanding of our needs. She was diagnosed (by physical exam, x-ray, lab) five years ago with enlarged heart and put on medication. With early treatment she has been taking her medication regulary and walks alot. We went on a 2 mile walk today. That is a lot for a normal 15 lb dog but she is able to do a lot even with the heart problem. Last year she went blind and after being examined by Dr. McCumpsey and given medicaion for the eyes, we were referred to Dr. King, eye specialist at emergency hospital in Marietta. She now has full vision in one eye thanks to their early intervention. She has allergies and they handle those as we need care. She has been boarded at the facility and the ladies that take care of her are great! We also get her groomed at the facility. Last week, they worked us in on a Saturday morning, as my dog seemed to be having some quivering, etc. Dr. Porter felt she had infection from her teeth and that antibiotics and teeth cleaning were needed. We scheduled the cleaning for the next week. I was worried since the heart condition had prevented us from doing this earlier. But, we had no choice now. Dr. Porter only used gas and not all the sedation medications for the anethesia. They observed my dog all dog after teeth cleaning. My dog was so happy when I picked her up, acting like a puppy. By 7pm she was so hungry I fed her a regular meal and no nausea. She chews much better and is over all the symptoms. So, I am very familiar with many things they do.I have seen all the doctors at some point and feel they are all caring about our feelings. Dr. McCumpsey is her regular doctor. I thank Dr. Lukert and his staff for all the care we have received throughout these 13 years. more

I can't say enough good things about this vet!\r The first time we went to this vet, we took my very first kitten, Howard, for his first checkup when I was three years old. My parents, always working on a budget, were always treated with great kindness. \r I remember once when Howie returned home from doing lord knows what one day (we was an indoor and outdoor kitty), he was missing half of his tail. We'll never really know what happend, but my mother went crying to the vet saying ""until payday all we have to our names is $50 and my husband says that if it is going to cost more than $50 we'll have to put Howie down"". My mother was beside herself with grief. The vet said ""what a coincidence, this proceedure costs exactly $50 [wink wink]"". I was thrilled, being only 6 years old at the time, to see Howie return home in almost one piece from his encounter. He was forever, the half tail kitty after his amputation. On countless ocassions, this vet has saved Howie from snake bites and other mysterious injuries. After Howard passed, (from cancer we decided not to treat), we have taken all of our pets to this doctor's office.\r Since then, all of my pets have been indoor pets (less of a headache), and they have all been pations of DVH. Half Pint, Dusty, Waffle, Biscut, and our only dog Josephine. \r Not all at the same time of course. \r The best story we have is of Waffle. My fiance and I rescued Waffle from the pound half dead. We had little hope that he would survive, but with DVH's help, he made it through healthy as a horse. He had every type of pesticite living on and in him you could imagine. \r Unfortunately, Waffle escaped from home one day and didn't make it but a foot from the driveway. He was only seven months old at the time. \r Now my husband and I have two pets, Biscut the cat and Josephine (Josie) the Papillion dog. \r \r We have only ever ventured away from DVH on two ocassions. When Waffle needed to be neutered, we went to the discout vet in a van place the pound recommended ($45), they botched the surgery. A portion of his insides was healing outside of the wound. Instead of carging us for the full on surgery to fix him which would have cost $150, DVH charged us for a neuter $50. \r On the second occasion, we wanted to save some money on Biscuit's declawing. Douglas Oaks Animal Hospital drew us in with a low price, but once we were in the door, the price ballooned to over $500 (instead of the original $190 they had quoted). So we bailed him out of that Hell hole and took him back to DVH. They took great care of him during this time. They quoted us $300 and guess what, when we walked out it was $300!! No extra charges!! And boy did Biscuit get to love those vials of opiates. : ) lol. more
